In and Out in a Day

PIO- I almost became a widow five years ago when I was only 27. Mundane is my goal in life. The simple life I have, with my husband, is better than anything I could have imagined.

Bethany- hi!

Boston is going to sleep well tonight. I'm about two hours from Boston and there were police everywhere. It will be over soon.

I'm so glad that it was "almost".

I hope it will be over soon. I have CNN in the background and just heard that the suspect is in custody!!!

Boston will sleep well tonight!

Woohoo!! party: SOOOO glad they caught that monster!!

I hope Boston has a safe and joyous celebration tonight before a GOOD night of sleep!

:wave2: Hi!

That's scary about your husband. So glad he is okay.

Morning Girlies,

I agree mundane is good!!

Robin ~ Prayers were answered 5 years ago. I know you never take it for granted. Bless you.

We are in the middle of a thunderstorm as I type. Doug just called me and thought maybe we came to town a bit too early. It was almost pitch dark out. The street lights even came on again. And now we are getting the rain. And lots of it - liquid gold. But of course now all of the farmers are getting a bit anxious to get the crops in. We only have 5% of the corn planted. We are never happy huh??

Fun fun weekend. I swear if I don't quit playing my house is going to revolt. Oh well it won't happen the next 2 weekends either. We are leaving on Thursday to head to Lincoln. Matthew is being recognized as an "Outstanding Senior" with the University at a formal banquet. We got the letter last week asking us to be there. Of course we said - RSVP'd - yes, much to Matthew's horror. He just wants to get his diploma and get on with life. But we said - we are going. We are very proud!! Then the next week we are leaving on Wednesday as there are 2 more banquets and then graduation on May 4. Stephanie and Matthew are running the Lincoln Marathon the next day. Oh well the house work will be waiting, I am sure. :rotfl2:

WFDT ~ Chicken spaghetti, kitchen sink salad and cheese bread.

Make it a good day.

Ellen- you must be so proud of Mathew! Forget teh house, it is not going anywhere!

Robin- mundane works for me too!

Well I am just jumping back in. I am very disorganized lately, so I decided to just give in to it today. It is chilly but sunny and I am ready for more of this!

BBL!

Ellen - Congrats to you both and Matthew!

Cooling down here! Sadly work is busy, busy, busy.

Morning, all! I have a quiet minute before all the kids start clamoring for breakfast, so I'm checking in! We are all doing well. Alan is in the last 2 weeks of school, so we don't really see him. He's busy writing papers and finishing up projects. This summer he'll finish his thesis documentary, and then in September he'll defend it and take his "comps". Then he'll be done!!!

Katie is now registered for Junior year. It was a stressful day, yesterday, trying to get her in all the classes that she needed, and the ones she wanted, too. Somehow, we managed to do it! She's thrilled that she has close friends in all her classes. That should make next year a lot easier!

Jacob continues to impress me. He is in the top 2 percentile of students at his Middle School. He loves his band class the best, and can't wait for summer band camp! He auditions for Jazz Band next week, so we'll see what happens. This from a kid who hadn't picked up a horn in his life until last summer!

The twins are doing much better. We are working with Leslie on ways to reduce her anxiety, and it seems to be helping. With Mary, we are just working on her realizing that she is a girl, and not a boy. She's having a tough time with that. She wants to do what the boys do, but at the rate she is developing, she needs to cut down on that. Sigh. I wasn't expecting her to go through puberty so early!

Timmy is still my main man, these days! He's so cute! We've started counting down the days to Disneyland, and he is getting so excited! I can't wait to see him there, as this will be his 4th visit, but probable the first one he'll really remember. He's tall enough to go on some of the big kid rides, but not the really intense ones. It should be an interesting trip!

So, that's where we all are! I just try to hold it all together for everyone, while fitting in time for me, too. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! Luckily it's getting warmer out, so I'm going to try to sneak in some walking time for myself, now!

Dinner tonight will be French dip sandwiches, pickles and green salad.

Oh my goodness Glynis! Where did teh time go?!?!?!?!?! I remember when we first started the WFD, Timmy was not even here and your kids were all so young! Now they are  shoot, I don't even know what they are, just so grown up and accomplished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are ding such a good job with all of them, be proud of yourself and Allan as well as your children!

Ellen- I have been chuckling all morning thinking about Mathew. :rotfl:Since when did he think his education and accomplishments were about him????????? :lmao::lmao:

I hear you on the Spring weather patterns! Farmers and weather never are happy! Be prepared to hear me whine all Summer. Buddy picked up 3 more acres :scared: and since this is a new field we have no idea what to expect.

PIO- you are always busy! :thumbsup2

Good morning all,

Sorry I was MIA yesterday.........payroll and vendor check day. I didn't even get out of here till almost 6. :scared:

PIO ~ I hope your busyness is a good thing. Is the weather turning cooler down under?

Glynis ~ You should be SO proud of your children. What a wonderful example you and Alan have provided for them. Now you get to reap the benefits.
I bet Alan is so ready for college to be fininshed. You must be so proud.

Nan ~ I agree -- REALLY!!! What is Matthew thinking. :lmao: He is not very happy with us that we want to go to these banquets. I told him yesterday that we have spent $$$$$ and he will be completely debt free when he graduates, the least he can do is indulge us. He agreed. ;)
I bet Bud is excited about the extra acres. I hope it is a good thing.

Well girls your powerful prayers have been answered. The second opinion came back on Addy. NO CANCER!! They still don't know for sure what it is but they are going to xray it monthly to monitor it. It is painful for her, but as long as they continue with the pain pills she is her happy self. So for now we are hopeful. Thanks so much

And on the job front for Matthew. He was offered the position of Training Manager of the Credit Analysist Department. He was given a full benefit package that is awsome!! His own office with a nice budget to decorate and a salary that he (and we) were very pleased with. He will be on probation for 6 months and then will be up for another raise in salary. All in all he was very pleased. The only downfall and bummer is, it is in a small town south of Lincoln, about 15 miles. So that means he wants to move to south Lincoln, to cut down the commute. The apartments in South Lincoln are probably double from what he is paying now. But with the increase in pay, we are trying to get him to realize that he can now afford something much nicer. Thanks so much for all of your prayers - they worked yet again.

WFDT ~ Rib eyes, baked potatoes, and a cucumber salad.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen- that must feel awesome to have all three of your kids settled in with their lives. I think my husband would agree with Matthew, our kiddo just got accepted into jr honors society. My husband was proud of her of course, then he found out there will be a ceremony ! Glad to here the pup is okay, how is cooper doing? Do you still need to get him checked often?

Glynis- I bet Alan is ready to be done.

PIO- hope you're enjoying the cooler weather. What is cool for you?

White bean chicken chili for dinner. Yup, we're still having winter meals.

Ellen-prayers answered! i know that you and Doug are so very proud of Matthew, this is an amazing opportunity for him!

Buddy is happy about the additional acres. We will have a huge cash outflow this year though, so i am not looking forward to that. He is going to measure it off, he thinks it is about 4 acres tillable, which will double what we have now. 4 acres does not seem like a lot, and for most crops it is not. With the additional acreage, Buddy will have a lot more work. Right now he does almost everything himself. WE bring in help, but that is for major work, not plowing, etc. The additional 4 will mean a lot more time for him, I am not good on a tractor, even if he trusted anyone else but himself and Dan to set teh rows ;)

I have class tonight and a conference with my adviser I think I want to go for an acct degree as well as one in Business administration. If I choose to go back to work, I think I will better be able to find a job with this degree.

Hi everyone, sorry for not checking in for a while. It has been a pretty stressful period of time and I haven't really felt like chatting. I have given myself until tomorrow at 5PM to get my head back to normal ;)

Nancy, an accounting plus business management degree is a good idea. You'll have lots of opportunities with that, and probably some internship offers that will give you experience before you finish the degree also.

Ellen, I am glad you got good news on Addy! You must be excited. And congratulations on Matthew's award.

Glynis, I can't believe that Katie is a junior! Where does the time go?

WFD: greek salad with grilled chicken.

Here is a photo from my walk into work this morning:

Glynis - Alan finishing up this year? I remember when he started! Good for you two. When are you heading to DLR? Have a great trip.

Nancy - I hope the weather will be kinder to you and Buddy this year.

Ellen - The weather is turning cooler here. We're in the middle of fall and the nighttime temps are probably about in the 50's at the moment. Daytime is still fluctuating in the 60's. Not too bad.
Great news about Addy! and congrats to Matthew on the new job. It sounds fantastic.

Robin - In the middle of winter, the cold here is relatively mild compared to where you are. We could hit lows of high 30's at night and daytime of 40 - 50. The really cold days will be when daytime temps are low 40's. But there is bitter windchill in Melbourne; so it always feels colder than the ambient temperatures.

Nancy - an accounting/business degree is always a good idea. I do think that working as an accountant in corporate life is hard work. There is always the pressure of month end and just when the last month end numbers are finalised, you gear up again for the next month end! Maybe you could check out business analysis type jobs.

Becky - Hope things are okay with you. And take the time to get yourself feeling like normal.
BTW - I found out last week that Melbourne and Boston are sister cities!
That's a great picture of your walk to work.

It's Anzac Day public holiday here today. I guess it's our Patriot's Day in your parlance. There was the dawn service this morning and I listened to it on the radio. I just can't seem to bring myself to get up at 4 am and make the trip down to the Shrine of Remembrance to attend a service. I suggested it to DS last night and he was not keen to go either. Maybe one of these years....

I've taken tomorrow off as well; so it's an extra long weekend for me. And this weekend, we're going to see Driving Miss Daisy. The stars are Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones! It's rare that one get American celebrities in Australian productions and I've wanted to see Angela Lansbury on stage for the longest time! I only hope its one of her 'on' performances; rather than an understudy!

Have a great day all.

Becky- I have had your family on my mind and just had no idea how to share what I felt. i cannot imagine the sense of loss and violation all of you are experiencing. :sad1: Please try to "bounce" back. I have to say that I really understand. Sandy Hook was too close to home, literally and figuratively, there is something intensely personal when the violation is in your back yard...it magnifies the pain.

PIO-I understand those early morning dilemmas. We are early risers but I really cant get my sad sorry self out the door :upsidedow I am so jealous of you! Angela Lansbury is a favorite of mine and I would move Heaven and Earth to listen to James Earl Jones :cloud9: There would be no living with me with your double dea!l

Ellen- I am so glad Addie is going to be okay! Not too much matters if your furry pals are healthy!

Robin- Congrats! to your kiddo! Gotta love those ceremonies! I always smile when I think about them. Buddy and Dan were joined at the knee from teh time he could toddle around. When it came time for him to make speeches, etc....he would always say "Hi Mom!" :rolleyes1

Glynis- No one is going to look back and say "Boy, she stopped dusting! My word, there were cobwebs in her lampshades!" I know this becasue if folks are discussing the shape my house is in, they are smart enough to do this out of my hearing....I have an empty freezer :rolleyes1 All kidding aside, you cannot do it all so don't try. The priorities get done and the rest don't matter.

I spoke with my adviser last night. He also encouraged me to make the change, so think I will. I discussed it with Buddy because ultimately, he pays the price when I am in school. he said he never can see the dust I whine about, and he loves sandwiches and is not starving yet so I should go for it. :drive:

And then my adviser talked about Marisa. We take classes together and he thinks she is the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He wants her to tutor in the skill center but almost fell over when I told him that in order for her to do this, she needs to be approved for financial aid. There are special circumstances for people who don't qualify, and she probably does not, so I think he needs to join the line of professors who have trooped into that financial aid office advocating for her. Right now she tutors fellow students who have been struggling and wanted to do this for free in the skill center but they cannot let her. She must be paid, she must get aid. Go figure :confused3

Nancy - Sadly, it will be a strictly no photography allowed event. :sad1: I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Mrs Potts and Mufasa in the same show!

You know what PIO? Pics or no pics, what a great evening you are going to have. I did see Driving Miss Daisy years ago and it was very good, well worth seeing. Adding those two powerhouse actors? Priceless IMO! have a great time!

 It would be perfect if we could see it together.

I will never ever understand the financial aid terms and conditions in the US.

The professors who are interested in Marisa are department heads. My Acct professor just kept shaking his head when I told him what Marisa was told. He is also on the advisory team for the board of regents and he told me he is pretty :sad2: because they don't listen to the educators who are trying to help them create policy that benefits CT students.

Marisa has applied and when she is denied she will need to appeal and that is when the advocates for her will step forward again. Our school is very small so it is funny how fast folks in most of the administrative offices know us by name. I think she will be approved :thumbsup2
