In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Thanx everyone for the welcoming words of encouragement!!

Im trying to go day by day....today has been a good day....

Why is it though that when you are doing your best is the time when all the sabotagers come out of the woodwork?????

I have had so many home health agencies calling me (Im a nurse in an assisted living facility) wanting to bring me lunch from places like olive garden so they can try to get me to use their services at our facility....then theres my husband who wants to snack during all these pre season games....and oh friends who I havent seen in awhile are calling and wanting to go out to dinner....and theres my co workers (kitchen staff) who are bringing fresh made donuts to my office, and telling me lunch is not good w/out the gravy and oh I made these new 7 layer brownies..you gotta try one....ARGGGG!

Why do you not notice those things untill you are doing all you can to lose weight????

Today I have managed to avoid alot of those things....I took the gravy...on the side, and only dipped my fork in once....I had some pot roast, veggies, and maybe 3 bites of the mashed potatoes and only half a slice of the home made wheat bread...and yes I did take 2 bites of that 7 layer brownie....but I threw the rest away! Now that is progress.....and I am soooo overly stuffed now that I wont have dinner.

But I will drink lots of water!

I CAN do this, I Can do this, I CAN do this! I have to continue to repeat this everyday, all day...for now...hopefully soon I will develop good enough habits that it wont be a problem.

I hope everyone else is doing well today.

BTW, thanx for posting the link to the allears at large....reading some of the reviews makes me feel a little better...

Have a great day!

Afternoon everybody! The first 'game' of the season is on Saturday! What are you guys going to be making for healthy tailgate snacks?? I have to have SOMETHING while I watch the game!! :goodvibes

Yes, yes, yes. It seems that everytime Im on track someone wants to buy me chocolates, or cream buns! :rotfl:

And yes, you CAN do this - I think your attitude is great! Kicks my bummocks into gear!

Hope everyone is out having a great day! We've just had crazy thunder and lightning storms here, they came out of knowhere and went not long after, followed by a double rainbow!

At the minute im just sat eating a bowl of sliced pears and apples - not a big deal you might think, but what you dont know is that next to the fruit bowl there is a box of homemade chocolate chip cookies. And I ignored them! Big woohoo to me! :cool1:

The first NHL game doesn't start until early Oct, so I don't know of what you speak. ;)

But, I assume you are talking about football (American, for Kelly's benefit)? We don't really watch it, so that temptation at least isn't around...

Kelly, I don't know what cream buns are, but they sure sound good!!

Football to me is soccer (my favourite sport!) DH is looking forward to the American Football season starting (I just call it NFL, its easier :rotfl:), is that what starts soon?

Kelly, I don't know what cream buns are, but they sure sound good!!

Cream buns are the food of the devil, made by little angels! :rotfl:
My favourite are Cream Teas - its a scone, served with a little jar of jam and a little jar of clotted cream, and an individual pot of tea! Very British! :lmao:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dc6KjheJrtE/RsIHzqhe2fI/AAAAAAAAAyY/gCKmCcVEVK0/s400/Cream+Tea.

I took up knitting to stop snacking while watching football games. You can't eat if your hands are moving. How about some fresh veggies and some tzatziki sauce made with fat free greek yogurt? Greek yogurt is an excellent replacement for sour cream. Has all of the yummy flavor, lots of protein and you can eat 6 oz of it for about 120 calories? Just a thought...

Kelly - that cream tea sounds heavenly. I am going to go make myself a cup of tea right now. No sweets to go with it though... Great job on resisting the chocolate chip cookies... whoo hoo...

Thanks for all the words of encouragement!!! They do mean the world to me - truly. I am up in my head right now and struggle to let myself actually enjoy what is happening. I am thinking that it is some type of fear of failing and going back to my old ways that is holding me back but since I am not a professional in that area, who knows? I'll get there. Just another step in the journey I guess.

OK - off to make my lunch and then hold the couch down. My trainer kicked my bummocks but good tonight. We did a serious core workout and then he had this brilliant idea that we should do a spin session together so I did a 45 minute interval workout on the spin bike. My legs are now rubber and I am about to collapse from shear exhaustion.

Have a good night everyone...

I like the knitting idea. I was racing to complete a cross stitch Christmas stocking for my nephew a few years ago. I watched more TV in that month than I have in years. It did keep my hands busy. I'll have to find a picture of the stocking. I'm really proud of it.

We're going to be vacationing next week. Driving to Santa Fe. I'm excited about the food. Any goddess favorites?

Ronda

Argh!

Having uber annoying email & internet issues :headache: (and no, it's NOT just operator error this time ;))......off to catch up

Good Morning... (if you can call it that)

I am sooooo tired this morning. It was truly an effort getting out of bed and dragging my butt to work.

Off to go mainline some serious amounts of caffiene to wake myself up.

Make today a good one...

Ronda - safe travels on your vacation!!! Have fun in Santa Fe. (of course all I can think of know if the song Santa Fe from Rent...)

We will be busy here today!

Football starts for Baylor and Carsyn is heading out tom. with her Dad for Iowa for the weekend so need to make she is ready for school. Baylor is going camping with his friend and their family and they have tons of dirtbikes/4 wheelers etc so he will have a blast. Need to make sure he has his gear.

Taking a long walk by the river today with Ace. Tracking water today. I am not hydrating near enough at all.

Jodi is joining WW on Friday with me so that will be great support.

I have nada done for the wedding but I keep thinking, venue is taken care of, food is set, pastor locked, rooms booked, colors agreed to.

Dresses we won't get till spring and need to look at in Dec. Tuxes the same. Flowers will be simple. All I need to figure out is music and I might get a hold of the local high school orchestra /choir for help with that. With only a small group the big stuff is done and the few little things I have plenty of time for. Right? For once I am not pannicked and I feel like I should be.

What I am not "On" pace for is still my weight so I am picking that as my foccus. 9 months out and my goal for the wedding is 175. 2 pounds a week average. Achievable if I work my butt off and get all my teeth extracted.:rolleyes1

Hello,
Are you all still accepting newcomers? I am in desperate need of help and support.

First off my name is Joy. I am 33 and the mother of a wonderful little boy who will be 3 in December and the wife of a wonderful husband. I work full-time at a college as a professor and in the library. Most days I love my job, so I am pretty lucky.

On to my weight issues. :rolleyes1

Before I got pregnant with my DS my weight ranged between 140-165 pounds. 140 for me is really skinny and at 165 I was about a size 10/12. 165 was the weight my body liked to stay at but when I dieted I could get lower than that.

Having DS was a struggle and I worked with a fertility doctor. The hormones in the medication I was on caused me to gain weight quickly and then I got pregnant (:yay:) - by the end of my first trimester I was up to 190 pounds - most of that was gained prior to getting pregnant due to the medication.

When I came home from the hospital after having DS I was right around 200. Within a few months I dropped about 10 pounds and I was hovering at 190 for several months. Then last year I got pregnant unexpectedly but I lost the baby around 12-13 weeks pregnant. After the miscarriage I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted it and didn't weigh myself until last fall. I got up to 207 pounds.

I heard about a diet from a friend called Fat Loss for Idiots. I did it and lost 15 pounds getting back down to 192 pounds. I still had a long way to go but I was very happy. Then the holidays arrived and I stopped dieting and gained the weight back. :sad2:

This summer I got serious about losing the weight and joined weight watchers. I stuck to it pretty well most of the time but I never really lost much weight.

Last week I tried eating only salads and protein and I didn't lose any weight.

This AM I weighed in at 204.5 pounds and I am desperate to change my body forever. I know I need to pick a plan and stick with it. My DH is not really supportive, like he will say, "aren't you on a diet?" and then order a pizza and expect me to resist it. I need to get the strength to resist - I need a support system.

Sorry that was so long - I just wanted to put it all out there.

Just back from a fabulous bike ride. Still having technical issues with my computer, so my resident "Geek Squad" will have to work it out for me.

At the minute im just sat eating a bowl of sliced pears and apples - not a big deal you might think, but what you dont know is that next to the fruit bowl there is a box of homemade chocolate chip cookies. And I ignored them! Big woohoo to me! :cool1:

Good job Kelly! That's an impressive feat!

I took up knitting to stop snacking while watching football games. You can't eat if your hands are moving.

agreed! Currently working on another pair of felted mittens :lovestruc

Great suggestion Paula! How 'bout hummus. That's great with veggies or you could have just a few baked pita chips with it.

I am up in my head right now and struggle to let myself actually enjoy what is happening. I am thinking that it is some type of fear of failing and going back to my old ways that is holding me back but since I am not a professional in that area, who knows? I'll get there. Have fun! I've never been to New Mexico....can't wait to hear about it!

I am sooooo tired this morning. It was truly an effort getting out of bed and dragging my butt to work.

So - how many times have you cursed Jesse this morning? :rolleyes1

Have you still been getting any rides in outside?

We will be busy here today!

Enjoy your walk! And drink your water! I've forgotten - have you done WW before or is this your first time?

Hello,
Are you all still accepting newcomers? I am in desperate need of help and support.

First off my name is Joy.

Welcome Joy!!! We always accept newcomers. And sounds like you need a sounding board. We are in a slow period right now, but typically, we move fast and the only way to truly integrate is to jump right in. We offer support, constructive critisizm and good times.

Thanks for all the information.

So gald you found us here! Never feel bad about not being perfect and you are so right in the fact yyou need your head on right to make this a life change. Some of us have that mastered here and some of are still walking forward while facing backwards. :rolleyes1

I have done WW twice before for a very short time each. Last was last fall and after Baylor got hurt - I never went back. :sad2:

Thank you so much for the welcome ladies!!! :flower3: I am really excited about having some real accountability. I know I need that to finally succeed. Does anyone else feel like they self-sabotage when it comes to weight loss? I am so frustrated with myself. I want to lose weight almost more than anything else, but yet I keep cheating on every diet I try. I am so discouraged and I have no one to blame but myself. :sad2:

OK, I have a few questions:
- What diets/eating pland have people found success with?
- What is the general opinion on drinking diet soda? Should I try to quit my 3-4 diet soda a day habit?

I'm sure I'll think of more. :rotfl:

We are going to WDW in less than 2 weeks so I don't want to commit myself to a strict diet for the trip, but in the mean time I am going to start exercising again - walking and doing my Tae-Bo DVD at least 3 times a week. On Wednesdays I work from 7:30 AM - 9:00 PM so I can't exercise tonight, but I plan to doing Tae-Bo tomorrow for sure. :thumbsup2

Hi, Joy. Welcome. My name's Liz. I'm married with a 5 year old, and I'll be 35 on the 19th. I'm not on a lot, but I have been on this thread for almost 2 years. I lost 75lbs and kept 50lbs off.

Anyhoo.

I've had a great success with WW, but the best diet plan is the one that works for you. Really. I know it sounds stupid, but it's true.

As for diet soda, everyone else can give you their opinion. Mine is that this is life change, for life, so take baby steps. I drink diet soda, so to give it up is major. If you don't drink soda, or you can give up regular and not switch to diet, go for it. Maybe that's your first step. But don't make a ton of changes at once, because they won't stick. Is it better not to drink it? Sure. But lots of things are better and I can't do all of them at once. All or nothing, as everyone can tell you, is what sinks your battleship.

Be kind to yourself, and start small. That's my advice.

Hi Joy!! I'm Kat, 33, married with no kids. I lost 60 lbs in 2007-8 and have kept off 30 of it.

We are going to WDW a week from Thursday! Where are you staying? What are your plans?

I agree with Liz, don't try to give up everything at once. Most of us here do calorie counting and/or WW, although we have one JC success story as well.

FWIW, I drink diet soda and coffee and have never given either up. I do try to drink 64 oz of plain water, though.

We offer support, constructive critisizm and good times.

yep. What Lyz said. with just a *sprinkling* of crazy

I have done WW twice before for a very short time each. Last was last fall and after Baylor got hurt - I never went back. :sad2:
(in my best Bullwinkle Moose voice)....This time FOR SURE:rotfl2:

Welcome Joy! I'm Nancy, I'm 43, married, 3 kids (eldest just left for college last week :sad1:). I lost 45 lbs on WW oh about 10 years ago, and have managed to keep most of it off. My current weight is just a *tad* higher than I prefer, and it's a constant struggle for me to keep from rocketing skyward with my weight. I love to exercise, but I also love to eat. Thus my issue.

As others have said, we all have our own ways - everything is so individual. Sorry, no "one plan fits all" exists. I prefer to EAT my calories rather than drink them so my primary beverage is water....(and wine. but we won't go there right now....) Like Kat, I try to get a minimum of 64oz a day.

I agree 100% with Liz. This is a lifestyle that we're dealing with here. Not a quick fix. So small changes in your daily habits can make a huge difference over time. One thing that I've found to be most valuable is journalling. Just being completely, brutally honest about every morsel that I put in my mouth. Looking at that page at the end of the day can be quite enlightening....and can really help to pin-point some bad habits that you may not even be aware of!

Hi Nancy! Congrats on losing weight and keeping it off! :thumbsup2 I love to eat too, so that is also my number 1 problem. Journaling is a great idea - I think I may start that ASAP. Accountability is definitely my greatest struggle and I think you're right that journaling will help with that. :goodvibes

You guys are such a welcoming group!! Thanks so much!!! I have been thinking about all the things you guys have said and I have set some first goals for myself:

- Limit my diet soda consumption to 2 a day
- drink at least 64 ounces of water a day
- limit sweets to special occasions
- limit fast food to once a week

I am going to give Weight Watchers another try and really stick to it this time. I like Weight Watchers because it really is a healthy way of eating.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone. :goodvibes

Welcome!!!!

My name's Cathie. I'm 23 (24 in Oct, scary how the time is going by), and live in CO. I'm on weight watchers and so far haven't lost much weight but have made a lot of changes in my life that are causing me to feel healthier, just waiting for the scale to show it :)

I am also over the 200 pound mark, and like you, it crept up slowly through pregnancies, and eating whatever I wanted and well, just not really ever caring or doing anything about it! It's hard to make that committment but I've found that just committing to yourself that you're going to TRY, or at least that you're going to CARE makes a big difference for me.

I love this board, and am still fairly new here, but the ladies here are incredibly supportive. And not even just on your weight loss, I have griped about other things here and gotten the support I needed. In my opinion, you couldn't be in a better place.

So gald you found us here! Never feel bad about not being perfect and you are so right in the fact yyou need your head on right to make this a life change. Some of us have that mastered here and some of are still walking forward while facing backwards. :rolleyes1

I leave for WDW next Friday and I have finally conceited that I will likely not be able to stick to my weight watchers plan. I HAVE, however, made a few commitments to myself:

Water or tea with all my meals.
No french fries unless it's at counter service.
Use at least half of my snack credits (we're on the DDP) for fruit
If I'm full, STOP. Even if it means foregoing the dessert. ( I think I'll find myself stopping on the meal much earlier so I can find room for dessert hehe)
