In and Out in a Day

Robin- my AC has not been off in almost 3 weeks :furious: and I hate AC. WE think a tornado touched down in Tolland/ Windham counties yesterday, but so far no confirmation. There are pics of funnel clouds though. You know Buddy is an old farmer, and he watches cloud formations to warn him about weather. He had told me that if you ever see "horse tails" hanging down from clouds, that was not good. I was heading East and the looking at the sky there were these swirling tails all streaming towards the ground. That was about the time the storm was ravaging the Eastern portion of our State. I know that there is no comparison to the storms that the Plains States get or those folks smack dab in Tornado Alley, but they are big for us.

I don't know if we just never heard about all of the tornadic activity, but I cannot remember these kinds of storms occurring so often. We have one more day of severe storms and hopefully they will be done with us for a while. Selfishly, I hope it is over. Buddy was telling me that the field he has been babysitting was starting to look much better, and the one that was okay is now flooded. Again.

The Governor has released disaster assistance for farmers who have been affected by the freakish weather, but I don't think we really qualify. We treat of crop in a pattern, but I did not need to reset.....there were no more plants for that.....Buddy has cultivated like crazy, but I cannot quantify that cost of fuel....our labor is higher, but I really don't know how much....so I tossed the application. It is what it is. I figure that if it makes it, we are good. If not, :confused3. The guys whose livelihood relys on the money should get it and we will take our chances.

I wonder how Lauren is. Her State got walloped yesterday. Tornados there as well as heavy rain.

Good morning ladies!

I hope everyone survived the bad weather. The strange weather patterns lately are making me quite nervous about this hurricane season. I have a full freezer, guess I'd better start using stuff in case we have to evacuate.:worried:

WFD - Roman chicken, oven roasted garlic potatoes and corn.

.

I sure do understand! Hopefully all the storms will have petered out and you all will breeze through it. I have to say that the weather is strange in our neck of th woods.

Thank y'all for the birthday wishes! I actually had the day from hell at work but I came home to a surprise from Johnny, he knows I've been craving Dungeness crab and he had gotten me some with champagne...I was in heaven.:cloud9:

Ellen - I do admire you so much for the work you do in Panama. You are a very special woman.

Oh sweetie, I am so glad your day once you got home was good.
Thanks so much, we really do receive way more than we give. The people are just most amazing........I've said it before - they have nothing but are some of the happiest people I know. Again Thanks!!

Robin ~ I have no idea how you can exist with no air conditioning. There is NO way that would ever happen here. The saying here is "If Momma is hot get her cool quick". Yea, I am not a nice person when I get hot. :furious: I have very curly hair and this humidity is a killer for it. Over the weekend I got my "Panama haircut". It is short, but necessary as there will be no blow dryer, let alone some days no shower, so the streams will be our showers.

Nan ~ Shame on Marisa for laughing - :rotfl2: :lmao: sorry but I know my girls would have to.
I have been so worried about you and your crazy weather. I saw on the news last night that you all were getting it again. I agree about the crops, we do a LOT of praying this time of year. One golfball size hail storm will wipe the crops out in minutes. And at this point it is too late to replant. Please take care!!

Beautiful day out today. I really wish I was out enjoying it instead of stuck in this office. I have so much to do tonight (Doug is golfing, so I have the house to myself) that I probably won't even go for a walk. I really do have to get packed as we leave tomorrow for a weekend with the Grandbabies - I can't wait! This time next week we will be boarding the plane to Atlanta and then on to Panama City. Oh my!!

WFDT ~ grilled chicken breast over garden fresh romaine lettuce (our neighbor gave it to us last night).

Make it a great day!

Ellen- I am almost embarrassed to complain about the weather. It is tame when compared to other areas of the Country. Buddy is out fertilizing right now, and it is hot. He said the labor bill for the guys who hoe is going to be high, and he is right! One of them got sick on Sunday, and that was unusual. These two men work outdoors all day, every day, and are from Jamaica. They are used to hot hazy humid days, so when I heard that Denroy was ill, I knew it was bad. It is taking them a lot longer to get the work completed, you just cannot work the same way in this heat. Oh well, maybe it will break if we get those storms this afternoon.

I have been cleaning cabinets, but I have no work ethic today. We are going out for Marisa's birthday to Max Burger. My niece is there so I cannot wait! Buddy is getting the leftover $1 burgers from yesterday becasue I am still annoyed with him.

Our weather is crazy here. Another tornado went through our State, this time in the Eastern section. The storm's edges hit Hartford just as Joannie and I were heading home, roads were closed due to flooding, and traffic on Interstate 91 was kind of stopped all the way to the Windsor Locks line.

I have kady this evening. Buddy would nto hear that she was alone for 20 minutes, so he picked her up and they were waiting when I got home. We had Mickey D's for dinner. I love fast food but we almost never have it so it was good!

See you all tomorrow!

Ugh. Your weather really has been crazy lately. I don't think it's selfish to wish for bad weather to end. If it is, I'm very selfish. :rolleyes1

I remember a few years back there were some tornadoes in Brooklyn. I think one was an F0 and the other an F1. Even an F0 is some bad weather.

The streets here were flooding a bit today. Someone from work posted on FB that they were stranded at a gas station waiting it out because they couldn't get into their neighborhood. At least now I know my new weather alert radio works. And I am just sitting at home, so coffee weather it is!

I like fast food, but I don't know what is going on with McDonald's lately. Their burgers have always been pretty mediocre, but the last time I had one, I swear they dropped the meat patty in salt. I couldn't even eat it. We did just get a Five Guys. I got stuck in a right turn only lane and couldn't get over, and so I had to turn. Surprise, turned right into the brand-new Five Guys that I didn't know existed. :rotfl:

I hope your knee feels better.

Good morning ladies!

Don't say the e word. :headache: My freezer is full too.

/
Kathy- we also keep a full freezer in the basement. "Fortunately" most of our power outages come in the winter so it does by us some more time.

Ellen- I grew up without ac so it's what I'm used to, not that I mind being in places with it! Because we are so close to the ocean (about 2 miles) we stay much cooler that areas inland and we almost always have a nice breeze. There are really only a few days each summer where we really could use it.

I have chicken thawing in the fridge, I'll do something with it for dinner. Have a great day.

Doing a quick flyby today. My niece and her family are here from Ca, and they are celebrating Anthony's 40th birthday with an old fashioned New England clam bake :goodvibes I am so excited! I saw Amy last Christmas, but I miss her terribly, and her little boy too!

So, I baked a brownie cookie bar (from a box) and it is still hot, so I guess my dawdling will have consequences.

Ill be back later tonight or tomorrow, but I hope that you all have a great weekend!

Just catching up on your news.

Hope that everyone is okay and that your weather isn't too bad for the rest of the season.

Nancy - Hope everyone is safe.

Robin - I grew up without AC as well whilst living in a hot and humid tropical country. I look back on those days and wonder how I ever survived! :rotfl:

Ellen - Enjoy Atlanta and Panama City. I've never been to either so I hope you'll let us know how you liked it!

After hitting the market yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon cooking. So, we have big batches of bolognaise sauce, cauliflower soup and pumpkin soup for the rest of the week. And dinner last night was seafood risotto. I think I'm starting to get back into the groove of cooking.

Have a great weekend all.

Afternoon everyone, quick flyby for me - sorry.

Well I am down to 3 days till we leave for Panama. I am all but packed, just the last minute things that will go in the day we leave. Doug not so much!! That man!!! Plus he just came into the office and said he had to golf for League tonight. I just gave him my stern look and he said, "I know, I know. I will be home right after I am finished and I WILL be packed before I go to bed tonight." Yea, we will see if that happens.

We had a blast over the weekend. We had all 3 grandbabies from Friday night to yesterday afternoon. Oh my 2 - 1 year olds are VERY busy. Plus they both were up each morning before 6am. We had so much fun and just played ALL day. But if I was truthful with you all - I was pooped. I was in bed before 10 last night. Oh the fun we had though!!

WFDT ~ Clean out the fridge. There is some leftover pizza from this weekend, and a few other leftovers.

Make it a great day all.

Hi y'all!

Ellen - Sounds like you had a great weekend with the babies, how sweet that must be!:goodvibes Wishing you safe travels, my friend!

PIO - Sounds like you did some good cooking! Seafood risotto sounds so good right now.

Nan - Hope you enjoyed visiting with you niece and her family. Clambake sounds good right now too....I must be hungry!!:rotfl:

We went out for dinner Saturday to celebrate my birthday. We went to John Besh's Domenica. It's probably my favorite restaurant in the city, everything was excellent!

I did a grilled romaine salad with a bacon and blue cheese vinaigrette last night that was deeelicious. Cooked a pot of white beans today and will grill some sausages later.

I'm going to have a really busy week this week but will pop in when I can!

Ellen- I sure am going to miss you while you are in Panama :grouphug: Make sure you get the grandbaby fix as much as possible before you go! Buddy has voice mail messages on his phone that he saves so he can listen to them when he misses his girls. Two are at te beach right now so those messages are playing more often now!

Seriously, you stay safe while you are away!

Kat- I am totally jealous of your dining opportunities in the Big Easy! I stalk all of those super chefs on TV and then you and Sheryl talk about their restaurants, and I drool. But I also feel like I have a little bit of an "in" because you get to eat there! I am so glad you birthday was amazing!

Well it is too quiet here! Welby has the girls at the beach so I cannot hear laughing and giggles and bicycle wheels cruising down the street. I told her that next time she needs to record them and have them play sporadically, the neighbors are all having separation anxiety.

Well, BBL!

I cannot wait for September, this crazy merry-go-round will stop. :scared: Busy, busy as usual.

Happy Belated Birthday, Kat!

Went to the ortho today and have my final results. In my right knee I have severe osteoarthritis and the meniscus is shredded. He said they could do surgery but it would just be clean up, said it would be like peeing in the ocean, not much help :rotfl: I also have a ganglion cyst but it is really small and not bothering anything right now.

The left knee has slight osteoarthritis and minor tear in the meniscus. He said it might need surgery but can be managed in other ways right now which can include PT, shots and the ever present suggestion of losing weight.

I decided to try the shots first. It is a series of 3, one a week for three weeks. I know someone who had them and she said they worked great.

I am also going to do the PT myself. I have a list of all of the exercises the therapist had me do and am going to do them rather than pay $60 a week to basically do them on my own anyway. And I have been doing them somewhat, it does help, I just need to do all of them not just randomly do some of them. :thumbsup2

Nan - Y'all need to get your butts down here and we will hit all of our favorite spots with you!!! I would love for y'all to come down.:thumbsup2

Marilyn - I'll be praying the shots and the PT will work and hopefully give you some relief. I don't blame you for doing the exercises on your own. Besides saving money you can do them when it's convenient for you.

Ellen - Safe travels and it sounds like you had fun with the grandbabies!

Kat - WHEN I make it to the BigEasy, I know who I'll be tapping on the shoulder for dining tips. I just have to figure out which year. ;)

Marilyn - Here's hoping that you get the best relief for your knee. :grouphug:

So I'm home in bed right now. I made it all the way into work and lasted all of 2 hours. Sore throat and even sorer head. Gonna lie down and try to get more sleep in a bit.

PIO- I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I hate sore throats. I would never tell my mom because she would make me gargle with salt water.

Marilyn- my friend has had a lot if luck with the series of injections. He only has one leg so he really puts a lot more weight on his knee than the average person.

Kathy- I'm glad you had a nice dinner. I only know of John Besh from being a guest on Simply Ming on PBS and he always comes across as a really good person.

Nancy- we could use some of that quite here! It's getting noisy by us.

Ellen- what a fun weekend!

I need to get going, have a great day all.

Marilyn- I feel so badly for you! Marisa has issues with her knees, and before her surgeries, the pain was nearly unbearable. I pray that the therapy you are doing, along with the shots will alleviate your pain.

Now as to your busy season...............we have been chatting here for years, and so far, you have not had a down season...........:lmao:

Nan - Y'all need to get your butts down here and we will hit all of our favorite spots with you!!! I would love for y'all to come down.:thumbsup2

Marisa and I talk about it all of the time!

So I'm home in bed right now. I made it all the way into work and lasted all of 2 hours. Sore throat and even sorer head. Gonna lie down and try to get more sleep in a bit.

I knew it! You got run down with all of the work you were doing for your successful project launch. Please take it easy and make sure you are well before you return to work :grouphug:

PIO- I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I hate sore throats. I would never tell my mom because she would make me gargle with salt water.

Nancy- we could use some of that quite here! It's getting noisy by us.

My Mom did the same thing! And that is Buddy's go-to response, except he also insists the original Listerine is almost as good :scared: He cannot understand that I cannot gargle, I will absolutely choke! And even if I could, Listerine???????????????? YUCH!

I bet is is getting noisy in your neck of the woods :lmao: We will be traveling your way for a weekend the first weekend in August. Deb is participating once again in the Pan-Mass Challenge so Marisa Kady and I will be there to cheer her on! The Challenge begins in Sturbridge, and breaks for the night in Hyannis. Sunday morning they travel on to P-town. Deb booked our room after the disaster of a motel my sister booked last year. We should have known that it was not going to be good when we saw the advertisement "Cuddles and Bubbles" on the billboard. Our room was quiet, but Deb told me that they got one heck of an education in their room :rolleyes1. All night long.
Soooooooooooooo she decided that she would take care of reservations after that dreadful place ;)

Are you on the route?

PIO - I'll be happy to help with dining tips when you plan a trip down here! I hope you feel better after getting some rest. Take it easy!!!

Robyn - John Besh is one of the friendliest, most down to earth chefs around. He has 7 restaurants here and I've been to 5 of them. I can honestly say I enjoy his restaurants more than Emeril's!!

WFD - Whole roasted garlic lemon chicken, pasta and grilled asparagus.
