Your best bet is to keep watching ebay. I picked up an Eastern inaugural about 6 months after the 7 day cruise started and at that point the price started coming down. I think I paid about $25 for mine including the shipping. Oops! DH is reading over my shoulder and just clued in on this habit! He is threatening to sell my pin collection to pay for our next cruise!
Can't help with the pin, but I have an interesting tale of inaugural Eastern Caribbean cruise pins. We were on that inaugural sailing and I purchased MANY of the limited edition pins. I hoped to recoup my money on ebay and perhaps pay for part of our cruise. I was sorely mistaken. DCL made 4000 of those inaugural Eastern cruise pins. When I walked off the ship, I had 1% of them. 40 pins at $12 each. You do the math. Well, I sold a few on ebay, but soon realized that I was upsetting the pin collectors of the world and my pin "karma" was at an all time low. So I put the pins away for a while and my dear wife never once reminded me of my promise to unload the pins quickly.
Fast forward to July 4th of this year. I was on the monorail from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot when someone noticed the cruise pin on my camera bag. She offered to trade a Magic Kingdom 4th of July pin for the cruise pin. I made the trade. When I got home, I realized that my cache of 40 pins was down to ONE!!! I had finally managed to trade away all of my pins.
I heard that DCL was selling those Eastern Caribbean pins for half price on the cruises in the months that followed August 2000. They learned their lesson and made a LOT fewer of the inaugural Western cruise pins. I'm sorry that you weren't able to get your pin. You can always try www.pinpics.com to see if you can find someone who has the pin for trade.
we did have a bunch but did sell them on ebay for $130 and $125.00 and the artist choice donald as well made enough to pay for the deposit for next 7 day cruise for 2 people......
we just kept one of each for us...was right after cruise they where real hot... peter
