In and Out in a Day

Happy Monday everyone.

PIO ~ My Momma always said, "You know it was a great vacation when you are ready to go home". How right she was!!
I still say you are so smart for taking extra days off after you get home. I really am going to try to do that. Good luck with your first day back tomorrow.

:grouphug: to everyone else!!

Wow, what a busy but fun weekend. Saturday I was up early to go watch the boys as Elizabeth had to work. Doug and I took turns going to the shop to get our hair cut. I feel so much better and I know I look better. After we went home Doug worked out in the yard all afternoon and I deep cleaned the pantry. Took everything out, washed walls, ceiling and shelves, organized and put it back together. I feel so much better that that is finished.

On Sunday, we played hookey (I can't remember the last Sunday we didn't go to Church, we even go to Matthew's when we are in Lincoln). We got up early and just lazed around. Went to Kearney and had breakfast with Marty, Stephanie and Lilly Bug (we hadn't seen her for over a week :rolleyes1). Then we went to the Pumpkin Patch. Oh my we had a ball. There were pony rides, fainting goats, corn boxes (like sand but with corn), a corn maze, hay rack rides and we went to the patch and picked our own pumpkins. We then went back to town for yummy ice cream. Then headed off for the Apple Orchard. I was able to get a bushel of assorted apples. I got, Jonathan, Gala, Red Delicious and Empire. What fun......Lilly is quite the picker. :woohoo: We then went back to the house and ordered Sushi from and wonderful new place. We brought it home so we could watch the Colts and Cowboys. We finally left for home after I rocked Lilly to sleep and it was half time. I can't think of a nicer weekend. I feel so blessed to be so close to see my kids and grandbabies. Life is Good!! :cloud9:

WFDT ~ Chicken fried steaks, acorn squash (that I picked yesterday), fresh beets and a waldorf salad.

Make it a great day.

First day back at work was easier than I expected.

Ellen - Your weekend sounds like it was a lot of fun! Glad I could enjoy it vicariously.

Morning girlies,

PIO ~ So glad your first day back was a good one. Sometimes that first day back makes you want to go back to vacation. ;)

Busy morning! We have the Red Cross Bloodmobile here today. They are very rude and demanding people. They have already been in my office complaining that it is to hot in Fellowship Hall and want the air conditioning on. Good grief it is 62 degrees in there. I am NOT turning the AC on when it is only 35 outside. Truth be told I am not sure it would even come on.

It looks like it is going to bust out and snow any minute outside. The street lights are still on. I really don't know if I am ready for winter just yet. :crazy2:

WFDT ~ Chicken and rice soup with cheese and crackers.

Make it a great day

Ellen- I saw your pictures on Fb and what Sweeties you have! I loved that you shares your little ones with us. I am a bit annoyed for you. Your Church does not need to host the blood mobile, ( My sister would curl your hair with stories about the wasted blood) and the fact that you bring people to them is a good thing. I cannot stand that they are rude!

We played hooky this weekend too. Buddy worked and I was just tired, so I skipped out. We like Saturday Mass, and I just could not drag my sorry self out on Sunday morning.

PIO- I am glad the first day back to work was not too bad. I always am a bit confused when I get back, so good for you!

I had to put the heat on today, but honestly it was colder in my house than it was outside. Welby had an appointment so I got Nola off the bus (she had a 1/2 day). It was so cold in here, and she is fighting a cold, so I broke down.

I have chicken legs and sweet potatoes roasting in the oven. I hope they are done before I have to leave for school.

Tomorrow is homework all day becasue I am behind for tomorrow night's class.

Have a nice evening!

Ellen - That is not a good charitable attitude from the Bloodbank. I hope you sorted it out.

Nancy - Hope you caught up on your homework.

Life is returning to normal for me. I still have the holiday feeling; but it's back into the routine. We're coming up the end of year....school, activities etc....all the end of year concerts are coming up. It's gonna get hectic from here on end.

PIO- you always are busy! I could use some lessons on time management from you! :thumbsup2

I think Fall is really here. The weather got cold yesterday, and I think it is here to stay. I really do like this Season the most of our four. The air is crisp, you can smell the leaves and at night some folks have their stoves burning, so that is in the air as well. It is a cozy time!

Buddy has a meeting tonight, and Marisa and I have class. I need to see if Risa can find someone to stay with Kady. Bud actually thought we should get a sitter to come here, :lmao:

Happy Hump day everyone.

Nan ~ I know you are right and I agree totally but they are here and their isn't anything we can do but make them happy. I did turn the air on. But get this about 2:00 I walked in to see if they had a cookie and one of the workers remarked that they were freezing. REALLY!!!! I truly wanted to smack her.
I'm glad you like seeing my babies. They truly are the light of my life. Thanks!

PIO ~ It just amazes me how different we are. We are just getting ready for winter and you have flowers blooming. Now school is almost out. WOW!
Glad work is going good. I hate the week after I get back. I am like Nan, I am in a fog.

It is a beautiful fall morning out today. The sun is shining and the sky is a gorgeous blue. Hardly a breath of wind right now, but it will be breezy later. When I went out to do chores I told Doug that there was frost on the pumpkins - it was really pretty.

We have a new batch of barn kittens. One gold, one white and 2 gray ones. They are wilder than a March hair. I so wish I could snuggle with them. But they run so fast when they see me they are just a blur. So cute!!

WFDT ~ Chicken and stuffing (in the crockpot), fresh beets and roasted corn.

Make it a great day.

Terrific Thursday girls,

Well it is cloudy and dark out again this morning. We had such a nice day out yesterday - in the high 60's. Today we aren't even to get to 50. Burrr.

Our Christmas Community Choir has began and Doug has practice tonight. He really enjoys doing this. A couple of years ago, Stephanie and Matthew joined him. That was fun.

WFDT ~ Veggie burgers, sweet potato fries and tomato cucumber salad.

Make it a great day.

It's Friday:cool1:

Well I guess it's just me again. I simply refuse to give up on this thread. I so love talking to you all. I hate to think of you not being a part of my day. so I guess I will keep talking to myself. :rotfl2:

I am only working till noon as they are coming in to clean the carpets. Once they are finished they will be damp and I don't want to walk on them so I am outta here.

We are headed to Kearney tonight to babysit with Lilly as her Momma and Daddy are going to a Haunted House and then out for dinner with friends. We can't wait. Then tomorrow the girls and I are going to a huge craft sale. I can't wait.

WFDT ~ Beef Stew (Stephanie said she would have dinner ready for us)

Make it a great day and a fabulous weekend.

I'm here and not giving up on this thread either. I guess it's just real life encroaching in on our 2D existence!! Although, I noticed much more movement on the What's for Dinner thread as well.

Its been a bit busy over here and the Christmas rush seems to be starting earlier and earlier.

Plus, we've gotten back into routine now and am starting to get back on pointe with all the standard activities.

Today is Saturday and we needed to do a market run.....our stock had completely run down before the vacation. So, we bought a bit of fish, meat and chicken; and then had breakfast with our friends.
Then home for cleaning duties!

Thankfully, I have a relatively clear afternoon now; until dinner time. I got some seafood mix from the market; so I'll be putting on some pasta for dinner. Will cook the seafood with some butter, stock, dill and parsley. I really want to throw in some fresh chillies into the dish as well; but I don't think DS will like it that much.

Have a great weekend all.

Good Saturday morning! It is FREEZING here today, and I found myself snuggling back under the throws on the sofa this morning. I fell back to sleep and had a "nightmare" that we had snow. That is not a stretch because for the past two years, we have had our own Armageddon here in CT, both on October 29th. Honestly, I don't think anyone here is going to breathe unless we get to October 30 without a major Nor'easter.

I worked yesterday so we had homemade chicken soup and buddy added sandwiches to his. I am not sure about tonight because we want to go see his cousin in the hospital after Mass.

Ellen- I love a good haunted house! When Buddy was in the Fire Department they hosted a gynormous haunted house. They worked with the Ambulance volunteers, and it was terrifying. Sadly, it was so real that when a woman got hit by a car people just walked past her because they thought that she was part of the show. A few years later the house was set on fire, and that was that. There are rumors that the woman's family did it. My sister was a RFT on Lifestar and she responded to that accident. She was terrified because the description was a loose one of me, and when my brothers in law met the helicopter, she almost fainted. It is impossible to talk about that house without including that tragedy, but I do have to say, it was one of the most frightening ones around, and incredibly successful.

PIO- I agree that the Holidays seem to be faster and earlier each year. I wish we could just get past Halloween before we start celebrating Thanksgiving, and that we could celebrate Thanksgiving before we start celebrating Christmas.

I am trying to stay on the WFD as well, but I do miss days.

I've seen a couple of articles online about how cold it is in Eastern USA. I hope everyone is safe and warm. Hope your nightmare was just a "nightmare before Christmas" kind of thing, Nancy. I hope it doesn't really snow!

Another busy day today....we have a music thing to attend with DS and then family celebrations to enjoy. Here's hoping I make it through the family 'do'!

PIO- LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes, I hope so too! So far, we are going to get rain on Halloween, and nothing but cold til then. Buddy heard next week we may see the 60's, but if today is any indication, he was wrong!

Well, Buddy's cousin is really tired tonight and she is coming home tomorrow, so we will go tomorrow afternoon. I did not plan dinner, so we will find food in the refrigerator. It is kind of ironic though because I went to the meat market and started to stock up on meet for the freezer, but nothing planned to cook tonight :scratchin

Good morning friends,

Nan ~ I so hope your winter is a mild one. Maybe your dream was NOT an indication of what is to come. ;)
And just for the record we have found one thing that we DON'T have in common. I Hate Haunted houses, scary movies or anything remotely frightening. Nope not this girl - NO WAY!!

PIO ~ I agree!! We haven't even had Halloween and there is already Christmas decoration up.
Hope your weekend was good and no family drama.

We had a really nice weekend. Busy again (I really need some down time at my house - but it is just so much fun to play) and it went way to fast. I was able to get a few things crossed off of my Christmas List. The one thing I am looking for - Garden stones with Husker on them - there was only one place and they didn't have 3 and wasn't taking orders. :(

It is cold, windy and the moisture is just hanging. We are to get rain later tonight and tomorrow. The corn is almost 3/4 harvested. This rain will really halt it for now though. The trees are just brilliant, the colors are prettier than I have seen them is many years.

WFDT ~ Corn chowder and a crusty bagette.

Make it a great day.

:rotfl::rotfl:
It is breezy today, but warmer. Sharon is here with me, so she is recovering. I have a roaster ready to put in the oven, and will bakes potatoes and maybe broccoli. I am considering skipping class this evening, but I am not sure Marisa will be okay with that. Imagine this,......afraid to fac:rotfl:e my DD!

I wish we had Haunted Houses over here the way you do. Any that get set up this time of year are usually pretty expensive to enter. But then....it's pretty expensive here anyway.

The camera company rang me today. My camera lens is fixed! I'm hoping to pick it up on Thursday; but I suspect it may be Monday before I get round to getting it back.

Would you believe that the shops in Melbourne are in full Christmas mode already? All the tree decorations, cards and Christmas paraphernalia are out and about for sale. Thankfully, the city waits until end of November before they start putting out the decorations on the street.

Christmas is coming!

PIO- glad you will soon have your camera! I am not ready for Christmas, so I refuse to even look at the displays. It's funny though, as soon as the Hallmark channel starts the Christmas movies I'm in!

Good morning girlies,

Nan ~ Did you play hookie? I hear you on being afraid. There are times I am afraid of Elizabeth. :dance3:
Glad Sharon is with you and recovering. She is in good hands.
I am so with you on the Christmas shows. Those I am always ready for and the Christmas books. I try to stock up the holiday books to read as soon as Thanksgiving is over. They really get me in the mood.

PIO ~ So glad about your camera. I know you were devastated!!
I think Christmas comes out earlier and earlier every year. I just don't understand it.

I am more of a salty girl than a sweet. Thought I would share my new addiction. These things are so easy and oh so good and healthy too. ;)

Kale Chips

Take the kale and remove the stem, wash and pat dry real good.

Mix olive oil and balsamic vinegar in a dish. Run each leaf through and place on cookie sheet. Salt well.

Bake in 400 degree oven for 15 minutes. Turn over 1/2 way through until crisp. Be careful because they go from crisp to burnt real fast. Enjoy!!

I canned 9 pints of applesauce last night and I have the other half to do tonight. I love canning and having my shelves full of some good stuff. I just stand back and admire it. Silly I know, but it really makes me feel good. My shelves are full with - canned beef, tomatoes, green beans, pickles, grape and chokecherry jelly and now applesauce. My freezer is full as well with corn, tomatoes, salsa, and carrots. It will all taste so good when the snow is flying.

Thank goodness the temperature is above freezing because it is raining pretty good then a fine mist. We would be in for a blizzard otherwise. I guess the harvest is finished at least for a few days. We still have a lot of corn in the ground. The beans are out but the corn is still in. I just hope it doesn't rain tomorrow night as we are having our annual Trunk or Treat here at the church. Lot's of little ones will very upset if we have to cancel.

WFDT ~ Veggie burgers, applesauce, and baked fries.

Make it a great day.

OOH! Kale chips. I've discovered that I LOVE Kale in the last 6 months. That kale chips looks right up my alley! Thanks for the recipe.

No trunk or treating here for me this year. With coming home and everything, it just got too hard for me to head out to the annual 'do'.

But I managed to get some Halloween candy for tomorrow night. It's been pretty cold and a little drizzly here. I don't know if the kids will be roaming the street; but at least I have something to give them.

Happy hump day,

PIO ~ Glad you can use the recipe. I love them!!

I got the last of the applesauce canned last night. I ended up with 14 pints and 8 quarts. Between us and the kids that should last us hopefully through winter. As soon as the kids know it is done it will be gone. I didn't even put it away. They beg for it and love it and look forward to it each year.

I am so excited. Matthew called us last night and he has tickets for this Saturday's Nebraska Volleyball game. These tickets are completely sold out for the whole year. They are really that good. I think the are ranked 4th in the Big 10. So to get these was a real rare thing.

WFDT ~ Hamburgers with all the fixins. The Senior High Youth are having a dinner after Trunk or Treating tonight.

Make it a great day.
