In Training: Marathon Weekend 2015 (Dopey Challenge)! **COMPLETE**

Oh my! even 70 is hard for me to deal with.
It's definitely not ideal. I think I prefer it more in the 40s or 50s.
And there went your winnings.

Awe..poor pup!
I know. :( But he's better now, so that's the important thing!
Congratulations! So pretty!
THANK YOU!!! :lovestruc
UG.. speed work.
LOL!! Not a fan, I take it?! :rotfl2:
I understand what you mean... I think when you are close to your goal weight it is really tricky because you know you can do it...but sometime is just like "meh, close enough"
I'm definitely already in the "meh, close enough" mindset. Not good! :worried:
sounds much better than last year!
So much better! It was much more enjoyable this year.
What a great race recap! You did awesome!!! Love that someone noticed your skirt. How cool to have the Disney runners in the race too! And the story of Michael... very touching. Oh and I am dying with your old lady comments. You are a just a young thing! Now me... I am old
Haha, thanks...I wonder how entertaining the recaps are since they don't have pictures like my Disney race recaps do!
That is interesting on the tagents. It makes total sense. But maybe not as to why you are under the 5
I think it does too. After I read that article the first time I was just like... So I really try to keep that in mind when I run races now. But yeah, I should have still been at least at 5 miles.
That makes sense.
I think so...I have no idea what else it could be!
I spy a sparkle skirt.
Yeah you do!! :goodvibes
Do you keep your pace lower than race pace then? It would seem all of your races you run a lot faster than your training runs. I ask... because even though I know that is the way you are suppose to do it... I just can't seem to. I am trying to not focus to much on my pace while running and just do what feels comfortable. (today was hot..but I slowed WAY down and it was great run)
Yes, I do keep it lower. I don't really pat much attention to it but I guess it's supposed to be 60-90 seconds slower than goal race pace...although I seem to do my easy runs more at 2 minutes slower, so I might need to speed that up a bit.
I think you do a great job fitting so much in! You will get to it, I am sure.
Thanks! :goodvibes I am signed up for a class tomorrow, hopefully I will actually go to it!
How cool is that?!
I thought it was! Sort of surprised she can sell stuff with the DCL logo on it and not get busted by Disney, but it works out well for me! :teeth:
Oh my!!! that is even more cool than the decal.
Yes. Yes it is. :yay:
If you figure out where it went... let me know cause I too am really confused.
Still have no idea! :confused3 Maybe someone else knows!
For some reason I didn't realize that you too had 4 halfs... that is awesome!
We'll see if it's so awesome when the races are actually happening!
I think all races should be like this!
I agree wholeheartedly!
You can do it!
I hope so! I'd love to get it under 2 hours someday but this seems more realistic right now.
A bonus medal always is inspiration!
Agreed, more bling is always a good thing!
Sounds like a great plan!
:thumbsup2 HH hasn't steered me wrong yet!
I think that when you train for multiple races it makes it hard. You kinda have to pick and choose what you can do based on what race you are "more" training for at the time.
I agree, it's definitely hard. It makes me wonder if it was a bad idea to sign up for them (except for W&D...NEVER a bad idea to sign up for a Disney race!). Like...hopefully I'm smart enough to take them easy and not hurt myself.
It is so hard to keep up while on vacation.
It is! I haven't been very good at it so far!
I feel for ya. This summer training kinda sucks.
Yes. I think we've been lucky to have a relatively mild summer so far.
I love how you have a very clear and defined schedule.
Oh, it's all in spreadsheet form, too! Maybe I'll post a screenshot sometime! :rotfl2:
I think that sounds like a nice plan! I would hate losing the extra $25 but I could totally justify it because of being able to take someone like that and help her. Good for you!
I hate losing the cash too, but I think it'll be fun. Hopefully little cousin will train!
Yay! I bet you will be in D no problem at all!
It would be awesome! Not the end of the world if it didn't happen but it would be nice to move up one or two (most likely one, if at all).
So obviously I am trying to play some serious catch up on your PTR... sorry bout that.
:goodvibes
That is a really cute skirt. I think someone recently sold one... I can't remember how much for. I believe it was snatched up though. the 5 to 10 times might be a bit of a draw back... I don't know how or why all these gals have skirts just lying around that they "tried on once" or perhaps "ran in once" It is interesting.
It is a cute skirt...somehow I think it's cute, yet don't think it's really "for me" at the same time. Good to hear someone easily sold it at least once.

I feel like if I tried it one "once" and it didn't work I'd send it back...:confused3
I am super anxious for them to come. I feel like it is taking forever.
:hyper: Time seems slower when you are waiting for something you really want!
Isnt that one of the best things about vacation?
YES. OMG YES. :lovestruc
I know... I just don't understand why it takes the miles up so high. Maybe because it assumes more interval running when training and less during the race?
:confused3 Maybe to help your endurance/confidence? Search me!
So not a standard size track... which just made those laps feel extra long I bet.
Yes. I think I ended up finishing that run on the treadmill because I was so bored and kept losing count!
I dont' know I can do the laps any more. Last week just using a timed interval was so much more pleasant. I will do that from here on out. You think it still counts? I am using what my goal 800 time was for the "fast run" parts.
I think the biggest thing is to do some runs where you run fast...whether they are timed intervals or by distance. I'm sure it would still help.
So Shannon did explain that it was two separate runs. Your calculations have my head spinning. UGH, there is no way I could do 68 laps. I think I would just die. Yup. die.
:rotfl2:
Yep. EXCEPT that I didn't do the 30 laps. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I mentioned already that what I did was I took my goal pace that I had done on my previous speedwork on the track. (when it was "just" 8x 800) I gave myself less recovery after. It didn't work out quite like I would have hoped. The "fast run" interval wasn't as fast as my times around the track.... but it was very warm. I don't think I would have been able to do each 800 segment as fast as I did the previous time.
The weather and mental aspect really can mess things up sometimes. But you did what you could, that's all you can ask for!
Kinda... mostly...maybe.
:rotfl2: Better than just sitting on the couch! :yay:

Haha, thanks...I wonder how entertaining the recaps are since they don't have pictures like my Disney race recaps do!

Seriously, you do an awesome job!

Yeah you do!! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2

Yes, I do keep it lower. I don't really pat much attention to it but I guess it's supposed to be 60-90 seconds slower than goal race pace...although I seem to do my easy runs more at 2 minutes slower, so I might need to speed that up a bit.

That is really impressive. I worry that if I slowed down I would never be able to pull off the pace come race time.

Thanks! :goodvibes I am signed up for a class tomorrow, hopefully I will actually go to it!

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I thought it was! Sort of surprised she can sell stuff with the DCL logo on it and not get busted by Disney, but it works out well for me! :teeth:

That is kinda odd now that you mention it. I wonder if she just hasn't been caught yet.

I hope so! I'd love to get it under 2 hours someday but this seems more realistic right now.

I agree...someday under 2 for me. Right now... just under 2:15 would be nice.

Oh, it's all in spreadsheet form, too! Maybe I'll post a screenshot sometime! :rotfl2:

I love spreadsheets!
It would be awesome! Not the end of the world if it didn't happen but it would be nice to move up one or two (most likely one, if at all).

Well, I will be crossing my fingers for you!

It is a cute skirt...somehow I think it's cute, yet don't think it's really "for me" at the same time. Good to hear someone easily sold it at least once.

They go crazy fast...like often in under an hour time.
I feel like if I tried it one "once" and it didn't work I'd send it back...:confused3

Well, I get maybe worn once they can't go back. However just tried on? Yeah, I would send it back.

:confused3 Maybe to help your endurance/confidence? Search me!

Maybe. Or maybe it is a gateway. I mean... if I can run 17 miles surely I can do a full marathon, right? :rotfl:

I think the biggest thing is to do some runs where you run fast...whether they are timed intervals or by distance. I'm sure it would still help.

I hope so. I also realized I could set up the intervals for distance rather than time. Maybe that would be better. I might try that the next one.
The weather and mental aspect really can mess things up sometimes. But you did what you could, that's all you can ask for!

:rotfl2: Better than just sitting on the couch! :yay:

Agreed!

Seriously, you do an awesome job!
:goodvibes Aw, thanks.
That is really impressive. I worry that if I slowed down I would never be able to pull off the pace come race time.
Yeah, I'm not sure why it works, but it does. :confused3
That is kinda odd now that you mention it. I wonder if she just hasn't been caught yet.
I wonder that about a lot of stuff on Etsy. I know Disney has people that monitor social media and whatnot, you'd think they'd do the same for Etsy/eBay.
I agree...someday under 2 for me. Right now... just under 2:15 would be nice.
That's an awesome goal. You can totally do it!!
I love spreadsheets!
I present to you...a portion of my spreadsheet:
Screen+Shot+2014-07-11+at+11.48.27+AM.png

It's in a Google Doc (I LOVE Google Docs!!) and it is a calendar for the entire year, so that's the Dopey portion. :goodvibes
Well, I will be crossing my fingers for you!
Thank you, and thank you SO MUCH for sending the mod a message! :worship:
They go crazy fast...like often in under an hour time.
Wow! I hope mine does (assuming I get accepted into the group!)
Well, I get maybe worn once they can't go back. However just tried on? Yeah, I would send it back.
Yeah, I think you're right. That's the problem I ran into with that RT top, that I wore it once...:( I've bought and sent back 2 SparkleSkirts. The rest I still love except for this DoloTech.
Maybe. Or maybe it is a gateway. I mean... if I can run 17 miles surely I can do a full marathon, right? :rotfl:
Yes, I think so! My training plan tops out at 20 and I have seen another popular one that tops out at 16 miles!! Isn't that crazy?!
I hope so. I also realized I could set up the intervals for distance rather than time. Maybe that would be better. I might try that the next one.
I hope it works out for you!!
:yay:

Dopey Challenge Trip Plans - ADRs!

Woohoo, it's ADR day! :goodvibes Only 180 days until I'm checking in at the Boardwalk!!

So I was up and ready to go this morning at 6AM. This time around we aren't going to any of the super tough-to-get places (i.e. Be Our Guest or 'Ohana) so I wasn't too too nervous about getting what we wanted...but still. Dining IS important! So I did have a strategy in mind...

Here's the order I booked things...

Beaches & Cream (lunch)
Beaches & Cream (dinner)

I booked these first because Beaches & Cream is so small. Luckily I got the exact times I wanted without any issues and will be eating this exact same meal (possibly twice unless I feel like changing it up) in January!!
IMG_0368.JPG

Via Napoli (dinner)

Next up was Via Napoli. This is the most important meal of the week because it's my traditional pre-race dinner, so this is where we'll go the night before the marathon. Looking back, I probably should have booked this one first - I'm sure it's popular during race weekends and like I said, this NEEDS to be the meal I have the night before the marathon - just because I have done it this way before and it has worked for me (haven't gotten sick or anything). But I got it, so yay!
IMG_2162.jpg

Yachtsman Steakhouse (dinner)
The Plaza (dinner)

Two new-to-us places. Yachtsman is going to be the celebratory dinner the evening after the marathon. Really looking forward to trying this one for the first time, and bonus - it's a short walk from our resort. I was originally thinking Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge (one of our favorite restaurants on property), but it would be such a pain to get there from the Boardwalk. Then I was considering California Grill*, but Will seemed more interested in Yachtsman. I'd say I was equally interested in both, so Yachtsman it is!

*We had a bad experience at California Grill in 2011 but I'd like to go back since they renovated and revamped the menu. Will seemed less interested but I'll convince him some day!

WDWHolidayEdit-225.jpg

I'll be going to the Plaza - gasp! - solo earlier in the week for dinner. This place has been on my "must try" list for quite awhile now and I am excited for it! Weirdly enough...I'm sort of looking forward to the solo dining aspect of the whole thing. Whaaaa? Not sure why, but I am!

This is the closest thing I have to a picture of The Plaza...the ice cream shop! I wish I'd waited until these people were out of the shot. :headache:
WnDEdit-433.jpg

Yak & Yeti (lunch)
Captain's Grille (brunch)

This is where the dining reservation system started to fail me. I kept getting messages that the URL wasn't being found for these restaurants, or that the system couldn't find tables. Despite the fact that these messages were accompanied by an adorable picture of Stitch, I was non-too-pleased.

Eventually the Yak & Yeti reservation went through. We've had ADRs made here a couple of times and have canceled them for one reason or another...I'm determined to make this one stick this time!

WDWHolidayEdit-294.jpg

I couldn't get the Captain's Grille one to go through for the life of me. I tried multiple times on my computer and phone...nothing. Eventually I decided to just let it go (let it go...can't hold it back anymore! :p) and call at 7. Well, I forgot to do that, but I wasn't super worried - this was the last ADR I needed to make and (in my mind) was the least important, so if it didn't go through it wouldn't be the end of the world. Plus, Captain's Grille is pretty under-the-radar, I think, so I was sure a table would be open.

I tried again at 9AM (multiple times...:headache:) and FINALLY got it! Geez!
WDWHolidayEdit-245.jpg

So that's it! ADRs are done, and over half of them are new places for us, so that's fun. I think the only thing I have left to do are FP+ at the 60-day mark and...train.

And GOOD LORD DISNEY, make your computer systems better! Man!

Continued in Next Post

I love your spreadsheet!!!

yay for ADR day. Was mine too. (do we arrive the same day and I didn't realize?)

Beaches and Cream - I have never been but have wanted to. I always say net trip.

Via Napoli- OMG yum! I have that on my list but it is one that I have yet to book.

Yachtsmen - This seems like it would be a great celebratory meal. I have never been... but after the ToT, this is where we are planning to eat.

The Plaza - Just like Beaches and Cream... never been but always say "next time". Going alone to a meal can be really nice. I have done it on a few of my trips. It is a nice way to just have "you" time.

Yak and Yeti - I considered this one too. It has been a while since I have been there. If we don't go with the dinning plan we will go here. If we do then it will be the counter service instead.

Captains Grille - I too got it for brunch. :cool1: Doing this the day of the race though. Wait, now that I think about it... maybe I don't have brunch. :headache: What time does that end? Not even 12 hours and I am already thinking I might have to change things. :rotfl:

I had weird issues with the online system. Basically I got everything I wanted for check in plus 4 days. Where is the + 10? So I am just short a few things for those last couple days.

Congrats on getting your ADR's booked! Booking online was down almost all day yesterday...... glad today was your 180 day mark.

I'm on day 36 of stalking online dining reservations trying to get an early December Be Our Guest ADR. The earliest reservation at the 180 day mark was 180+6..... 2 days too late for me. I think having shortened restaurant hours due to MVMCP is adding to the difficulty in getting a reservation.

I'll be dining at The Plaza for the first time in December as well.

Woo-hoo for ADRs! I like your choices! I have most of mine booked as well...except for Boma breakfast after the 5k. It's showing no availability, but I've been told to keep trying, so I will. ;)

Yay for ADRs! Yachtsman is one of our current top choices as our last 3 meals there have been awesome. Citricos and Flying Fish are the other two top ones for us.

I see Via Napoli being a good pre race night meal.

My husband would probably love for us to eat at Beaches and Cream more than we do.

Overall your plans look good!

I love your spreadsheet!!!
:lovestruc Isn't it beee-yoo-tiful? :p
yay for ADR day. Was mine too. (do we arrive the same day and I didn't realize?)
Hmm, maybe? Wednesday?
Beaches and Cream - I have never been but have wanted to. I always say net trip.
I've been there twice now - first time was lunch right after the 2012 marathon. I know I had a burger but I don't remember how it tasted because I was so hungry that I just inhaled it. Then I went again in February and had the grilled cheese with tomato soup, and split a No Way Jose for dessert. Sooooo good! And convenient since we will be right at the Boardwalk.
Via Napoli- OMG yum! I have that on my list but it is one that I have yet to book.
OMG yum is right! Definitely my favorite place to eat in Epcot. :goodvibes
Yachtsmen - This seems like it would be a great celebratory meal. I have never been... but after the ToT, this is where we are planning to eat.
Okay, I'll be curious to hear your take on it. I recently saw a picture of their mac and cheese and it looks incredible, so I'm looking forward to trying that!!
The Plaza - Just like Beaches and Cream... never been but always say "next time". Going alone to a meal can be really nice. I have done it on a few of my trips. It is a nice way to just have "you" time.
Same here - this one and Yak & Yeti are places I've had ADRs booked at a few times and then they get bumped for somewhere else. The sandwiches look so good here so I'm looking forward to it.

I've done some solo meals at restaurants at home but never at Disney! I am looking forward to the "me" time before the chaos of the races starts up, for sure.
Yak and Yeti - I considered this one too. It has been a while since I have been there. If we don't go with the dinning plan we will go here. If we do then it will be the counter service instead.
That's probably part of why we haven't been there yet - not on the dining plan or Tables in Wonderland. :confused3
Captains Grille - I too got it for brunch. Doing this the day of the race though. Wait, now that I think about it... maybe I don't have brunch. What time does that end? Not even 12 hours and I am already thinking I might have to change things.
Woohoo!! Ummmm I think it would end by 11? Hmm...
I had weird issues with the online system. Basically I got everything I wanted for check in plus 4 days. Where is the + 10? So I am just short a few things for those last couple days.
That is so weird. I think a lot of people have issues with the 180+10...I hope you get everything.
Congrats on getting your ADR's booked! Booking online was down almost all day yesterday...... glad today was your 180 day mark.
Thanks! Ugh, that stinks that it wasn't working for you. :sad2:
I'm on day 36 of stalking online dining reservations trying to get an early December Be Our Guest ADR. The earliest reservation at the 180 day mark was 180+6..... 2 days too late for me. I think having shortened restaurant hours due to MVMCP is adding to the difficulty in getting a reservation.
Good luck!!! I bet you will get it if you stalk enough. I've had to stalk the system for 'Ohana ADRs and they have come through every time. :goodvibes Haven't tried for Be Our Guest yet but I have heard of other people getting them.
I'll be dining at The Plaza for the first time in December as well.
Well I hope we both like it!! :goodvibes I'm actually eyeing the vegetarian sandwich: mozzarella, hummus, basil pesto, roasted red pepper...yum!
Woo-hoo for ADRs! I like your choices! I have most of mine booked as well...except for Boma breakfast after the 5k. It's showing no availability, but I've been told to keep trying, so I will.
That is so weird about Boma! I wonder what the deal is with that?! I hope you get it!!
Yay for ADRs! Yachtsman is one of our current top choices as our last 3 meals there have been awesome. Citricos and Flying Fish are the other two top ones for us.
Awesome, I am so glad to hear that about Yachtsman!! :goodvibes Totally agree with you about Citricos, that place is incredible. We've never eaten at Flying Fish because we don't like seafood...:sad2:
I see Via Napoli being a good pre race night meal.
It works for me, I think because the crust isn't too heavy and they don't put a TON of cheese on the pizzas. I could see it not agreeing with some people though. Of course, Friday night is pizza night at my house, which means I have a lot of practice eating pizza the night before my long runs, so maybe that's why I like it at Disney. :goodvibes
My husband would probably love for us to eat at Beaches and Cream more than we do.
Beaches and Cream is definitely becoming a favorite of mine...especially now that they take ADRs. The first time I ate there I think we waited 45 minutes for a table, so I like having the ADR now.
Overall your plans look good!
Thanks! I'm looking forward to it! :goodvibes

Week 1 of Half Marathon Training
Monday, July 7, 2014 - Sunday, July 13, 2014

16.75 miles completed
16.75 miles completed in half marathon training so far
380.45 miles completed in 2014 so far

Monday, July 7: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 1) + Ab Burner

New week, new training session! Same ol' Chalene though.

Good workout today. I bumped up a few weights and can definitely feel it, in the arms especially. I also made sure to get in some abs today - I definitely fell off the wagon a little bit last week.

Right now we're trying to take care of last-minute things we need to do before the cruise. We're getting the hardwood floors in the upper level of our house refinished while we are gone...they are pretty beat up, and we want them stained darker to match the rest of the floors in the house. This means we need to clear pretty much everything out of the bedrooms. We have 3 - our room, the guest room, and the future (way in the future!) nursery, which is painted pink from the previous residents of our house (thus we call it "the pink room"). Right now the pink room is the dumping ground for all of the random crap in the house and is a freaking mess, so we started cleaning it out yesterday - who knew I still had some many old notes from grad school and back issues of Runner’s World magazine! (All went into the recycling bin.) We worked on it for about 1-2 hours yesterday and made a very small dent, so that will be an ongoing project in addition to cleaning out the other two bedrooms (should take way less time, but those rooms have beds and we have two dressers in our room...so much heavier stuff). Yay for added cross training!

This whole process is such a pain, from the cleaning to not being able to actually walk on the floors for a few days when we get back home, but it'll be so worth it to have the floors look nice. The company that's doing it refinished our floors in another room last year and they look amazing - from totally beat up to looking brand new - so I know it'll look awesome when it's done. And this is really the best way to do it, while we (and the dog) are gone for most of the process.

We're also due to get some custom shelving installed in our front room at the end of this week. I love our house, but we just do not have a lot of storage. What we're getting installed is two bookcases on either side of a large window, along with a window seat (with storage) in between. That should help a lot with the pink room crap, and I know Archie will loooooove that window bench. This was supposed to be done by the beginning of this month, but there's been a delay, and I'm really hoping that stuff will get installed this week - stinks that it's going to happen so close to us leaving. It's something that has been in the works for awhile and we're really looking forward to having it done.

I also put a hold on our mail yesterday...a much quicker and less-involved process than the cleaning has been. And the dog got his last dose of ear medicine this morning, so I'm sure he'll be thrilled to not have us messing with him anymore!

And today I switched from the RNR Cleveland Half Marathon to the RNR Cleveland Mini Marathon and updated my proof-of-time for Wine & Dine. Yay!

Lastly...I submitted an abstract for a work-related conference about a month ago and was notified today that it was accepted! So I'll be heading to Chicago for a weekend in October (the same weekend as the Tower of Terror 10-miler, which is why I didn't sign up for it) to present my paper...which I still need to write. I don't love giving presentations but I know my boss appreciates that I do it, so that's always a good thing.

Tuesday, July 8: Run #1 (3 miles on the treadmill)

Soooo today I woke up and thought it was Wednesday. It's not. :( That stinks.

Pretty decent run today (5/1 run/walk intervals - 32:33 finishing time, 10:51ish/mile pace I guess). My legs felt good but my arms and chest are KILLING me. I think it's a combination of yesterday's CLX session plus continuing to move stuff out of the pink room last night. We made some good progress and will have to make some trips to Salvation Army/Goodwill, but the amount we got done last night was pretty encouraging. Despite that fact, I know it's stressing Will out - between getting the upper level ready before we leave and him trying to finish up his semester at school (only 6 more school days left!!!) he's been pretty busy. This cruise will be coming at a perfect time!

Shopping update: Yep, another one. Stupid AM Disney email. :sad2:
vera.jpg

Just like last week's Dooney purchase, I was able to stack discounts (free shipping + 10% off Disney Visa code).

With that I am unsubscribing from the Disney Store's email list. Just waaayyy too enabling (I had to do the same with the Vera Bradley email list about a year ago ). Pretty much the only things I order from the Disney Store anymore are Dooney & Bourke and Vera Bradleys, and after today I will have recently gotten new things for each of those, so it's time for a break.

Between getting our built-ins installed (hopefully on Saturday!!!), getting the floors refinished and potentially getting our downstairs bathroom re-done (had someone over for a quote yesterday - our bathroom is so gross it's unusable right now, and getting it updated would REALLY improve our house a lot!), we're sinking a good chunk of change into the house this month and are planning on booking a couple more cruises (!!) so cutting down on the spending is a must right now!

As for last week's shopping hijinks…

Raw Threads: I am still planning on purchasing the 3 tops I originally bought in the racerback style in the equilibrium cut. However, in looking around the Raw Threads website, it looks like the Anna-inspired top (called "Reindeer") is NOT available in equilibrium. It seems the only choices for this top are the racerback cut (which I know doesn’t work for me) or the "Street V" (which has short sleeves, and I'd really prefer sleeveless for Marathon Weekend). :sad2: I sent Raw Threads a message yesterday asking if they plan to have the Reindeer top available in the equilibrium cut...if they say no I'll most likely order the short-sleeved version anyway. :)

Etsy Purchases: I received the DCL sticker very quickly, but I am not sure when I will receive the camera strap or the Castaway Club keychain. The person making the camera strap did respond very quickly to a message I sent her with a question, so at least I know I'm on her radar. I guess I forgot that Etsy purchases can take awhile since the people actually have to, you know, MAKE the items! I feel like it's possibly too soon to start bugging the shop owners about when things will ship, but I was hoping both would arrive in time for the cruise. I am thinking that's less and less likely. I may send both shop owners a message later this week, just to check in.

Luggage Tags - personalized via Shutterfly, arrived yesterday. They seem pretty nice!

This is what they look like, except they have our information on them. On the other side I have our address, cell phone numbers and email addresses.
tags.jpg

Mom’s birthday gift: Part of it arrived last week...a Baggallini Messenger. I also got one for myself:
47360_1_1

I have heard great things about these bags and found a steal of a deal for them on Amazon ($37 apiece! I just looked on Amazon today and they are listed as costing $55!). Hopefully we will both like them!

After ordering luggage tags for myself and Will, I realized that I should have gotten a set for mom too! ARRG! So I ordered those and got an email that they shipped yesterday (except hers will be blue/green). I also got her a Disney giftcard for our upcoming trip (will talk about that more after our cruise!). :) Her birthday is on Sunday so we’re going out to brunch. Yuuummmm!

Shoes! I ordered these at packet pick-up last Sunday and got the call last night that they arrived. Will picked them up today!

His shoes (he went with the pair on top, the blue/green pair. I was expecting him to go for the blue/grey!):

So pretty! I have another unopened blue pair sitting in my closet, so I'll get those out whenever my current pair dies (hoping to get another 100 miles or so out of them). I'm thinking (hoping) that blue pair #1 will last me through most, if not all, of Dopey training, and then I'll start breaking in these two new pairs (pink pair and blue pair #2) when it's taper time...i.e. right around Christmas. Then I'll use one pair for the 5K/half marathon, and the other pair for the 10K/marathon.

Cruise Update

On June 30 I received a Disney Cruise Line survey in my email, similar to the ones they send out for the parks and resorts. I work in research and know how valuable data collection is (curious to know just how much data they're collecting on those Magic Bands!!), so I took the survey. One of the final questions was something along the lines of whether I'd participate in further research onboard the ship. I answered "yes" and didn't think much of it.

Well, today I received an email from someone in Disney’s "Consumer Insight" Department asking me to participate in a research panel during our upcoming cruise. Per the email, it will take no more than one hour on Nassau day, we'll basically be asked about our experience so far (what we like and do not like), and in return for our time, we’ll get a $150 onboard credit!

I ran it by Will and we both decided to go ahead and participate - now that we've canceled the chocolate tour our day is very open. We have the Palo reservation at 6 (OMG YUM) and we both want to go to the gym in the morning...and I'd like to have sit-down breakfast and possibly lunch that day, so I want to work around the dining room hours. But other than that, we'll probably just be lounging on the adults-only deck and using our spa passes. So it shouldn't be a big deal to spend an hour on this.

We're both really curious about the whole thing and, hello! $150! That's our Remy meal right there. :thumbsup2 I think I'd be less likely to want to do it in WDW just because traveling to wherever the panel is would be a hassle in and of itself, and losing an hour of park time would be hard to swallow, but on the ship it'll be a 10-minute walk to whether we meet at most and we'll just be taking a break from lounging and sipping fruity drinks. I'm really interested to see what they ask us.

Wednesday, July 9: Run #2 (35-minute tempo run...3.25 miles completed)

Okay, now it's ACTUALLY Wednesday! :cool1:

Tempo run went pretty well this morning. I felt good, just the same problem as always - it seemed to take a long time, I guess because I was watching the clock a lot. But overall it was a good run and I ended up going 3.25 miles. This is the first time I'm trying out my new schedule - normally I'd lift today and do the tempo run tomorrow, with run #3 of the week on Friday and my long run on Saturday. I'm curious to see if switching up the days will help me have a better long run. We'll see how it goes! So far, so good, but I do think that this schedule change-up is what is making me think it's later in the week than it really is. :confused3

I realized this morning that I meant to do abs stuff last night and completely forgot, so I'm hoping I'll remember today.

I did got a very nice surprise when I got home yesterday - Will finished cleaning out the pink room! So awesome of him. He said it only took another hour or so, but we are both so relieved it's done. I also started on my closet yesterday - after only about 10 minutes I'm almost done, so that's good. I'm hoping to knock out the guest room this weekend, as well as our dressers and nightstands in our room. Most of this is going to be a solo task since Will is going to be super busy working on school stuff...except for the dressers. I CANNOT move dressers by myself. We're saving our bed until the day before the cruise.

I heard back from the DCL research person and we have a time set up for our onboard meeting. Just need to get some other small details ironed out for that...VERY interested to see what this is all about!

And lastly…

Shopping Update: I heard back from Raw Threads and it sounds doubtful that they’re going to print the Anna-inspired top in the equilibrium cut any time soon, so I went ahead and ordered it in the v-neck, short-sleeved cut, along with the Tiana- and Elsa-inspired tops (both in the equilibrium cut). So now all I need is one Sweaty Band and all of my Disney race outfits are ready to go! :)

Thursday, July 10: Run #3 (3.5 miles on the treadmill)

Back to the treadmill today! On Tuesday I did run 5 minutes/walk 1 minute. Today I did run 6 minutes/walk 1 minute. Total time for 3.5 miles was 37:44, about a 10:47/mile pace.

I forgot to do abs stuff AGAIN last night. But I did move more stuff out of the guest room, and I pulled all of the drawers out of my dresser in our continued preparation to get the upstairs ready to have the floors refinished. So that's something.

**WW UPDATE**

Weighed in this morning and was exactly the same as last week - I guess I'm disappointed and relieved at the same time. Disappointed because obviously I would have liked to see a loss, but relieved because, just like last weekend, I was a little sloppy this past weekend. Oh well! At least I didn’t gain.

Friday, July 11: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 2) + Ab burner

Busy, busy day today. It started with some ADRs, followed by CLX - Burn 2 and ab burner. That went okay.

Then in between whatever work I had to do for today, I had quite a few errands to run. At some point I realized I wasn't going to have time to do everything, so once again, the yoga class I'd signed up for this week (today at 5PM) got the axe. Someday I'll get back to yoga...some day. Maybe.

Also, BIG day for Cleveland today - LeBron James is coming back. Have you heard? :upsidedow I am definitely among the many Clevelanders that was pretty angry when he left (not that he left - I get it, it's business, he wanted to go somewhere to win and to get paid - but the way he did it with that awful ESPN special, THAT is what left a bad taste in my mouth), but I think we're all ready to bury the hatchet and move on. The letter he "wrote" for SI (of course he didn't write the whole thing - or probably even a majority of it) was great and addressed pretty much everything that I think needed to be addressed. And it's going to be amazing for Cleveland - it'll get us some good, positive national exposure and will be GREAT for the economy. So this is definitely a good thing! I guess I need to start watching basketball again. :upsidedow

Saturday, July 12: Run #4 (7 mile out-and-back)
Weather: 81 degrees and sunny, 54% humidity

1 WEEK UNTIL DISNEY!!! WOOHOO! :yay:

Ahem. Anyway...long run today.

As usual, I started it too late (about 10:45AM). Despite the fact that it was warm and sunny out, the conditions (thankfully) didn't bother me too much. There was a bit of a breeze, I was able to stay in the shade for most of the run, and it wasn't very humid at all. Whew!

When I started the run I navigated to the intervals section of my Garmin and decided again to do run 4 minutes/walk 1 minute intervals. I selected the "Do Workout" option and was off!

I was on a route that is very familiar to me, and as I approached what I knew to be the half-mile mark, I began to wonder why the watch hadn't beeped to signify a walk break. Well...turns out not only do you have to say you want to "Do" the workout, you then need to press the button again to actually start the timer. So I actually hadn't started my watch. :furious: ARRRRG! I actually think the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago, but I noticed quickly (like, within a step or two of starting the run) and started the timer...and now it had been long enough that I'd forgotten I had to do that.

So I walked until I got to where I thought 0.5 miles was and then started the watch, intending to run until the watch read 6.5 miles. Overall the run was pretty good. In the beginning I drank water every 20 minutes (but quickly moved to more frequent drinks around the halfway point) and I ate a Honey Stinger Waffle at about the 40-minute mark (honey flavor - not bad!). At the 6.5-mile mark my watch read 1:11:18 with a 10:56/mile pace, so I guess the entire run actually took, I don’t know, 1:16:18 (including that portion at the beginning where I didn’t start the watch on time). HH says to do long runs 30-90 seconds slower than goal race pace, and I'd say my goal race pace is in the 9:45 - 9:55/mile range for the half, so I'm happy with that pace for a long run.

I'm not sure what I think about my new weekly schedule (namely running Wednesday/strength training Friday...where it used to be the opposite). I thought it would help me to not have a day of running before my long runs, but my legs still felt pretty sore today from CLX. The last two miles of the run were especially tough. Hmm...I guess I'll see how I feel about it over the next few weeks. Mostly I'm wondering what to do about the upcoming goal race pace runs. As they are scheduled right now, those would be done on Thursdays (on the treadmill as usual) but I really think it would benefit me more to do them outside on the concrete, since that is the surface the race will be on. So I may need to move those goal race pace run to a time where I can do them outside. Hmm...

Also! My shirts arrived from Raw Threads (and they fit!) and we got our built-ins installed!

(So hard to photograph. It looks like there's a nuclear event going on outside...and I wish I'd taken a better "before" picture. Oops.)

Very pleased with how these turned out. I think they look spectacular, and we've managed to get lots of the leftover crap that wasn't donated or trashed from the pink room into the cabinets...exactly what I'd hoped for. The last coat of protective oil top of the bench is still curing for 48 hours, which means we need to keep the dog out of the room until then so he doesn't mess up the finish. He does not like this AT ALL and has already managed to sneak into the room once. Tomorrow may be rough!

Sunday, July 13: Rest Day

Today is my mom's birthday! :yay: I ordered her gift last week and was excited to give it to her - next year is a "milestone birthday"for her and I have a pretty big gift planned for that one (will talk about that when I get back from the cruise, as it's Disney-related!) so her gift this year ties into that.

Originally we had plans to go to brunch, but my aunt decided to have a birthday BBQ (two of my uncles also have birthdays around this time of year as well, so it was a three-part celebration), so we went to that instead. I'm not gonna lie...I was a little sad brunch got canceled because I love breakfast food so much, but I guess I can have brunch some other time!

This was good, though, because I had an opportunity to talk to my cousin who will be running the RNR Cleveland Mini Marathon with me. I think she's looking forward to it, and I'd put a little training plan together for her, so she wanted me to text that to her and said she'd follow it. She also said she'd be okay to run it by herself and I was just like, "Nooooo run it with meeeee!" Rather than saying, "No, you're only 13, you're not running downtown by yourself!!" I'm sure it would be fine since she'd be surrounded by race people, but still...

I made 40 mini red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and took those to the party. So that was awesome, obviously! Yum!

And also...1 WEEK UNTIL EMBARKATION DAY! I can't believe it's almost here! I am going to be totally useless at work this week!

Continued in Next Post

I've gotten a bit behind on your report, but I'm all caught up now. Sounds like the training continues to go well! And it's almost Disney time. :cool1: I think the onboard panel sounds interesting and hey, $150!

Love the spreadsheet.

And the built-ins look great!!!

Hellooooo! Yep, training is good so far. Nervous to start the actual Dopey training... But that's a problem for future Shannon.

WOOHOO almost Disney time! I'm super interested to see what the panel is about. I do think it's a little strange that we're supposed to tell them if the cruise is meeting our expectations, but by the time we meet with them we will have been on the ship for a little less than 24 hours...wouldn't they get better/more useful responses if the meeting was later in the cruise? :confused3 Oh well! I'm not complaining, I will happily take my $150 onboard credit! :cool1:
Love the spreadsheet.
Why thank you. :teeth: 'tis my price and joy!
And the built-ins look great!!!
THANK YOU! :) I almost got cold feet last week but now I love them - so much storage! It's limiting our furniture placement options in that room a bit but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make. :thumbsup2

The built ins look great!

I totally understand that week before vacation being absolutely useless as you rather it just hurry up and be time to go! :yay: Enjoy it!

Smart move on getting rid of the subscription for Disney Shopping! If you don't know whats there, you won't need any of it ;)

The built ins look great!
Thanks!! :goodvibes We are super happy with them!
I totally understand that week before vacation being absolutely useless as you rather it just hurry up and be time to go! :yay: Enjoy it!
You know...I haven't actually been as useless as I expected. I think part of me still doesn't comprehend that it's really almost here. :confused3 Maybe I won't fully realize it until we are actually on the ship! :upsidedow
Smart move on getting rid of the subscription for Disney Shopping! If you don't know whats there, you won't need any of it ;)
Exactly! Getting those emails every morning was starting to become a bit of a problem for me! :worried: :rotfl2:

Hmm, maybe? Wednesday?

Yep, that is when we arrive.

I think this is another reason I like the epcot area resorts. There are so many good and convenient food choices.

Okay, I'll be curious to hear your take on it. I recently saw a picture of their mac and cheese and it looks incredible, so I'm looking forward to trying that!!

Well, hopefully I can get a TR update on it before January comes round.

That's probably part of why we haven't been there yet - not on the dining plan or Tables in Wonderland. :confused3

Yak and Yeti is on the dp. I guess this would not make sense for us if we don't use the dp...since I would be wanting to use the tiw. It does not take tiw.

Woohoo!! Ummmm I think it would end by 11? Hmm...

I think you are right.

That is so weird. I think a lot of people have issues with the 180+10...I hope you get everything.

I was able to in roughly the times I wanted. :goodvibes

It does sound like a work out! It is so hard when you have a dumping ground like that. Mine is my garage... well and my bedroom since we started to gut my bathroom. I just sometimes wish I could totally purge everything just to start clean and fresh. It is amazing how much can be accumulated when you live somewhere for over a decade.

So you get to come home to like brand new floors? That is awesome!

That is so cool!

...I submitted an abstract for a work-related conference about a month ago and was notified today that it was accepted! So I'll be heading to Chicago for a weekend in October (the same weekend as the Tower of Terror 10-miler, which is why I didn't sign up for it) to present my paper...which I still need to write. I don't love giving presentations but I know my boss appreciates that I do it, so that's always a good thing.

Congrats!

Sounds like the cruise will come just in time!
Shopping update: Yep, another one. Stupid AM Disney email. :sad2:
vera.jpg

Just like last week's Dooney purchase, I was able to stack discounts (free shipping + 10% off Disney Visa code).

It is good you got a discount at least, right?

With that I am unsubscribing from the Disney Store's email list. Just waaayyy too enabling (I had to do the same with the Vera Bradley email list about a year ago ). Pretty much the only things I order from the Disney Store anymore are Dooney & Bourke and Vera Bradleys, and after today I will have recently gotten new things for each of those, so it's time for a break.

I can understand. Sometimes when there is temptation it is easier to just take a break.

Oh no! That stinks. I am with you...prefer to have a tank for race day.

I think that is one reason I don't go through etsy. I tend to be an instant gratification sort of gal and that waiting would just about kill me.

Luggage Tags - personalized via Shutterfly, arrived yesterday. They seem pretty nice!

This is what they look like, except they have our information on them. On the other side I have our address, cell phone numbers and email addresses.

:thumbsup2

Mom’s birthday gift: Part of it arrived last week...a Baggallini Messenger. I also got one for myself:
47360_1_1

I have heard great things about these bags and found a steal of a deal for them on Amazon ($37 apiece! I just looked on Amazon today and they are listed as costing $55!). Hopefully we will both like them!

I have read great things about these bags and have wanted to try one. You got a great deal!

Shoes! I ordered these at packet pick-up last Sunday and got the call last night that they arrived. Will picked them up today!

Yay for new shoes!!!

So pretty! I have another unopened blue pair sitting in my closet, so I'll get those out whenever my current pair dies (hoping to get another 100 miles or so out of them). 1 WEEK UNTIL DISNEY!!! WOOHOO! :yay:

Well, only a couple days now! :woohoo:

Ahem. Anyway...long run today.

Sounds like it was a good run. I hear ya on getting out too late though... I really need to stop doing it myself.

Also! My shirts arrived from Raw Threads (and they fit!) and we got our built-ins installed!

Very cool on both accounts! I love the pictures of the room!

And also...1 WEEK UNTIL EMBARKATION DAY! I can't believe it's almost here! I am going to be totally useless at work this week!

Not long now!!!

Yep, that is when we arrive.
I'm sure that's a popular day for a lot of people!
I think this is another reason I like the epcot area resorts. There are so many good and convenient food choices.
This will honestly be the first time we've really taken advantage of the places at Yacht & Beach. Overall I think we'll do a good job sticking to that area. :goodvibes
Well, hopefully I can get a TR update on it before January comes round.
:thumbsup2
Yak and Yeti is on the dp. I guess this would not make sense for us if we don't use the dp...since I would be wanting to use the tiw. It does not take tiw.
Ohhhh. We haven't been on the dining plan since 2009 so I'm not too sharp on the place that do accept it. I think I was thinking of Y&Y not taking, TiW, you're right! I think they have an AP discount maybe?
I think you are right.
We're there at the latest possible time, 10:45 or something. :)
I was able to in roughly the times I wanted.
That is always a good feeling!
::yes:: Our garage could use a good cleaning out too. I'm definitely planning on doing that sometime next month. We've only been in our house for 4.5 years but we have a lot of stuff people gave us when we first moved, so I'd like to clear some of that out. I'm grateful or what people gave us but some of it we just don't use. Starting fresh and clean does sound lovely!
So you get to come home to like brand new floors? That is awesome!
Yes!...but the catch is that we cannot walk on them just yet. And we can't put rugs down for a week+, so that means we, and the dog, can't get into our bedroom for awhile! The dog will not like that!
That is so cool!
:goodvibes The shelves are awesome! We are so happy with them.
Congrats!
Thanks! I can't say I'm super, you know, excited about it, but it's good fo rmy career.
Sounds like the cruise will come just in time!
Most definitely. We are very ready for it!
It is good you got a discount at least, right?
:rotfl: Yes, definitely better than full price! I'm sending one thing back though.
I can understand. Sometimes when there is temptation it is easier to just take a break.
My bank account will thank me. ::yes::
Oh no! That stinks. I am with you...prefer to have a tank for race day.
Especially with how warm the WDW races have been lately. I'm thinking that one will probably have to be for one of the shorter races.
I think that is one reason I don't go through etsy. I tend to be an instant gratification sort of gal and that waiting would just about kill me.
I haven't ordered a ton of stuff from Etsy, but I forgot about the lag in getting stuff EVERY time. Then I remember and am just like...
I have read great things about these bags and have wanted to try one. You got a great deal!
I hope we like them! My mom seemed happy with hers! I am going to take mine on the cruise and see what I think.
Yay for new shoes!!!
:goodvibes They're so pretty too. I never thought I'd be excited for new running shoes!
Sounds like a great plan
I hope it works out. The more I think about it though, the more I think there's no way just one pair is going to last me until Christmas. We'll see. :confused3
That is awesome!
:cool1: So curious to see what they ask us!
I bet it felt good to have so much checked off as "done".
Totally! The only thing we have left is our bed. Not looking forward to taking that apart!
Not gaining is still a win.
I agree. I need to re-commit when we get back!
Well, only a couple days now!
:dance3:
Sounds like it was a good run. I hear ya on getting out too late though... I really need to stop doing it myself.
Me too. I think I'm getting away with it because we're having weirdly cool-for-July temperatures right now. If we were having normal July temperatures I'm sure I would have learned my lesson at this point.
Very cool on both accounts! I love the pictures of the room!
:goodvibes I need to get some better pictures but right now the room is filled with all of our crap from upstairs!
Not long now!!!
AHHHHH!!!!!:woohoo:

Monday, July 14: Run #1 (4 miles on the treadmill)

Bonjour, and Happy Bastille Day! (Seriously, that was one of the first things I thought of when I woke up this morning...one of the only fun facts I remember from high school French class.)

With our trip coming up at the end of the week (!!) my schedule is shuffled around a bit over the next few days. Saturday (travel day) and Sunday (embarkation day) are totally shot for any kind of exercise, so I want to get all my runs in before we leave.

So today I was on the treadmill. I did intervals (run 6 minutes/walk 1 minute) and it went okay (43:11 total for 4 miles, 10:47ish pace?) but I had a side ache for about half of the run, which is pretty unusual for me. I think the franticness of trying to get the house ready before we leave (moving stuff into the new cabinets, clearing out the bedrooms, and general clean-up) is starting to get to me, because I felt tense and slightly stressed all weekend, and that may have carried over into this morning’s run. Plus, I didn't drink very much water this weekend. Boo! But it's definitely nice to know I have my longest treadmill run of the week done.

Dopey Challenge Update: I decided to go ahead and email my 2014 10-miler time to the runDisney team to update my corral placement - I figure this way they can get it into the system and I possibly won't have to mess with their time submission site later on (unless my September half marathon time breaks ALL OF THE RECORDS). In the past they have been really good about responding to me the next day, so we'll see if they are still as quick as they were before.

Tuesday, July 15: Run #2 (3 miles at goal race pace - treadmill)

Goal race pace runs?! Eek!

I'm going to shoot for the stars and say that my goal race pace is 9:45/mile, which would get me my ultimate goal of breaking 2:10 in the half. So that is the pace I will need to aim for when doing these race pace runs. In general I think it works for me to do most of my runs on the treadmill (about 50% of my weekly mileage) despite the fact that the races I do are on concrete, but I don't think it would be smart for me to do all of these goal race pace runs on the treadmill. I feel like the point of them is to learn the pacing myself, not to have the treadmill do it for me. But for this week, where my days are getting a little mixed up, the goal race pace run on the treadmill will have to do.

I was a little nervous for this run, I think because lately I've been doing most of my runs at an easy pace using intervals, but it went pretty well. I was able to do the entire thing without stopping or taking any walk breaks (which I rarely do on the treadmill anymore) and ended up with a negative split.

I did the following on the treadmill:

1.5 miles at 6.1 MPH (9:50/mile pace)
1 mile at 6.2 MPH (9:40/mile pace)
0.25 miles at 6.3 MPH (9:31/mile pace I think?)
0.15 miles at 6.4 MPH (forget what this pace is)
0.1 miles at 6.5 MPH (forget what this pace is)

Total time for 3 miles was 29:19, 9:46ish/mile pace or something. Woohoo!

My Disney Vera stuff arrived yesterday. I was stupid when ordering and didn't read the measurements for the cosmetic bag. It's waayyyy bigger than I thought it was going to be, so that's going back because the size just won't be useful for me. Love the wallet though.

Also, my Etsy camera strap arrived, and it's freaking adorable. Chevron on one side, classic Mickey on the other! :)

Wednesday, July 16: Strength Training (ChaLEAN Extreme Burn 3) + Ab burner

I find myself really dreading the Burn 3 workout - lots of heavy leg stuff in this one. It's sooooo hard. But it seemed mostly okay today. I think on one of the exercises I need to drop down in weight because I’m not completely convinced I am doing it correctly right now. Also got some abs in afterward.

In our continued efforts to get the top level of the house ready to have the floors refinished, we finished cleaning out the guest room yesterday and learned that the mattress in there is HEAVY. It's currently sitting in our front room...classy. Dog is loving it. So now we just have our room (just the bed and our nightstands left) and I need to move a few things in the guest room closet. The end is in sight!

Also, I sent the Vera cosmetic bag back to the Disney Store. Sadness!

Cleveland Mini Marathon Update: So the update here is...it's no longer the Cleveland Mini Marathon. I got an email today that not only is the mini (a 3.5-mile race) being changed to a 5K, they are also adding a RNR Cleveland 10K. I'm a little perturbed only because this is the second year they have made a major change to this race weekend AFTER registration opened. Last year they changed the race date form Saturday to Sunday pretty late in the game, and some people couldn't actually race. In this case, I would have been upset if I'd paid for some other race and ended up really wanting to do the 10K, and lost money on the switch. Doesn't matter for me this year luckily since I'll be running the 5K with little cousin.

This will be the second year of RNR Cleveland and I'm hoping after this year they'll finally have all of the details nailed down. Overall I'm happy to have another 10K option here for the future.

Thursday, July 17: Run #3 (7x400 @ 5K pace planned…3.8 miles completed)

Big day today - last day of school for Will! After today (1 final exam, 1 quiz and 1 presentation) he will be 40% of the way done with his master's classes. :) So proud of him!

I feel like I am crawling toward the finish this week. My weekend was pretty jam-packed with stuff and wasn't very relaxing at all, and I have been feeling sort of tense this week. I guess having stuff scattered through the house in continued preparation to get the upstairs cleared out is starting to get to me. Whenever I am stressed, it hits me in the stomach, so that hasn't been fun. :( And like an idiot, I've been going to bed too late, so by now it's really starting to catch up to me.

Despite that, the run felt good today. Actually, I think it gave me back some energy, so that was good. I felt like I was still getting warmed up for the first 2-3 intervals and possibly did one for 0.3 miles instead of 0.25 miles (oops), but the next couple felt great and I was thinking, "gee, I think I may be getting better at this!" I totally jinxed myself because the last one was definitely a struggle. But it's done! Just one more pre-cruise run.

Also, the Small World Dooney bags popped up on the Disney website today. I resisted the urge to buy one...clearly I am growing as a person.

**WW UPDATE**

I've had a weird little problem crop up lately...each day this week while driving home from work, I have found myself HUNGRY. How do I combat this hunger? By stopping at a gas station and getting a bag of Cheetos! :crazy2: Delicious...so delicious...but obviously not at all healthy. Between this new little habit of mine (which I intend to break TODAY) and the stomach/sleeping problems I mentioned above, I was not expecting greatness on the scale this morning. So I was very surprised to see that I actually lost 0.4 pounds this week. Whatever! I will take it! That puts me at almost 6 pounds lost over the past 2 months.

Last night at dinner, Will asked if I plan on counting points on the cruise (not like he was suggesting I should, just was curious). Without hesitation I responded with a firm NO. I plan on hitting the gym twice, running the Castaway Cay 5K and taking the stairs on the ship the entire time, but I have really been looking forward to the food and drinks a LOT. I’m hoping not to go crazy or anything, but it IS vacation, so I want to indulge a little bit. Despite that, I’m really not looking forward to that first post-cruise weigh-in when I get home - in September I sailed this same itinerary and somehow managed to come home without gaining a pound, but I think it’s unrealistic to expect to get that lucky again. Whatever happens will only be temporary and once I settle back into normal life I’ll get back to it. That’s what the rational side of me says, anyway...the irrational side knows I’ll most likely freak out. Eek!

Friday, July 18: Run #4 (8-mile out-and-back)
Weather: 72 degrees and sunny

I remember how to start my Garmin properly for intervals today! Progress.

I stuck to the run 4 minutes/walk 1 minute formula again today. Someday I want to get back to run 2 miles/walk 1 minute for long runs, but for now the 4:1 strategy is definitely working for me. Maybe when the temperatures drop again I can get back to my usual routine. One thing I like about the intervals is that I can keep my watch set to a screen where I don't see how far I have gone or what my pace is...it makes the run go by faster and I find I’m more relaxed because I'm not freaking out about my pace.

At the halfway point I did check my pace and saw I was at about 10:47/mile - not bad! I did have to come to a complete stop though, for one very important reason - to check us in for our flights!!! :hyper: Unfortunately we were booked under 2 different confirmation numbers (I forget why I did this, must have booked one of us on points and the other on cash?) and we ended up with seats that are not next to each other. Boooooooo. I also had a Strawberry Honey Stinger Waffle here - yum!

I was totally stopped for no more than 2 minutes, but that seemed to be just enough time to sort of get out of rhythm. My legs felt a little stiff and a little heavy for the rest of the run (where during the first half I was feeling good and strong). Overall the run took me 1:26:44, 10:50/mile pace. So I did slow down a bit in the second half, BUT...I am still happy with this long run pace. I think I am right where I need to be for September's half. And I wore my new Raw Threads Elsa top for my run today...super cute and fits well, but definitely doesn’t breath quite as nicely as my other running tops. Oh well, the heat never bothered me anyway...teeeehehehehehe. Okay, that's a lie. But I still like the shirt.

Have fun on your cruise!

Nice training this week especially with having to change it up because of vacation.

That is super annoying about them changing races after the registration! That would annoy the heck out of me.

Good self control about returning one bag & not buying the Small World Dooney's ;)

Have a great time on your cruise, Shannon!

Sorry I haven't commented lately - had my daughter on June 24th and life has been crazy!

I can't wait to get back to running - only two more weeks until my doctor's appointment and hopefully he gives me the all clear!

Oh poo... I missed your send off!!! I hope you have been having an excellent time!

I am crossing my fingers for you that your luck will repeat and no weight gain will occur.

Sounds like last week your training went pretty well. Good for you! I know that right before a vacay it is hard to concentrate on anything but the upcoming vacay!
