Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

A taxi would certainly be easier from SSR to the start, as you wouldn't have to wait for the boat and then the bus.

So true, especially if you're pressed for time as going back and forth on the boat and taking the bus will probably take an hour and halfish. That would probably be like an $8-10 taxi ride? (I've never taken a taxi just read trip reports of other people who have and that seems to be about average to get around WDW).

Thanks for the advice! I'm so used to utilizing the Disney transportation my mind didn't even go the taxi route.

There will be 3 of us so how much could it really be!

I've never used a taxi before at Disney - would I have to call one or will there be some hanging out around the resort?

There's usually a taxi or two hanging out at the resort in a hidden area... however, if a lot of people have the same idea, there might be a wait.

Wow all this transportation talk makes me think they need to add Disney World on HopStop.com.

I've taken cabs to get around Disney. It was about $10 ish or so. I don't remember exactly, but I would definitely try to make the transportation as easy as possible. No one needs added stress before the event.

We are planning to drive from OKW to PO and take the bus. I figure that it is better having a short drive from PO back to OKW than the longer drive from EPCOT to PO, especially at 3:00AM.

I'm not sure how long we're going to stay at the party, since we have an 8am Cape May ADR. :lovestruc Maybe we'll stay to the end, walk to BWI and watch the sun come up. I'll sleep on the plane.

Ha,ha....that's probably what I would do......not a bad idea actually! Don't they have those nice lounge chairs on the beach by the Beach and Yacht Resorts? ;)

My luck we would get a room way at the south side of OKW, so it would be the furthest walk to POR.

Not a problem....use the internal shuttle (or any park bus) during the day as Miller's Road is usually the last stop before Hospitality House. At night, if you can get to the HH, the porters work 24/7 and they can give you a lift on their little transport. My husband once had a super delayed flight and ended up getting in around 2am. They brought him right up to the door of our room even though he had no luggage.

How's everyone doing mileage-wise? I'm at 23 mpw, headed to a peak of 31 before Wine & Dine.

I am still only at around 12 to 16 mpw...I need to start getting in long runs on the weekend...because so far I have only been able to get in 4 miles as my longest run lately...I get so bored and it takes forever since Im slow :rotfl:

After the race party there are alot of taxi's waiting so getting home should not be a problem.

I'm currently at 17 min miles for 12 miles but hope to get alot better. I'm also trying to lose more weight before then.

Shannon84- try seeing the places you will run past during the race on your walk. I know at this mile number i should see this so it helps with the long runs.

I'm sure i will be one of the last people crossing the finish line but as my mother always tell me at least i started alot of people dont have the courage to do it.

Happy running.

Amanda

If you can run 12 miles, a race setting will speed you up to less than 16 pace for 13, not a problem.

Before this week, I was averaging around 5 mpw. This week's mileage will be about 16. I am doing a half-marathon in 6 weeks. I better get crackin'. :rolleyes1

Amanda, don't worry about being in the back of the pack. There will be several of us back there. Will you be wearing a WISH shirt by chance?

If it makes anybody feel better, I'm presently at 0 miles per week! Three of my kids are getting married within 5 months, so I've been busy! I also experienced a minor knee injury a few months ago and I've been holding off training because I don't want to be hobbling at the weddings. I'm only doing the 5-mile portion of the relay and I have lots of previous events under my belt, so I am not stressing. It's Disney, so it's all about fun. Besides, I'll just let my teammate pick up my slack! :lmao:

I'm somewhere between 15-20 mpw. This week, I missed a 4.5 mile run due to a crushing headache one night and work travel two other nights, so this week will likely only be a 13 mile week. Next week, I'm up for 18 though.

Congrats on the weddings!

Just make sure your pace is okay for the 4.8. If you're not well under the 16 min/mile, they may not let your teammate run.
