In Every Run That Must Be Done; There is an Element of Fun (comments welcome)

Wow, this must be an important houseguest if you are dealing with any level of cigarette smoke in the house. I definitely would not tolerate that. I hope things return to normal for you soon.
It’s my aunt, who wasn’t able to come for Christmas. My grandma can’t really say no to having one of her kids for a visit, no matter how much of a PITA it is to have them. Thankfully, she went home this morning 🥳🥳

Princess Half Training: Day 130

Freedom!! Normalcy!! Fresh air!! 🥳🥳

Yeah, so our houseguest left this morning, and hopefully won’t return until the next major holiday.

My grandparents and I watched Encanto tonight, and it was great. Then I did a bunch of stretching. Tomorrow is a 5K virtual run, which will sadly be done on the treadmill due to frigid temps. But it looks like Saturday’s 10 mile run will be chilly, but doable—assuming we don’t get snow to mess up the neighborhood roads.

Princess Half Training: Day 131

Another treadmill run tonight. I’m ready for this deep freeze to end so I can go outside again. It looks like it might flurry tomorrow night, I’m hoping it decides not to, because I really really want to run my 10 miles outside.

Anyway, I did 3.1 miles for the virtual Yukon challenge, a free extension of the race I did on Saturday. I don’t get any additional swag or anything, but I can enter my time on the results page, so I figured I might as well do it.

Princess Half Training: Day 132

3 rounds of 20 second yoga tonight. I’m not sure what my run tomorrow is going to be like because it just had to snow this evening 🙄🙄 It’s not very much snow, but I’m not sure how the traction will be. And right now, it’s crazy windy and blowing the snow all over the place.

Princess Half Training: Day 133

I didn’t freeze, and I didn’t fall on my *** either, so we’ll call it a win for today. But I’m not doing any more super cold runs, it just wasn’t very fun. I did alright in my direct neighborhood, but the other neighborhood I was running in didn’t get very clear, so the footing was more precarious. Somewhere around the 8 mile mark, my left knee and hip started giving me pain during walk breaks, so I started skipping walk breaks. Eventually though, I had to just walk (hobble) through the snowy parts, and wait until I got back to clearer roads for running. All in all, I’m really happy with how the run went (except for the pain (which is gone now) and the cold). I will admit to saying a number of not-Disney-friendly words during the more painful parts.

It was really pretty to start with, but then it got cloudy. And then it started throwing flakes at me as I walked home after I finished the run.

Princess Half Training: Day 134

I am feeling 100% after my run yesterday. I spent 45 minutes shoveling the driveway today (usually my grandpa’s job, but I talked him into letting me do it), had lunch, and then did my 30 minutes (8.42 miles) on the bike. I started watching Ratatouille, which I only saw once, back when it was in theatres. I recall not liking it, but I don’t remember why. I’ve enjoyed the ride at Epcot, so I thought it was important to give the movie another chance, especially with it being the theme for the Springtime Surprise 10K.

This is the last week before my mileage starts going down heading into Princess Weekend. It’s going to be weird having more free time. And I haven’t figured out exactly what I’ll be doing as a schedule between Princess and Springtime.

Princess Half Training: Day 135

I did a little bit of shoveling today (I still needed to do the patio, but it takes the same amount of time whether there’s 1 inch or 5, so I just let all the weekend snow accumulate). And tonight I decided to do 2 rounds of barre instead of yoga because my right arm is having some tennis elbow trouble or something and I didn’t think I should be supporting my weight on it.

I love the Springtime Surprise medals, and I’m super excited to add them to my collection. I’m also excited for Princess Weekend and visiting somewhere less dry than MN—I’m so tired of getting shocked every time I touch something ⚡😵

Princess Half Training: Day 136

I ran outside after work today. I might be certifiably insane 😆🤪🥶
642008

I don’t know exactly why I decided to run outside, but I did. I didn’t quite get the full hour on my schedule, but I didn’t really feel like doing a little bit of a second loop and then turning around, so I just stopped when I got back to my house. If all the road would get plowed equally, I would’ve done a bigger loop, but I didn’t like running on the less-plowed road on Saturday, and I doubted it would have improved with the additional snow since then.

The run felt good, and look how consistent it turned out to be! I never check my pace while I run, I’d get too distracted thinking “oh, I need to go faster/slower/whatever”; so it’s always a bit of a surprise to see how I did afterward.

Thursday’s run will not be outside, as much as I might like it to be. My light is good for making me visible to cars, and letting me see where I’m running on a clear road, but I’m not ready to try it in potentially icy conditions. Boo to ice and boo to treadmills!

Princess Half Training: Day 137

2 rounds of yoga tonight. I added in a few new poses, and they seemed to fit into the routine well.

Not much else is going on, just waiting on the event guide for Princess Weekend, and Friday is my ADR morning for Springtime Surprise, so that’ll be fun.

Princess Half Training: Day 138

I hate running on the treadmill! But I’m not about to run on potentially icy road with just my chest light to keep me safe, so I didn’t have a lot of choices. I had a a little foot pain that turned out to be a wrinkle in my sock, so I had to pause and fix that in mile 3, and then I had some knee pain and had to do more walking in mile 6, but I finished strong.

Saturday afternoon looks good for my long run, so that will be exciting (well, as exciting as running loops in your neighborhood can be 😆). I came up with a brilliant (in my opinion, anyway) costume for the Springtime Surprise 10K, but I’m keeping it a secret 🤫🤫🤫

Princess Half Training: Day 139

Today was ADR day for Springtime Surprise, so I was really tired tonight. But I got the ADRs I wanted 🥳 Just 2 rounds of yoga to close my rings.

The weather still looks good to go out for my run tomorrow without freezing too badly.

Princess Half Training: Day 140

So, lessons learned today: don’t eat very expired microwave popcorn, and always make sure you’ve properly unpaused your watch before you start running again after a break. I lost at least 10 minutes and most of a mile at the end, so that was super annoying.

It was warmer today than last weekend, but the wind was a little higher, and blew right in my face at times. I varied my route a little today, doing a big loop, followed by a couple smaller loops. I didn’t end up with the full 11.5 miles that I had on my schedule, but once I figured out my screw up with my watch, I decided to just end the run once I got back to my house, since I had no way of accurately figuring out how much more I needed to run.

I’m including these screenshots despite the fact that the totals are wrong.

Princess Half Training: Day 141

I went for a 2.3 mile walk today, the first half-ish was with my grandpa, and the second half was by myself because he bailed when we got back to the house. Then I did 46 minutes (12.43 miles) on the stationary bike and watched the new episode of Book of Boba Fett.

I’ll probably be doing some more walking tomorrow, the January challenge on my Apple Watch wants me to get 153.1 miles (including daily activities) and I’m still about 5 miles short. I’m ready for spring and summer to come back so I can get some random mileage feeding my chipmunks. I could try feeding squirrels in the winter, but they’re bigger troublemakers than chipmunks and I don’t really want to encourage them to be pests. Also, with all the snow in the yard, I wouldn’t really be gaining any mileage walking 10 steps out the patio door 😆

Bonus picture of one of our squirrels who lost half their tail.

Princess Half Training: Day 142

Instead of yoga today, I walked 3.54 miles on the treadmill (because the wind was nasty and walking doesn’t warm me up enough to handle doing it outside—also, I got to watch the second episode of Yellowjackets) in order to finish up my January challenge on my watch.

Today was also the first day of Operation Wake-Up, the process of gradually changing my wake-up time to earlier in the morning so the obscenely early rD mornings slightly less painful, since I’m used to getting up about 5 minutes before work starts at 8 am. So my alarms this week will be going off an hour earlier than usual. If I have projects to work on for work, I can start working early, and either end my day earlier, or log some overtime (for certain projects). And if I don’t have any work to do, I can just chill and watch tv or something. Today, I really didn’t get out of bed until my normal time, but I was awake and functional for the whole extra hour.

We had a really pretty sunset tonight.

Smart! There’s a girl I follow on Instagram who gets up around 4:30/5 am every day and seemed fine with sleep during Dopey.., some nights I don’t even go to bed until 3 or 4 am!

Beautiful picture!

Princess Half Training: Day 143

I had to run on the treadmill today. The wind was howling (🎶“like this swirling storm inside”🎶) from the time I opened my eyes at 20 of 7 all the way through the day, so there was no way I was going out there.

I really didn’t want to do this run, I was tired, and I just couldn’t get excited for it. But I did it, and it’s over with, so there. I wore the wrong shoes when I walked on the treadmill yesterday, and I had a couple tender spots start bothering me as I got further into the run. And I should’ve turned on the fan, but I forgot, and we’ve lost it’s remote, so I would’ve had to pause everything to deal with it and it just wasn’t worth it.

Princess Half Training: Day 144

Just enough yoga tonight to close my Watch rings. The altered sleep schedule and boring work projects are making me tired. I did manage to find enough energy to put clean clothes away, which have been piling up since I got back from my last Disney trip (putting clothes away is a thing I have a problem with).

Yay for having a good run! 🥳🥳

Today’s 45 minute run on the treadmill was so much better than Tuesday’s!! And not just because I got to watch the new episode of Book of Boba Fett, though that was a bonus.

And then after my run I sit down and find out that rD finally posted the event guide for Princess Weekend, and all is right with the world! It’s very exciting to be able to look at the maps and zoom in and visualize where I’ll be running. Only 3 weeks left!!!

Princess Half Training: Days 146 & 147

I forgot to post last night because I was absolutely exhausted. I did my yoga and watched the Olympics opening ceremony. Seeing some of the outfits of the warm-weather countries adapted to winter wear (except for American Samoa, that guy was crazy) reminded me of the rule of Midwest Halloweens: always make sure you can fit a snowsuit under the costume.

Anyway, today was an 8 mile run and I thought I was going to have to do it on the treadmill because the wind was crazy when I got up, and it was still in the low single digits. But I checked the hourly forecast and saw that the wind was supposed to drop a bit and the temp was supposed to climb, so I decided to wait until about 3 to go out. The wind didn’t get end up getting much better, but the temp got up to 20, and that was good enough to run in.

The run felt good, and at the end, I felt like I could’ve gone further. I’m really happy with the pacing and the splits.

Also, I got a surprise package today (originally delivered to completely the wrong address—the FedEx drivers on our route are the absolute worst). It was a Valentine’s gift from my boss and the mail center crew at my company (I’m in Bus. Ops. and my boss is also the boss of the mail center crew). I’m totally going to use this as a carry-on for my race gear; I don’t care if it’s a kids’ suitcase 😆😆
