Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Can you definitely sign up for the half, then switch to the relay later if there is still room? I know the races are only 60% right now, but I'm nervous I won't get a decision from possible relay partner and end up not getting to run at all... I would feel better if I was signed up for something instead of nothing...

I signed up for the half and then my sister decided last month that she wanted to participate. When I called, I was told that we had to sign up for the 1/2 relay and then I could send an email with the new confirmation number in order to get a refund for the full 1/2. I got my refund credited back last week. It does not hurt to contact them via phone or email to see what would be the deadline to change from doing the 1/2 to the relay.

First, the official answer is that you cannot hop into a resort. But look at the practicable side of the issue. You will be wearing running gear with a bib and no real wallet, purse, etc. All the driver and ground assistant are worried about is pulling up safetly, loading quickly - with as few hastles as possible - and pulling out for a safe drive to the start. They will not be checking room keys, etc. If you are worried, put a $20 in your shorts pocket and that would cover cab fare to the start.

As far as baggage, Disney seems to have their act in order. Note that you must use their bag provided at the expo. I will check a bag and will have dry shorts, shirt, socks and shoes in the bag for the post race party. I will also have a small container of recovery drink. Since it will be warm you do not need to worry about pre-race comfort... but I will have a trash bag (rain pancoo) in the bottom of the bag. Many folks will have a more torough list but I am a minimalist for the most part. I will task my DW with bringing a light jacket if it looks like the weather will be cool.

Thanks for the advice! I think I may end up going that route, I don't know, but at least I'd be prepared with taxi money in case I was turned away. I'm currently renting points which is non-refundable but I wish I had known POR or CBR were going to be options as host resorts or I might've picked them (although, I'm paying the same amount to stay at AKV as I would POR or CBR).

Thanks too for letting me know what you pack! The two races I've done have been in cool, nice weather so I hardly sweat at all. I was thinking this will probably not be the case in October in FL and I know I won't want to hang around feeling sweaty/gross at the after party.

This race needs to hurry up and come! I'm already looking at adding on yet ANOTHER day as it would cost nothing to switch my flight around.

I looked through the pages, and I didn't see a posting for the Food and Wine 1/2. (So, if there is one, someone please direct me to it!)

Anyway, I would love to do this race, as a relay, but, I don't have a partner! Anyone looking for a partner? As of right now I run around an 11-12 min. mile. I am running my first 5k in a little over a week, and I am going to be training for a 1/2 for November.

I will be arriving the day of the race, but since it isn't until 10pm, I figure I have time to get the family all settled in, and then run the race. Let me know if you are interested!

:welcome: to the thread! This is a pretty active thread and there's lots of good advise going around!

I found my partner for the half relay on this thread. It's not as active as this one, but you might find a partner. Or you may want to post a new thread on the WISH forum.

Good luck! :wizard:

Oh, but AKV is such a wonderful place to stay, definitely worth having to take a taxi ....or perhaps car pool with someone else staying there.

I've been going back and forth on whether I made the right decision staying there but all of the pictures look beautiful! I can't wait! Right now I'm thinking of renting a car even if it's just for 3 days (Fri-Sun).

Does anyone know approximately what time I would need to be at a host resort to catch a bus in time for the race?

Hi Roomthreeseventeen - I'm sorry i can't help you out with the bus timing. Just saying hi to another New Yorker. :)

Amy - I don't know for sure, but judging by the timing for the morning races, we will probably need to be on the buses 2-3 hours before the races starts. Probably between 7 and 8 pm.

Amy - can't say for sure when the first and last bus will go but I am sure that Disney will make it a little earlier than most of us want.

The race instructions will come out in September - then we will know for sure.

We almost always rent a car, just makes things easier for us.

We usully sign up for DME but end up renting at the last minute. If it's a short weekend I feel like I need to maximize the experience. If longer I need the grocery store run. And of course there is nothing like a shleter from the sleet and snow during the marathon pre-race.

DW and I are running a 10k 4th of July Weekend to have a time to submit. We are currently at 8.5 mi for our long run. We'd like to have a good race that day, how much do you need to taper for a 10K?

Does anyone know how to contact Disney Endurance to update them on a 10k time? Should I do it by e-mail?

From race website

I'm not big enough to post links or email addresses yet:)

If you do not provide proof of time at the point of registration or acquire it after you have registered, then email this information to disneysports at trackshack dot com before August 2, 2010. After August 2, 2010 you will need to bring proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booth at the Expo if you wish to have your start corral placement changed. If you listed a race result as proof of time when registering online, then you do not have to do anything further.

Did you have a good race?

Thank you!

Yes, personal 10k record of 1:01:34... broke previous record by 5 and a half minutes. :cheer2:

I hope someone here can help you! I'm absolutely awful at "tapering". I try to do it but I just want to keep running! :upsidedow I'm really going to focus on tapering before the half though. Good luck on your 10k!!

No hard running the week before and take the last couple days off pre-race. Warm-up pre-race with some light jogging. Stretch after warming up. Then you are off.

Good luck.

Congrats! That is awesome!

DW and I officially registered for the Inaugural Wine and Dine Half Marathon today. :cool1: We also got a good deal on airfare and booked that today also. Hopefully DS will be able to fly down from school that weekend as there is not a foorball game!
We are staying at BWV.

Where do you get the Wine & Dine clippie?
