Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I have a question for those of you that have run disney races before. How many characters are usually out on the course for pictures? Does it vary by race? How far apart are they? I want to enjoy the race, and take advantage of the unique photo opps, so I'm thinking that stopping for pics will take place of my normal walk breaks in order to keep a somewhat normal pace.

So just curious, how is everyone who is NOT staying at a host resort getting to & from the race?

I'm staying at AKV and probably taking ME to the resort and then taking the free shuttle to the WDW car care center to get a rental car that I can hopefully get for a good deal on priceline. That way my frugal self doesn't have to pay the tolls from the airport. I just don't know right now whether I'm getting a car Fri-Sun or Thurs-Tues.

If the 84 at the end of your name signifies the year you were born then my guess is you'll be way ahead of me, since I'm Shanonn too, but 69..Lol! Since I sustained a knee buckle & small separation of the calf & shin in March I'm averaging about 12min/mi. I know this won't be my best run, but I'll have a great time doing it!

I'm booked for SSR on Friday but don't have a spot for Sat yet. A car rental is about $100 so the car vs taxi thing is going to be a toss-up depending on where I end up for those nites. I'm really hoping for a DVC reservation. It's tough spending $$ when it's just me in the room.

I might have to see what the price of a car would be for the week..it may end up being worth it for me to do that maybe. My travel plans have been back and forth, because I just started a new job and my travel partner DBF has started a new job recently as well. So it is stressing me out some that things are up in the air still!

The 84 would be the year I was born, but please do not let age fool you, Im like the tortise and the hare - slow and steady wins the race :rotfl: or at least finishes it! :lmao:

I would expect them to be located in the parks only in a night race. Though Disney may set a stage up on Oceaola with a few characters. That said, I would think 4-6 locations in AK, and DHS each. I would not expect any in Epcot.

I've been out of commission the past two days with a cold (who gets a cold in August?) and really hoping to get a run in today.

Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things -- especially because time seems to be flying by!

And, has anyone used compression sleeves? A friend recommended them so I'm considering it..

I had surgery on my ankle in December and wore the surgical compression stockings for some time when I started training. I tried a couple of the compression sleeves marketed for runners and thought the amount of compression was a joke compared to the medical ones.

IMHO, I would purchase the medical grade compression stockings. They come in white, black, nude etc....They are less expensive (bought mine on ebay) and work better!

I also wore them when my shins were bothering me and they worked great to help support the muscle around the calf.

Good luck with your training!

Hi everyone!:wave2:

I'm running the F&W and this will be my first race EVER!!! I never thought I would run a race and I'm getting really excited for this trip!

I had ankle surgery in December and was still not feeling great in March :sad2:when I saw my surgeon for the final visit. I asked about starting aerobic activity and he said NO, nothing for the next calendar year:scared1: except some light walking.

Well..my girlfriend calls in April and asks How would I like to run the relay in October? and, I who has NEVER liked running and was told I should not run said "The race is at Disney!, Sure! I'll do anything for Mickey Mouse";) (with the back up plan that my running partner may need to run the whole race if for some reason (ankle) was not going to hold up)

So, first thing I did was start weight watchers! I thought there was no way I was going to start running at my current wt. Two months later (June) I started training for the race.

I'm now down 40+ pounds:cool1: and the training is going OK...My longest run yet is 3.8 miles..well more of a walk/run..I'm doing the couch to 10K program :)

My ankle feels good, some swelling, but nothing bad and virtually pain free! I found some great running shoes that have shock absorbers in the heel that help with the jarring from the road.

I can't wait for the race! I'll for sure be looking out for all of you in your dis Green!! Wish I had found this thread sooner so I could have gotten one of the cool race shirts....

See you all there!

Momhmmx2, did you get cleared to run by the physician? Sorry to be a party pooper, but if you were told no running for a year, and started running immediately, that is a huge recipe for injuries that are very serious.

Well sort of..He said to take the cues from how I was feeling..and at the time when I saw him my ankle was still swollen and sore that is WHY he said I shouldn't do anything. That is why I spent the first 2 months just losing wt. and NO physical activity other than sitting on couch and doing strengthening exercises for my ankle. AND I started out very slow greater than a 20"mile to see how the ankle would react. Well things have been going great! I'm up to about a 14-15minute mile. And just super excited to be under the 16" mile pace!

That's great. Keep working hard and listening to your body.

There are 10 of us at OKW (too many to hitch a ride!) We plan to walk to PORFQ and take the shuttle there. Coming home we will probably just grab a taxi.

@ the Princess the was something going on every mile, not just in the parks!

I don't know that there will be something at every mile but I'm sure there will be some entertainment along the route. Plus, the course will be lit up somewhat. It was for the Tower of Terror night race.

Got a little over 5 miles in today and came home drenched. I just can't wait until the humidity breaks - supposedly around tomorrow night around here. Can't wait so I can turn off the air and open some windows and maybe gain some speed on my runs...

What a rough summer for training!! Although I don't have any idea what I'm going to do in the winter - I just can't do a treadmill for that long..

I hear ya Cobbler! This is my first time to train for ANYTHING outside and this summer has been awful. The way I'm trying to look at it is that everyday it is hot and humid here will be like it is in October for the race!:scared1: Although the last few training days for me have been so hot and humid I have been forced to train inside on the treadmill:rolleyes1 so there goes my theory!

:lovestrucHere's hoping for fall!:lovestruc

Rental Car. We are at OKW right now and will drive, however I'm not sure of the logistics on where to park just yet.

Not 100% sure but would think they would park folks at Epcot and shuttle to the start. Jeez, one would at least hope that is the thought.

You know of the little back road that will keep you off Bonnett Creek...

Google Maps picked it up as a trail in the latest release.

I definately agree...the humidity has been AWFUL here! It's at least in the upper 90th percentile every day! The temps haven't helped out much either. I did all three of my runs last week on the Treadmill! Our outside run on Saturday was disgusting! lol I hate this weather! Hope it's not like this in October in Florida! It doesn't start cooling off for us here until November usually!
