In and Out in a Day

Glynis, a blizzard??? Good grief!

Ellen, I am glad for your good news. Sounds like you had a busy and fun weekend.

My weekend was good. I did a lot of cooking. On Saturday I made a grilled portobello mushroom, onion, troasted red pepper, goat cheese, and spinach salad. Yesterday we had grilled arctic char with a salad of shaved asparagus, butter lettuce, and pea flans with a mustard vinaigrette, shiitake mushroom-pea arancini, eggplant sticks and broccoli.

WFD: I think I am going to make a grilled pizza. I am glad for the warmer weather finally! It is supposed to be in the 70s every day this week and I am planning to grill every night.

Today is opening day at Fenway Park. I am watching the crowds arrive out my window. It's a nice day for a game...I wish I was over at the park instead of stuck in my office!

Have a good day ladies.

Glynis- Blizzard?!?!?!?!? Comfort food is a good thing when you need to think about snow. Don't worry about what did not get done. It will at some point.

I know it will all get done, but now I will end up doing everything. I was hoping for some help from the kids, but I should have known better! I did get Katie to go through her bookshelf, and get rid of some books. I'm dropping them off to our local library later today (if the rain ever lets up!)

I also forgot to mention that we picked up a new (to us) dishwasher! Alan and Jacob installed it yesterday, and it works great! The kids are thrilled!!!

 I might have had Monday back and no work but I feel like I paid for it today. Back to back meetings all the way from 9 am through to 5.30 pm. A fellow colleague got me lunch, which I ate at my desk. Seems like they missed me yesterday!

Tomorrow looks much better on my calendar.

Keep well everyone.

First-Congrats on the new dishwasher. I never ever owned one until about 10 years ago and thought I did not really need it. Well, it is one appliance that is very easy to get used to, and when it broke, I was lost.

Now listen to me Missy.....you are not going to get everything all done all by yourself unless you decide you do not need sleep. I used to try to get everything done, no matter what and I did. But I was a mess and honestly, no one cared if it was all done. No one but me, and by the time I was all done, I was too tired to care. Do what you can and let some of it go by, it will be okay. Please don't try to get it all done alone.

It's a nice day for a game...I wish I was over at the park instead of stuck in my office!

The game was on the radio yesterday. For me, baseball on the radio signals that Spring is really here! It was nice here yesterday as well!

Never fails! ;)

Ellen- you sure had a nice but exhausting weekend! :goodvibes

Well yesterday was a nice day, Buddy had a Dr appointment and after we decided to try to see Air Force One fly into Bradley. So we got a great spot right on the flight path that it always takes. Well, almost always. We had this train behind us, all waiting to see her fly in, and so we figured we were in the right place. Nope. We heard a plane land that had flown in over Risa's house. Oh well........................

Morning, all. No snow, yet, but the temperatures have really dropped. As of 10:00 last night, we were told to expect 1-3 inches of snow. I'm really hoping that it passes us by! I don't want any more white stuff!!! We had wind all night long! I thought I would wake up in Oz! It finally died down around 3:30, so I was able to sleep for a couple of hours.

Nancy - You are so right! I reassessed my situation after talking with Alan, last night. He's so busy, trying to finish up his thesis, plus some freelance work, that we won't be seeing much of him until about the middle of May! Now is not the time to try to finish any big projects around the house!

My biggest concern right now, is finding some help for Leslie. She has developed some OCD tics that are really bugging her and everyone else. She's kind of freaking out because she doesn't know why she is doing these things, and it makes her a bit scared. So, today my number one priority is to find someone that she can talk to about this. Poor little thing. She was sobbing in her bed last night, as she resisted the urge to get out of bed and do all her "must do's." She likes to check all the locks on the doors over and over... and open and close the cabinet doors over and over.... and wash her hands over and over. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm thinking soup and sandwiches for dinner tonight!

Glynis- congrats on the dishwasher! My kiddo has ticks too and bit can they be agrivating. She kind of rotates them, her current one is sniffing but her other common one is head twitching. It drives me crazy! One thing we do is have her put a quarter in a jar for every twitch. Some days are very profitabe. We don't do it as a punishment, but just to make her aware. Her quirks don't upset her at all though, so she doesn't have much insentive to stop.

PIO- that was nice of your coworkers to get you lunch. I have a no lunch at my desk rule, I already spend enough time there.

Nancy- glad you had a nice day off even if you missed the plane.

Ellen- what a crazy but fun weekend you had. Happy anniversary!

Time to get going with the day, have a great day all.

Robin- you made me think of Daniel. When he was younger he was a walking talking bundle of tics. They did not know much about it back then, so I was told my very much adored youngest son needed more attention. :rotfl2: I would have had a mutiny if he was more the center of everyone's world than he already was! Anyway, we pretty much ignored most of them, just paid attention if they got more pronounced because that meant he was nervous about something.

Good morning,

Glynis ~ Poor Leslie, she must be so frustrated. I do think that you will be told to just let it run. Stephanie was a stutterer when she was around 3. Lasted about 6 months then was gone as fast as it came. I am sure you will find someone that can help. Bless her heart!!

Robin ~ I agree - I do NOT eat at my desk either. My hours are 8 - 4 and I work through the lunch hour, but I don't eat at my desk. :lmao:

Nan ~ So sorry about the missed plane. I just hate it when that happens, and with us it seems to happen quite a bit these days. :confused3 :rotfl:

PIO ~ I hope your day has been better.

Becky ~ OH how fun being able to see the fans at Fenway Park. I love love love baseball. But sadly to say I am a die hard Cubs fan. Always will be - someday they will be worthy of my adoration. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

Did any of you see the video going viral about Jack Hoffman and the Nebraska Cornhuskers during the Spring Game last Saturday? They had Jack and his Dad on Good Morning America yesterday. Makes me proud to be a Cornhusker. There wasn't a dry eye in the statium. This little boy has been an inspiration to all of us.

Winter has shown it's ugly head here on the plains again!! It was 70 degrees yesterday and -2 with the wind chill this morning. We got 2.3" of liquid gold (rain) last night but with it came high winds and dangerous lightening. Lots of limbs down and stuff blowing everywhere. We are to get freezing drizzle and blizzard conditions all day today into tomorrow. Oh My!! They just said on the radio that they are predicting 6 -8 inches of snow. Good grief!!

And of course our Momma Kitty decided sometime in the night to have her kittens on the porch. Not in the nice warm barns, where she could be away from the weather and warm, but on the porch. She is a barn cat - very wild - so there is nothing we can do to help.

WFDT ~ Chicken fried steaks, mashed potatoes, green beans and wheat rolls.

Make it a great day!

Hello everyone! Another day in the salt mines, another late finish. But I have tomorrow off. :thumbsup2

DS goes back to school next week so I'm hoping to spend more time with him tomorrow. We'll see what he wants to do. We're hitting that early teen stage where he prefers to spend time on the laptop with friends. Times have really changed! I remember when we used to spend time in the park with friends. But then.....I have heaps of 2D friends in the box myself; so I guess I know the feeling.

Morning! I'm pleased to say that the "blizzard" that was predicted for yesterday happened only in our mountains! We have a ton of new snow up there, but it really only snowed for about 20 minutes at my house. Then it melted quickly! By the end of the day, the sun was out and shining brilliantly!!!
Hopefully, that will be it for snow here, and we can get on with Spring!

I need some extra pixie dust right now, as Katie prepares to audition (again) for another class. This one is the Musical Theater class. They are the group of kids that will present the Fall musical (West Side Story). She is working hard to prepare, and would love the chance. I don't know if I ever told you that her last audition didn't go so well, but she was put into the Productions class as the Productions Manager. So, she will get to take the class, and audition for the spring musical next year. Whew! Her next audition is Monday afternoon then a dance audition on Tuesday. Keep her in your thoughts, if you can!

I get a chance to go see my dad this weekend!!! My best friend is taking a quick trip to his hometown to visit with one of her computer programmers for her business. She asked if I wanted to ride along with her to keep her company. We'll leave Friday afternoon, stay with my dad, and then I'll get to visit with him all day Saturday until it's time to leave for home! I'm really excited! I haven't seen him in about a month, and he just got home from a trip to Paris and Spain. Can't wait to hear all about it!

Not sure on dinner, tonight. I've got leftover spaghetti and leftover chicken soup in my fridge, so it might be a leftover night here. Depends on how I feel and if I get to the store later.

Happy hump day!!

PIO ~ Hope you get to have some quality time with the boy.

Glynis ~ Prayers are on the way.

Hello to everyone else that may stop by. :wave2:

When I got home last night the baby kittys are gone. She has probably moved them to the barn. Thank goodness!! I thought all day how I was going to protect them. Because if you get to close she if off. But they are already somewhere else. There are 5, 2 black and 3 gray tiger.

We got around 8" of snow and winds were horrible. We have drifts upwards of 3 -4 feet and we are a ice rink here this morning. NOT FUN!! And people don't know how to drive on it - Enough said!! Spring will come.....right???

WFDT ~ Americam Chop Suey, bread sticks and baked apples.

Make it a great day.

Finally finding some time to catch up properly with everyone!

I'd love to see Air Force One.....someday. It must be a rather special plane to look at.

I'm sorry Glynis. I hope you found some help for Leslie.

My DS has Tourettes-style ticks at the moment, similar to what Robin's kiddo is doing. Like Robin, we make him aware; but we don't punish. But I think that's a little different to what you're describing. Keep us updated with how you've gone.

PIO- that was nice of your coworkers to get you lunch. I have a no lunch at my desk rule, I already spend enough time there.

I normally have a no lunch rule at my desk as well. Lately, I seem to be breaking all sorts of rules :(

Ellen - glad to see mama cat moved the kitties.

I keep thinking winter will come too.....not just yet.

Morning, all. It's wet here! At least it's rain and not snow! I don't think it's cold enough to turn into snow, except up on the mountains! Cross your fingers!

We had a bit of a scare yesterday. At about 4:30, Timmy and his friend from next door, got bored of playing at my house. They informed me they were off to Easton's house next door, to jump on the trampoline. Ok, that's fine. Thanks for letting me know. Skip ahead to 6:30 when I send Mary to go pick him up. We find out that they never actually made it to the trampoline, and both little boys (Timmy age 4 and Easton age 5) are gone and no one knows where they are. Mary and Leslie begin a door to door search of the neighborhood and come up empty handed. Jacob searches the "forest" (wooded area near our house), and comes up empty handed. Alan gets in his car and drives out of the neighborhood to look around, but comes up empty handed. Easton's mother starts to drive around and look, as well. Pretty soon, there were many people from our neighborhood in on the search. I was staying home in case they showed up on their own. It got really scary there, and I was doing some heavy duty praying! Finally, Easton's mom rings my doorbell, and she has both little boys with her. They had decided not to bother Easton's mom, and use the garden gate to get to the trampoline. In doing so, they let the dog out and it ran. Being little boys, they went after her, but couldn't find her. What they didn't know was that the dog ran around our circle, and then went home. Those boys went searching for the dog. Easton's mom found them at a soccer field 2 neighborhoods away!

Let me tell you, we had some choice words for Timmy once we called off the manhunt. I don't think he'll do that again, but I showed him the "child leash" we used on him as a toddler at Disneyland, and promised him that if he runs off again, he'll need to wear it all the time. Whew! I have a few more gray hairs this morning!

No idea on dinner tonight. We are all sick of chicken, so I'm thinking something with hamburger. I saw a yummy recipe for Italian sloppy joes on Plain Chicken, so maybe we'll do that!

Glynis!!! Every parent's nightmare!

Despite the fact that I do know better.....In this case, I think a tall, stiff drink is in order.

Hugs to you all.

Good morning from the cold Tundra we call Nebraska.

Glynis ~ Oh my sweetie. I had total goosebumps and tears reading your post. I am SO glad the boys were found. How scary!! I hope Timmy NEVER EVER does that agin. In this day and age, you just never know! Prayers answered!
How is Leslie today? I sure have thought of her lately. Bless her heart.
Prayers will certainly be with Katie on Monday. She will do just fine.

PIO ~ Did you find the video? It really is a must see. Hope you were able to have some fun with the boy.

It is still snowing this morning. We have gotten upwards of 12". Doug and I are planning on going into Grand Island on Saturday to the Horse Races. This is our anniversary day. We go every year. The weather is suppose to be high 50's to 60's. We shall see!! I am so looking forward to it. Then this morning Doug reminded me that this is the Master's weekend. Opps!! This is usually our stay at home and cuddle in and do NOTHING except watch the Master's. I asked him if he wanted to stay home and we could go next weekend. He said no, so we will DVR it and watch it when we get home. I remember one time we were in Disney this weekend and the boys spent a lot of time at ESPN and on their phones finding out who was doing good.

WFDT ~ Baked Chicken Spaghetti, garlic bread and a salad.

Make it a great day!

Ellen - It was a tense few hours, that's for sure! Thanks for asking about Leslie. She is willing to talk about what she does, and that is good. We have found that as long as we let her sleep with our new dog, Tinkerbell, that she doesn't exhibit as many of her tics. So, we have a new sleep routine; I read to the girls, make sure Tink is with her, she asks me if the oven is off, if the stove is off, if all the doors are off, and if the garage light is off (all things she compulsively used to check), I reassure her, turn off the lights and leave. She's done well the last couple of days. The only other tic that is a bit worrisome is her compulsively washing her hands. When she washes her hands, it takes her 5 minutes to complete that task, as she scrubs each finger, each space in between, etc. Her skin has gotten raw and red. We have a timer by each sink, now, and that seems to be helping. We have also gotten her some moisturizing hand sanitizer for school, and that is helping there. She also has specific times of the day that she can wash. Before, she would wash her hands any time she even thought she might have brushed up against something questionable. Not anymore!

Sorry it's so cold for you, right now! I just wish it would get to be spring and stay that way for a while. We are in the Utah season of Sprinter, right now, and I hate it!

Glynis- yikes! What a scare. I'm so grateful for a happy ending- though I'm sure Timmy didn't find it to happy! I have a feeling the threat of the leash made the point more than any words you could say.

Ellen- I think we are done with snow for the year, we've moved on to rain. Glad the kitties got moved, you've had enough to worry about without adding barn cats to the list.

I spent the better part of yesterday doing my taxes (I knew we'd have to pay so I was in no rush to get them done) so I'm going to reward myself with minimal thinking today. Off to do nothing!

Glynis, how scary! I am glad the kids were found safely. I am sure he will not do that again anytime soon.

And good luck to Katie with her audition!

Ellen, that is a lot of snow for April! I hope you see some spring weather soon.

Robin, I hate doing taxes! John is staying home from work tomorrow and handling them this year. I just have to sign on the dotted line. I know we are going to owe...sigh. I always think of that Dorothy Parker quote: "Nothing is certain in this life but death and taxes."

WFD: I am on my own tonight so maybe a poblano pepper and black bean quesadilla. Or if I get lazy, a bowl of Annie's mac and cheese.

Ellen - I did google that YouTube. It brought tears to my eyes. What a great moment for that young boy!

Glynis - Simple steps forward with Leslie. Keep us updated.

Robin - Enjoy your day of doing nothing!

Becky - Hope your day to yourself was great.

It's Friday night here and I'm just relaxing in front of the screens. I'm not sure that work has adjusted to me back on 3 days a week; but I sure have!!!

Have a good weekend all.
