Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Haha now that would be some great race weather!! I was hoping for sunny skies the week leading up to the race, because we will be down there vacationing at WDW, but it looks like "isolated thunderstorms" every day (which I guess should be expected in Orlando)..race day isnt updated on the weather report I peeked at because it is too far out.

It can as sunny as it wants that week but some clouds would be nice during the day on Saturday.

I lived in FL for 2 years (June 2003 through June 2004) and even though the forecast was a chance of rain every day it didn't rain nearly as much in October as it did in September. Being so early in October makes it a little more questionable but both years I was down there the every day rain stopped around the middle of September.

Haha I agree...I would love for it to be sunny all week for vacation and then nice and cool and overcast race day :thumbsup2

Has anyone had their family members/race companions sign up for the ChEAR squad? I was thinking of doing it for DH & DD, but with the party map out now and the ability to track runners and have updates sent to cell phones, I think I might save the $100 and plan to meet in Canada. (I am NOT carrying anything heavier than my iPod while I'm running, and that includes my cell phone.)

Thoughts?

Question for all of you - DH and I planned to run with our ipods - the music really helps us keep our pace. This is our first 1/2 and my first race. When looking at the race website, it said that although you can wear head phones it discourages the use of them so you can hear race messages. What do you guys do - music or no music? Does WDW have music and entertainment along the way? Off to go do my last longer run. Thanks for your advice.:goodvibes

so to headphones, or not to headphones.....
Thats how I have trained...when walking...normally it takes me to get over the 2-3 mile mark, then I seem to be in "my rhythm"....however, with everything I have read it appears the excitement and needing to hear others behind you say..."on the right..." etc...I should not be wearing them.
So I am thinking at this point, at least having them around my neck, and saving them for when I really think I will need a jolt of energy from my music around miles 6-8...which according to the course map, I will personally need it!
I have had the mind set until now that I need my music to keep me going to cross the finish line, but at the same time, I dont want to block everything out and miss the experience of the race.....

I had my mp3 player with me for the princess half and didn't even think of turning it on.. I was so busy with all the people watching that my headphones were around my neck the whole time!

Well that's just fabulous. They put my shirt size as an XL when I requested an XS... GRRR.... I guess I'll bring my Active.com receipt with me because I do not want an XL shirt. Is there something that I can do about this prior??

I have volunteered for a few of the race expos and it was not a problem at all when people wanted to exchange shirt sizes. We were required to hand out the size listed on the paper, but then there was a table where you could switch.

Shannon - Love the shirt! I'm making my own too. Lime green of course, WISH on the front, not 100% decided on the back yet.

Frank- looking for your opinion and/or knowledge--are the bib #s associated with corrals? Since you're 64 (I think you said), & quite fast, do you think you're 64 because you're fast or because you signed up early (if you did, that is).:confused3

The only year we even considered the ChEAR Squad for my wife was when she had back surgery 3-4 weeks before the marathon. But even with that it did not seem like a remotely decent deal. For this race to even USE the finish line portion of the squad you must purcahse the post-race party tix, also.

NO The bibs and Corrals are assigned by estimated times for the half and full races.... Frank is FAST!. In shorter races where you line up on your honor such as the TOT and 5k's it was based on date of entry.

I'm pretty certain the number is based on estimated finish time and not when I registered. In the Rock N Roll races I have done the numbers correspond directly to the corral (1000-1999 in corral 1, 3000-3999 in corral 2, 18000-18999 in corral 18 and so on) but I assume it will not be quite as 1:1 in Disney because they will have more people per corral.

I put my estimated finish time at 1:27 and had proof of time that supported it which is why I probably got such a low number. As Charles stated in most races with wave starts or corrals the numbers for pre-registered runners are done by estimated time because they correspond to the corrals. It makes it easier for the course marshals to see if you are entering the right one. In the small local races the numbers are either done by registration date or alphabetically since the numbers really don't matter for anything other then a means of differentiating people. In those races they can determine your number with a random number generator and it really wouldn't matter.

:worship:I can only dream of being that fast! :goodvibes

That is awesome. I am hoping to come in under 1:40. I cannot imagine getting below 1:30.

The shirt I made is green with a lime green turtle who has mickey ears on and it says "slow and steady finishes the race" and the back says DISboards Shannon84 so please say hi if you see me

I finally got my race shirt silk screened. My relay partner (two-foxes) will be matching as well.
Here it is...

Actually, not overcast on race night... cloud cover would retain the heat of the day.

Speaking of weather, Accuweather seems to be continuing to forecast a low Saturday night in the mid to low 60's. Even with that, we will be lucky to have temps below 70-72 at race start.

That really stinks. My parents have done this before - said they'd watch out kids, and then forgotten and planned a vacation! Thank goodness my in-laws are better. My mother-in-law asked me about 4 times when we were going though, and I finally had to insist she just mark it on her calendar! I understand your anxiety about them missing things, but if you and your DH have trained for this, then let the kids miss a couple of days. You're setting a great example of making your health a priority for them!:goodvibes

Thanks...I have always stressed to the kids that if thy work hard and put their mind to it, they can achieve anything. They see how hard Mom & Dad have been working for it -- whenever I come back from a run my daughter asks right away, "how many miles?" But I'm not going to worry about it anymore and focus on the week ahead before we leave...

Here's a newbie question...can we pin a small photo to our shirts for inspiration?

Absolutely. Whether it is losing weight, finishing a marathon, going to college, or anything else I think human beings can do anything they put their minds to (and are willing to dedicate the time to). We did, after all, invent Algebra, put a man on the moon, and harness the power of the atom. Compared to those things the former doesn't seem all that daunting.

Here's a newbie question...can we pin a small photo to our shirts for inspiration?

Yep. In fact it isn't all that uncommon, especially at events around a specific illness or charity like Race for the Cure.

Thanks for the replies...It may sound silly but I have a picture of my dog who passed away shortly after I began my training (a beautiful Siberian husky named Miss Fitt Katie Scarlett, Scarlett for short) So you can probably guess where I got my Dis name from. I have always felt that she has been with me on this journey and I would like to honor her memory.

Not silly at all! In fact, gave me goosebumps...
