In Every Run That Must Be Done; There is an Element of Fun (comments welcome)

Did you run on the indoor track while testing your costumes? Just wondering about the curious looks you got! :rotfl2:
I did wear the Merida and Cinderella skirts on the track. I think one older lady might’ve said something as I ran by once, but I had my headphones in and couldn’t hear it. I was mostly just focused on slogging through the boredom.

I did do the Snow White tutu run at home on the treadmill, I figured that would be a bit much for public running outside of a race.

Princess Half Training: Day 120

My thighs have requested to be transplanted onto someone who is not a runner, in light of the abuse they’ve suffered over the last 3 days 😆😆

Yeah, so I’m still sore. I can walk alright, once I manage to stand up and take a couple steps and get the momentum going. Going up my stairs is pretty much no problem, but going back down is…an experience, to say the least. But everything is just aches, so I know it’ll go away in a day or two.

I had no problem doing a half hour on the bike (and at the same pace I did last week!), or doing 25 minutes of stretching, so that was awesome. I’ll be doing just half hour runs Tuesday and Thursday this week, and my 5 Miler race on Saturday morning. The weather for that is still looking ok, though I wouldn’t mind the slightly warmer temps of Thursday and Friday getting pushed into Saturday a bit.

Princess Half Training: Day 121

Just some yoga tonight. My legs are still a bit sore, but much improved from yesterday. I didn’t get enough sleep last night, so I’m feeling a little out of it. Before Princess Weekend, I will be gradually moving my sleeping time a bit earlier so the super-early race day wake-ups aren’t quite so jarring. I know I have problems getting to sleep earlier than usual, and more problems getting up early, so I need to prepare.

Princess Half Training: Day 122

I’m almost back to 100%. My run on the treadmill felt great. I did the first mile with longer walking intervals to make sure I was feeling good, and then went back to my usual treadmill intervals of .05mi walk/.1mi run. I had only planned on doing a half hour, but decided to keep going until my move ring closed.

Saturday’s weather is still looking decent enough for the Yukon Challenge 5 Miler. I just hope they do a good job clearing the snow off the road.

And oh joy! We have a relative coming to visit this weekend and staying a few days beyond it. Just what I was hoping for for my long weekend! 🙄😡🤬

Princess Half Training: Day 123

I did a couple rounds of my easiest dumbbell workout tonight after we got home from seeing Come From Away at the Orpheum (it was very good). And I got an email from UPS that I should be getting a 5lb package from Disney Destinations Marketing, so it must be my Wine & Dine virtual challenge swag!! It’s about darn time!!

We had a new critter come to visit our yard today! I’m not sure why it was awake during the day, and it didn’t seem terribly happy about trudging through the snow. But it was very happy to find all the spilled seed and hung out there eating for most of an hour. I threw a few too-squishy-for-human-consumption oranges out into the woods for the critters to enjoy, I hope the opossum finds one.

Princess Half Training: Day 124

Holy cow, what a difference running outside makes!! I decided to dash out on my lunch break today while it was nice, and before the snow comes tomorrow. I blew my previous fastest mile out of the water, and I wasn’t even trying! My new fastest mile is 11m46s, previous was 12m15s. I also set a new fastest overall pace with 11m56s, previous was 12m57s.

I think I could’ve gone even faster, I didn’t feel like I was pushing or struggling or anything during the run intervals, and I wasn’t being particularly speedy during the walking intervals either.

Just shoveling and a bit of yoga today. If I don’t post an update tomorrow, it’s because I froze to death for the sake of a Yukon Cornelius medal 😆🥶😆

Someone remind why I live where the air hurts my face, and decided it was a good idea to do a race in the middle of freaking January??

I didn’t freeze to death! It was a close thing though, waiting at the start for about 15 minutes, and it didn’t get much warmer by the time I was finished 🥶🥶

The course was sort of U-shaped (or really, W-shaped, since it was out and back). I wasn’t a huge fan of the hills, but I survived. They had the course plowed fairly well, with only a couple tricky spots with thicker snow. I actually did more continuous running than I’ve ever done before, but at a much slower pace than I usually run. I didn’t bring my headphones with, so I didn’t have intervals running. Most of my walking came on the uphills.

There weren’t many opportunities for nice pictures, but I did catch this shot of the Weisman Art Museum across the Mississippi.

I got to meet Yukon Cornelius! I wish someone had mentioned that my medal was on backwards 😆

My official finishing details. There were a bunch of people who registered, but didn’t show up, so I edited the total number of runners to reflect the actual number of finishers.

Congratulations! You built a lot of character in that race with those temperatures! :rotfl2:

Princess Half Training: Day 127

I’m feeling totally fine after the race yesterday. I started my day playing with my cousin’s very active 5 year old, and then I made my grandpa actually follow his doctor’s orders for a change and get out for a walk. We walked 3 and a quarter miles in an hour and ten minutes, and I have a new option for a running route near the neighborhood.

Then I played with the 5 year old again, and after he went home, I did my half hour (actually 32m25s) on the bike and went 8.9 miles, for a new fastest pace 😱

Princess Half Training: Day 128

Bored…bored…bored!!! We still have a houseguest, and so everything is just…stuck. I had a whole day off today and got nothing done because I feel weird doing stuff with a guest in the house when they’re not doing anything. My grandpa was so bored, he voluntarily decided to go for a walk right before dinner, so I took the opportunity to go along, and we did a mile and quarter. Then I escaped again after dinner to do 3 rounds of 20 second yoga.

Princess Half Training: Day 129

Back to working today, so at least I wasn’t sitting around doing nothing with the houseguest, but I couldn’t go upstairs as often as I usually do on a workday because it’s getting harder for me to breathe up there (the houseguest is a smoker—they go out to the garage, but bring the smell back in, and it’s killing me). Anyway, the weather around midday was beautiful, and I really wished I could’ve gone outside for my run, but the schedule says an hour today, and taking almost 2 hours for lunch seemed a bit excessive. By the time I was off work, it was super windy, so an outdoor run was out of the question.

Anyway, I got on the treadmill and got going. I tried to do longer run intervals to practice for crowded points in races where I can’t safely slow to a walk whenever I want, and it went pretty well.

Wow, this must be an important houseguest if you are dealing with any level of cigarette smoke in the house. I definitely would not tolerate that. I hope things return to normal for you soon.
