Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I'm super behind on training. DH and I just got back from at week at WDW this past weekend, and I've been telling myself all summer i'd get serious about training once we got back. I looked at the calendar and realized I leave 7 weeks from tomorrow for the race! I'm thankful i'm just running the longer leg of the relay! I ran 6 miles on the treadmill today, and will hopefully get out for a decent run this weekend. I'm thinking about adding a mile to my long run each week until I get up to 9 miles, then taper from there. That would start my tapering during the 2nd week of September. Does that seem too soon?

We leave 7 weeks from tomorrow, too :-)

I'm running the Philly RnR on 9/19, so I'll taper from there, I guess. There's no need to taper more than a week or two for a half. If you're doing the relay, there's no need to taper at all.

YAAAAAAY!!! I just registered for the half marathon after getting my waitlist status accepted! I've already been training so I'm going to be ready for that weekend. :thumbsup2 See you all at the starting line :goodvibes:cool1::banana:

I remember a brief discussion about hydration packs (several pages back). Can I get some recommendations on a decent (hopefully $50 or less) hydration pack for a 25 y/o female who "runs" 5 to 6 miles routinely (as part of her work-out), but has never run a race or marathon before? She wants to get something as soon as possible for her training; not sure if a backpack or waist pack would be better. :confused3 I know there are many dedicated runners on this thread. What would you suggest?

TIA. :goodvibes

I haven't looked at any responses yet, just stopped at your post. I just bought the Nathan Speed 2 and I really like it, have had it aobut a week. I have been running about 5 miles lately and it has done me quite well. I bought mine for $26 something through runningwarehouse.com and then you can click on the link through facebook or another code that was mentioned in here for 15% off plus free 2nd day air.

Try some different ones on at the store and then order what you like online, that is what I did.

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm passing this information to my daughter. :thumbsup2

Started my new job (with the state here in VA) and it has been difficult adjusting to a new schedule, I am just exhausted!! But I have to get my butt out there...I am really starting to get SCARED :scared1: for this half!!

I need to find some comfy dress shoes (women out there can help me haha) because the stress fracture in my big toe area is starting to act up now :headache:

Haven't been on the Boards since the Princess, but I just rec'd the email today that the WL came through for the W& D and of course there isn't a DVC room to be had, nor a room at one of the host resorts for a reasonable price! On top of the fact that I'm rehabbing a shin injury & am way behind! Should I even bother?!

Is there anyone out there in the Gloucester Twp, NJ area who wants to train? Holy cow, now I need a travel partner or I just can't justify the cost.

And, has anyone used compression sleeves? A friend recommended them so I'm considering it..

Thanks!

donmil723 - So sorry to hear about your accident..but glad that you seem to be keeping positive spirits :thumbsup2

On a much lighter note I finally ran at my gym this morning, because it was just TOO hot out to run today...well apparently my gym track switches directions every other day (which is new) and I did not realize until I was running the opposite direction :rotfl: whoops! Still got in 4 miles though.

Starting a new job next week...very nervous and its going to be hard to have an earlier schedule to get used to :surfweb: but I will make time to train and be on the disboards lol

Too funny! I did that at my gym once too. (Bally's) Boy, were people annoyed with me!

I had a long run of 8 1/2 miles yesterday and felt REALLY good after it (took a little less than an hour and a half) -- I'm becoming confident that I can do this now!

I was just wondering, for those who have run at Disney before, what is it like at the finish line? I'm just wondering how I will find the rest of those in my party...do people have a designated meeting place or do they just carry cell phones? Just some newbie questions!

At the Princess, once you went to baggage claim, you couldn't get back into the finish line area & the area to meet people was much bigger & more difficult to connect. There is typically a food station right after the finish, so I found that to be a good place to meet, or near the photo area.

NO DVC ROOMS AT ALL??? Not even at SSR? WOW! Gosh it sure is going to be busy that weekend... I guess I better not count on my waitlist coming through :faint:

Only a 1 br @ SSR--that's it! Too many points for me to justify that when I'm the only one staying in it! Good luck w/ the WL!

I live in Charleston, SC and I work as the captain of a charter boat here in our harbor and everyday I get the question "What happens if it rains?" from all my passengers!!!

but here I go...What happens if it rains?

Check out posts from last year's marathon weekend--the coldest weekend in Florida history. I was there. It was 20 degrees, freezing rain, sleet & snow. The race went on....but there were lots of medic busses!

No real need to taper. Just build up to a distance you are comfortable with... run a half distance recovery type run the week before the race. I am actually running 17 miles the weekend before and using the W&D as a recovery run.

Is the SF healed? I would not push too quickly f you are still within the docotr's rehab window.

For all other procrastinators...... This IS the weekend you must start training! you just have enough time to get in the miles for the race. Get out the door Saturday..... Check in once you are back home

When I booked at the beginning of June there was super limited availability at all the DVC resorts, and the only studios were SSR and OKW.

Could you book at one of the Values or Mod's then just take a taxi back to your resort after the party? You could always use the buses to get to a host resort to catch a bus before the race...

Great idea on both counts! Problem is, I'm having a hard time justifying $100+ / night for just me. Thought about only staying Sat. night, but I know from doing the Tower of Terror which was at night, that I'll probably not be able to sleep at all and will need the next day to rest. Will have to give it some thought & see if I can get a friend or the DH to come with! Great suggestion about the bus/ taxi deal though. And even Port Orleans isn't a far walk from OKW for example, if I could get in there. Ugh.

I'm having a tough time with this one. My wait list came through, but I had already cancelled a BCV villa. I have no idea where we will be staying...no big deal for me, but for Dh it's a little bigger concern.
I'm a walker, so I will have a late start, and probably won't finish till around 2pm, so I don't plan on doing the party. Problem is, then where can DH wait for me? We'll have a rental car, but if our BCV wait list doesn't come through and we don't buy him a party ticket...where can he wait for me?

Well, if you are going to taxi it anyway check an off-site. I got a $39 rate in May 2009 in the Days Inn on 192.

Holy cow that's a good rate. I have a split week on an off site timeshare so I could use that if the WL doesn't come through.

Anyone know how much a cab would cost? And I wonder if any of the area hotels have a free airport shuttle. Would rather not rent a car if I can avoid it!
