Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I hope there are spots avail as well. I have planned on doing this race since they announced it. Room booked, dining reservations made etc. and just today I remembered I forgot to actually register. :lmao: what a dork I am :rolleyes1
Good Luck to anyone else who is still looking to register. To those who are in, please send some pixie dust our way.

Thanks for the birthday wishes!!!!

Good thing I did my long run yesterday as I don't think I want to run this morning after "celebrating" last night!!!

This morning, 3500 people ran the Queens Marathon here in NYC with a starting temp of 86, 63% humidity. :scared1:

I really, really hope Wne & Dine is cooler than that!

I sure hope the humidity breaks, running has been a chore to say the least. I am struggling getting in 4 miles lately. I've gone 4 miles running and 1/2 mile with the warm-up / cool-down but that is about it.

I can go farther walking but I'd like to be able to run the first 6 miles at least before I do any walking.....

I did RFTT last year and I remember it being hot when I finished but I don't remember it being hot when I started so go figure. Maybe it was just nerves and anxious to start...

Hope everyone else's training is going better than mine!

Crappiest thing is we are flying Allegiant and were scheduled to leave out of Orlando at 6:30pm on Sunday, yeah, not anymore... Received an email stating that our flight now leaves at 10something in the morning. So much for sleeping Saturday night ;)

Mandy,

I also doing the race. Annette is either volunteering or waiting from me. Is the entire family coming for the race or just you? We get off the Magic the morning of the race. Cant wait to see how i do. The humidity is terrible here but i got a full 12 in this morning.

This is my first 1/2 marathon and I'm just up to 4 miles (using Hal Higdon's training schedule). I SO don't know what I'm doing nutrition-wise, but I'm working on it. My question is about the "goo" that people seem to use on longer runs. I read in a TR for someone running the 1/2 during marathon weekend that they were passing out "goo" at various points in the race. Can y'all confirm that? If so, do you remember the type/brand? Any other tips for what to consume before/during a big run?

HI!! How exciting! It'll be nice to see you all again... There are a couple of events I want to try before the Wine & Dine you may be interested in...

Metro Cruise 5K and 10K in GR, (medals for all) and there is an 8 mile on Mackinac Island in September (medals for all on that one too). As far as I can see, no pace requirements either. Let me know if you'd like links.

My mom is coming and she is going to watch the kids while we do the race. It'll be fun. We are coming in on the 30th and leaving on Sunday morning - bright and early.

10 weeks from now the race will be in the history books! How's everyone's training going?

I am having to wake up at around 530 am...even when the sun goes down its too hot to run around here :scared1: I really hope I can kick into gear soon. How has your training been??

I have my last 5k tomorrow...well as part of this series. The series goes around a local neighborhood, you run the same course each monday for 3 weeks in a row. Well when I signed up I thought how nice, a family race, in a local neighborhood, nothing crazy. Boy was I WRONG :sad2: A majority of these people are part of a marathon training team and are using it to build their speed up!! So needless to say I have been in the last group each time..my co worker does it with me but shes a lot faster...and when I said "What if I come in last" she replied "Well someone has to" :rotfl: great!!!

5:30! You're awesome. I reluctantly choose evening heat over waking up early.

I'm doing well... just bought a new pair of running shoes that I'm eager to try out tonight. My LR is up to 8 miles, running 22 miles this week, so I think that's a good ratio. I have races lined up for 8/8, 8/21, 9/11 and 9/26, and contemplating a race on 8/22. I may ditch the 8/21 (a VERY hilly steep 5k) for the 8/22 (a hilly but not too bad 10 miler). The 9/26 race is a 1 miler, LOL.

Looking forward to being in Orlando!

I went the other way and run after the sun goes down. No way I will get up early enough to get a run in before work. A couple of nights I've gone out around 11 or midnight. I'm trying to peak in January for the full so my miles aren't as high yet as they normally would be for a fall run but they are getting there. I should be up in the 30 mile per week range the first week in August.

As for the race, even if you come in last you beat everyone that didn't start so don't worry about it.

Does anyone know when we find out our corrals? Is it really when we get to the Expo?

It is usually when you get your waivers which, if I remember, is a week or week and a half before the run.

As for the opening of more registrations, no one outside of Disney Sports probably knows. If there were official charity groups it would be a safe bet that they would release their unused spots but since I don't see any that option is out. Being an inaugural event we also can't look at previous years for a precedent.

I don't know about this race, but during the half marathon in January, they passed out Clif Shots at about the 7 or 8 mile mark.

I think that as far as what to eat before a race goes, it's different for everyone. For me, if the race is in the morning, I have a cup of coffee, half an English muffin with peanut butter, and sometimes a banana. I know other people who say if they ate a banana before the run, they would be sick as a dog! You just have to experiment and see what works for you.
That being said, I still haven't figured out what to eat before a nighttime run!

I think I'd go to the doctor and get an inhaler, or maybe do the treadmill if it's bothering you this much. I have trouble with cold air. I can usually make it through a run, but then I will cough for an hour and get a rash all over my legs. I solved this by running on the treadmill when it's really cold, but since we're doing longer runs now, I might end up talking to my doctor about it this winter. It's probably going to be humid during the wine and dine, so maybe having an inhaler just in case would be a good thing.:goodvibes Hang in there.

IL'm definitely going to have to go and talk to my doctor. I'm having way too many difficulties just walking around this summer. The humidity is just awful. I'd do the treadmill at my gym, but I suffer from an awful case of treadmill phobia. (Is there an official name for that? :rotfl: ). I fell off one a year or two ago. I've tried desperately to overcome it, but I can't go any faster than a semi-fast walk on it. Any faster than that and I start to really lose it a bit. It doesn't help that I really don't even like walking on it. I can walk faster on the streets, and for me it's easier.

For the last 5 years the temperature and humidity on 10/2 at 9:00pm (or the closest time available) has been:

2009: 73.4 with 65% humidity at 8:50pm
2008: 73.4 with 69% humidity at 8:50pm
2007: 78.8 with 89% humidity at 8:50pm
2006: 78.8 with 65% humidity at 8:45pm
2005: 77.0 with 89% humidity at 8:46pm

I was in Disney that day back in 2007. I remember the humidity being horrendous. It also rained constantly that trip. It wouldn't hurt to go out in the rain if beforehand if the oppourtunity arises. You never know.

Hello. Is there any workout facility near you that has an INDOOR running track? I've used that from time to time because I don't care for treadmills either.

Happy Birthday: - donmil723

CaptVMB - My DH John and I both only walk so do not worry. I am doing the first part and he is doing the second half. We felt that would be the best to get into the race. We are doing 1/2 and he is also doing a full in Jan. Again all walking

jeanigor - we will be with you

I guess no walking today. The tropical storm is not weather to walk in
Have a great weekend to all

Kathy

Great to know! I might be right there with you!! Thanks Kathy!

Unfortunately no, I wish there was. I keep trying to run on the treadmills, but I just can't. My nieces find it really funny.

I still haven't figured out what to eat before a nighttime run!

I did the last ToT, which was at night, and I ate a chicken sandwhich around 3 PM, if I remember correctly, and spent the remainder of the day by the pool. I also had a beer with it, which might be a no-no to some, but I drank a lot of water the reat of the day also, and had no problems during the race.

It was also warmer than I expected, I was totally soaked in sweat at the end.

Is there a bus running between Epcot and the start after the race/party is over? Where do people park that are staying offsite?
