Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Hooray! I did okay on my long run. Had a few muscles spasms in my chest but was able to breathe through them. Time was a little slower than it has been but I was happy all things considered.

Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes. I appreciate each of them.

Good luck to everyone on their training!!!!

I'm going camping tomorrow through Monday so hopefully my long run this week (8 miles) will be nice and cool.

I think I missed you, but have a get 8 miler! Hope the weather cooperates.

I'm just very excited for the Food & Wine fest -- first timer here!

Me too - my first Disney race and my longest race (even though I'm only doing the short leg of the relay)

Last night I did 6.6 miles in 88 degree weather, so I think I'm prepared for anything.

Way to go! I did a 3 mile run last night and felt good. I'm counting on adrenalin keeping me going through race time!

This weekend I'm going on a long walk - about 11 miles. I plan on doing it all by walking and see my time so I will know my - hopefully - worst case scenario.
Great strategy! I know you'll do great. And 11 miles is impressive (at least to me).

Congrats! It is awesome you were able to run through the challenges. My times have been a little slower lately. I need to pick it up or my partner may fall asleep waiting for me! :rotfl2:

I've got a 5K on Sunday morning - called Joggin for the Noggin. The part I'm looking forward to is the after party at my favorite brewpub. They're calling it Keg, Eggs and Legs! It's the whole reason I signed up. :lmao:

Had my worst run today. I don't know what it was but I struggled through it. I was to do 15 min run, 1 min walk for 3 cycles. Just before my last 15 min run I walked an extra minute and during the 15 min run I probably walked another 1.5-2 minutes.

I managed to go about just as far as I had when I actually completely ran all 3 15 min cycles so I guess.

Just had an off day I guess.

Hope everyone else does well - we're in for another round of HOT & HUMID weather coming up in MI... I don't mind the hot, it's the humid that can go away.

Ran my last 5K here in Africa on Friday. It was the rare humid morning, which prompted a couple of walking stretches. However, I must have been running pretty fast, 'cause I finished around 30 minutes, which is what I typically run it in non-stop. So that's good, I guess.

I leave here in less than 2 weeks, thank goodness!! Back to FL to climatize. Can't wait! :)

Congrats on the race! I hope your remaining 2 weeks are uneventful. Have a safe return and looking forward to meeting you at the Wine & Dine.

BTW- if you (or any other DISers) can make it to the 10/1 Boma dinner, please join us.

Thanks! I look forward to meeting as many as I can find. :)

However, my daughter will be running the kids races when the 10/1 meet is happening. Otherwise, I'd be there. I love meeting new people!

Oooohhhh! Someohow, I missed the story of why you are in Africa! I got to go to south africa a couple of years ago without kids. I stayed on a couple of private reserves bordering Kruger. Loved it and dream about going back just about everyday! Where are You?

Well today I walked 11 miles. I wanted to see what my time would be if the worst case scenario happened and I had to walk. I did the walk in 2hrs 49 min which put me at a 15.25 min/mile.

Not to bad I thought. I only jogged a quarter mile because I got caught in a downpour and jogged to the next path of trees where I wouldn't get drowned upon.

I'm happy with that time. My goal is to finish in 2.5 hours and really jog the first 6 miles in 1:06:00 and then walk/run remainder.

That sounds like a good idea if you are a very fast jogger. 10k in 1:06 is not a slow pace.

Yup, I'm working toward it. Currently I'm about 4.5 miles at just over an 11/min mile so with 2 more months to put under my belt I'm hoping I'll get there.

I run a 10K at the end of the month so I'll use that as a guage to see how I much I need to improve.

I'm in Djibouti, deployed here. I would NOT recommend it as a vacation spot. :)

Wow...are you permitted to say what you are working on? Stay safe.

No worries, I'm supporting the Combined Joint Task Force that has been here for quite a few years. I work in secure communications - distributing the cryptographic material used to secure our computer and radio networks.

I've been here for 6 months, so I'm QUITE ready to leave! :)

I'm getting so excited about the W&DH and the girls trip we planned around the event. Yesterday, I finished making final dining ressies :surfweb: which includes going to the Hoop-Dee-Doo-Review :woohoo: I know this cheesey show isn't to everyone's liking, but it really makes me giggle

We have free dining, a day in each park, the W&D Half, Food and Wine Festival, DTD, waterpark, and possibly the MNSSHP. I'm bringing a first time Disney visitor and I can't wait to see the wonder of Disney through her eyes. Her trip will be full pixie dust.

Hi, Everyone

I was wondering how many of you will be wearing a W.I.S.H shirt? Do you make your own?

or do you wear something else that will let the rest of the gang know you belong to the disboards?

I had a long run of 8 1/2 miles yesterday and felt REALLY good after it (took a little less than an hour and a half) -- I'm becoming confident that I can do this now!

I was just wondering, for those who have run at Disney before, what is it like at the finish line? I'm just wondering how I will find the rest of those in my party...do people have a designated meeting place or do they just carry cell phones? Just some newbie questions!

Good job on your LR! :) I'm up for 10 tomorrow. *gulp*

I'm bringing my cell phone with me, so I'll just call my boyfriend at the finish line. Plus, I have a pretty good idea what time I'll be finishing, so I may have him call me when I expect to be at mile 12 so he can get the finish on video.

Wow, fantastic job on the long runs everyone! You guys are definatly motivation for me.

As for the finish, you can carry a cell phone but if your party knows the approx time you will finish they can see you run towards the end (there are usually people lined up on both sides watching that last little bit towards the end) and then meet you shortly beyond.

Of course with it being in the dark, it might be better to use a cell.

I'll be wearing my WISH shirt (green race ready shirt) before and after the race and bright red Puma running shorts during it. As we get closer to the race someone might suggest a place to all get together at WWoS before the start and a place and time to meet up after. Usually it is at the "W" in meet up area but since it will be at Epcot probably in front of a country at a certain time late enough that everyone (or mostly everyone) has finished.
