Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I imagine many of the shops in the pavilions will be open, Disney won't turn down a chance to sell you something. I cold see the pavilions with movies not showing them but would imagine Maelstrom will be running. If you consider there are only two real "rides" and the one in Mexico kind of sucks I think it is a safe bet.

Of course if it is hot I will be hoping Mexico is opened so I can go in and cool off (and maybe take a dip in the fountain).

Yeah... I'm so used to the New York races where we run through hoses every mile... don't know what I'm gonna do without them. Fountain sounds good.

(and maybe take a dip in the fountain).

Now that would be interesting.

The boat ride is awful but last time I was standing there trying to finish a beer before we got on the ride and the CM's waved us over to get on the ride. It is a lot less suck-y with a good beer.

I'm really going to try and take advantage of the after party. The last few races I've done I've just left as soon as I cool down, don't eat any of their food or drinks, don't wait for announcements, nothing. I started thinking that I could at least stay to congratulate the winners as I felt a twinge of guilt for just leaving after. I wonder if the Norway bakery will be open for me to load up on sweet almond pretzels :).

I've never stayed at disney before (live somewhat close) but was trying to due to the late race. I had no idea what a hassle it would be with the reservation people! When I finally got ahold of someone they said that if I booked using the AAA rate that we would not be able to use any of the Disney transportation. Anyone have more information about that? From what I've heard on here no one is checking anything when you get on the buses, but I wanted to check first.

I've never heard that you are excluded from transportation because you booked with any discount, AAA or otherwise. As long as you are staying at one of the host hotels you can use the marathon transportation busing. Even if they did check room keys they don't list the rate you got or the discount you used on your key.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't recall the last time I rode it sober...it was still Rio del Tiempo...but SOOOOOO much better whilst enjoying adult beverages. Even better with a group of friends, with said drinks.

I absolutely agree with this. I can't remember the last time I got on this ride without having a margarita first. It used to induce the singing along with that catchy la la song they used to have. Now with the three amigos it's a little bit better but you can't sing along.

I'll be truly disappointed post race if I can't enjoy all that Mexico has to offer (translation - 4 flavors of frozen margaritas).

What time is the after party over? I am worried that I will not make it in time:sad2:

I will need to assign one of you to hold on to my sip and taste.

The party ends at 3am, I believe. If you're doing a 16 min/mile, which is the absolute slowest they'll allow, you'll get to the party in plenty of time.

Ok good to know! I am SLOW!! I am worried about getting picked up but I refuse to let it happen!!

This is my first big race ever...is there usually a slow group at the end...I am just nervous and envision myself being the only one in the rear. Right now I am running for three minutes/walking for two but the longer my runs get I find my walking periods getting longer also. I fear that I will walk half of the race...

I think there are people who walk the whole race! Don't worry, just keep training. Worrying takes up too much energy!

I'll be right there with you. I am certainly not speedy at all. We can arrive fashionably late together.:thumbsup2

For the last 5 years the temperature and humidity on 10/2 at 9:00pm (or the closest time available) has been:

2009: 73.4 with 65% humidity at 8:50pm
2008: 73.4 with 69% humidity at 8:50pm
2007: 78.8 with 89% humidity at 8:50pm
2006: 78.8 with 65% humidity at 8:45pm
2005: 77.0 with 89% humidity at 8:46pm

That's not too bad. Better than 90 with a high humidity percentage.

Of course, I say that though after the hills, heat, and humidity + turning 50 today, made my 8 miler today seem pretty tough. Time was consistent with my long run last week though.

Yeah, at least we are trending the the right way :thumbsup2

It really does make a difference not having the sun beating on you too. The exact same temp and humidity after the sun sets really feels much better.

I so totally agree with that, which is why I'm very excited for a night race.

Happy Birthday, donmil723!

To anyone who didn't get to register: Apparently there may be slots opening in the next two weeks. Keep your eyes peeled.

Happy Birthday: - donmil723

CaptVMB - My DH John and I both only walk so do not worry. I am doing the first part and he is doing the second half. We felt that would be the best to get into the race. We are doing 1/2 and he is also doing a full in Jan. Again all walking

jeanigor - we will be with you

I guess no walking today. The tropical storm is not weather to walk in
Have a great weekend to all

Kathy
