In and Out in a Day

Turned out to be a super busy day today. I wasn't expecting it to be as busy as it was...but it was a lot of fun. I ended up having the head to work today for a "must attend" thing; but also went to see my old school with my cousin. Her daughter wants to go there for high school and they were running a tour this morning. My cousin asked me to go with her and it was like turning the clock back! The school has been modernised but we walked into some of my old classrooms.....OMG! Talk about a blast from the past. In one of them, they were having a maths lesson. I stayed all of 30 seconds and went to wait out in the corridor. I sure don't need another maths class in that room! :lmao:

Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a Spooky day in our neck of the woods. Windy and drizzly.

Ellen- I see you got tickets for your team! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better too that you are going with Mathew :cheer2::cheer2: I love that he thinks of you and Doug when he could very well share them elsewhere.

PIO- my kids and my nieces and nephews went tot he same school I did, so it is always fun to walk through those halls. So much changes but still remains the same.

I am trying to think of some spooky treats for tonight. It is going to be a tough trick or treating evening so I think I better have a party atmosphere here. Marisa picks up Erica and they join us for a Halloween supper, Buddy takes the kids out and we stay behind and enjoy Halloween punch and treats. This year my Princesses are having dinner here too.
I found a melted witch punch I might make, or maybe just a sherbet punch with gummy things., I have vampire glasses so it will be fun. I am also considering a brownie graveyard, cider donuts, and I might just buy pumpkin cookies. Loaded baked potatoes for dinner.

Oooh! Sounds like fun, Nancy!

We had about 60 - 75 kids trick or treating in our neighbourhood tonight. At least that's my estimate given the amount of lollies I had at the start and how much I was left with at the end. That's a LOT for Australia!

Happy Halloween everyone.

PIO- that would be a lot for us too! I'm glad you had so many! We used to have a lot of kids but not so many now. Buddy's coworkers used to bring their kids to our neighborhood to TOT so we had a houseful in and out, as well as all the little ones who lived here. 21 years later and not many kids at all. I still decorate because the few on the street really like it. I do not do much inside anymore though because it is a lot of work and makes no sense with just Buddy and me here. I only do enough so when the kids come over they see that there is a holiday going on.

I was actually surprised at how many came to the door.

But then, after I picked DS up from school today, I went out and put out a few Halloween decorations around the front gate and the entry porch. I think it was a beacon for the kids!

They came in packs of at least 4 - 8; all dressed up and even with face paint. Some of the younger ones had one responsible adult with them. Even the adults were dressed up! Amazing for Oz.

Happy Halloween my friends,

Nan ~ Last night for the trunk or treating Elizabeth and Jay had a bowl of spaghetti with a black trash bag over it for the kiddos to put their hand in. I even did it. OH MY GOSH it felt so funny - just like I would expect brains to feel like. You might want to do that. The littles would love it.

PIO ~ We will have close to 150 -200 tonight. This little town goes all out. They will start around 5:30 till at least 8 or so. It is a great time.
I hear you on the trip down memory lane. I graduated for here and the Middle School (Junior High) and High School are close to the same as when I went. So every time I go to a function there it is always a trip down that lane. Even Basketball and football games bring back good memories.

Trunk or Treating last night was a complete success. We had over 100 little ones. For a town our size that is amazing. We had a ball!!

Tonight we are going over to Elizabeth and Jay's for trick or treating. We live in the country and get NO kiddos so we go into their house to hand out candy while they take the boys out. Ethan is a Mutant Ninja Turtle, Liam is a pirate and Lilly is a cabbage Patch Doll. They are all so excited for tonight.

WFDT ~ Elizabeth is fixing a beef stew with homemade bread bowls. YUM....I can't wait.

Make it a great day.

Ellen- I am so glad your Trunk or Treat went so well! I love that spaghetti thing! :scared1: Have fun TOT with teh kids!

So far...................only Nola and Rylee, and we had to guilt Welby into bringing them. They were misbehaving so she as not going to let them go. No way!!!!!!!!!! I usually don't interfere but I sicced Marisa on her ;). They are the only kids on the street, so its really a shame!
Well! I just got two!

/
Sounds like you all had a good Halloween!

Ellen - 150 - 200 kids is a lot!

Nancy - You got the two BEST kids in the street! :thumbsup2

Happy Friday.

This has been the longest week.......

Nan ~ I so agree. Sometimes we just have to step in. Afterall it was Halloween!! :lmao: I love that you sicced Marisa on her. LOVE IT!!

PIO ~ Actually we were down on our counts from years past. At Jay and Elizabeth's old house (they moved last year) they would get upwards of 300+.
There was no way you could leave the door - it was a steady stream of kiddos.

We had around 125 trick or treaters last night. What a blast!! The Middle School had a haunted house so after I got off of work we took the boys to it. It was really well done for the little ones. Then we went to their house for dinner and they took the boys out. Liam was so darn cute - he got the "treat" down and I talked to Stephanie and she said that Lilly had the "trick" down. I guess they should have gone together. :rotfl2:

We are headed to Lincoln as soon as we get off of work today. I can't wait. I haven't seen my boy for over 4 weeks. We talk almost daily (well text) but we really miss him. We play Northwestern tomorrow "GO BIG RED". This is a must win for us. The weather is suppose to be in the 60's so it should be nice, plus it is a 2:30 game. Matthew's branch is in charge of the tailgate before, during and after the game. So that should be fun.

WFDT ~ Matthew is getting Jimmy Johns for us. So those and an adult beverage will taste mighty good.

Make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Hi Girlies,

I am just swamped today but I wanted to pop in and at least say hi.

Another funeral today and tomorrow. I hope to catch up real soon.

WFDT ~ Hot beef sandwiches, mashed potatoes and cranberry salad.

Make it a great day

Condolences for another funeral. That must not be fun at all. :(

I am so sorry Ellen. I often wonder if the approaching Holiday season has anything to do with the number of losses that occur. Don't worry about keeping up, we'll keep the thread going and you do what you need to do. And make sure you get some rest!

I have an appointment today with teh instructor who teaches teh self paced algebra course. I want to give this horrible subject one more try before I toss in the towel, and I hope she takes me into her class. I think I will have an extremely full schedule in the Spring but it makes no sense to put this class off because if I take it with the rest of my classes, the credits are free. If I wait, I need to pay all of he fees and no discount on credits because it would be all I have left. I did speak with teh academic adviser as well as my own adviser and bit said that I just need to accept that there will be courses I struggle with and that I cannot get an A in. (My accounting professor basically said "suck it up and get it over with, and be happy if you pass" ). The academic adviser said the same thing but in a much sweeter manner :rotfl2: so I guess they all are in agreement about this block I have for that stinkin' subject!

I made chili soup yesterday and it was so good! I am having it again today, and Buddy will eat leftover roast beef.

Have a great day!

Hey, everyone. Remember me? I know it's been a long time since I posted here. Things are pretty crazy and up in the air for us, right now.

I've been working (unpaid for now) for a new website (Family Storytelling.com), and that takes up quite a bit of my time. I am learning a whole bunch of computer stuff that I never thought I could learn, so that's exciting.

On the down side, Alan and I are really going through a rough patch. Financially things are not going well for us, and it's putting a real strain on our marriage. Not sure, yet, how things will work out, but for now, we are working on things.

So, that's where I am. Know that I try to keep up here, but most of the time, don't really feel like chiming in. Depression has really got a hold on me, but I'm doing my best to manage it. I follow along, but don't have much to add.

Happy holidays to you all!

Hi Glynis! I am so glad to see you! I loved your writing and consider the "job" as an investment in your future. You have been the CEO of your home for so many years, and while your job was mentoring our most valuable resources, it is not one that is a resume booster. This job is. You can use it as well as the computer skills you are learning when the appropriate opportunity comes along.

I am sorry to hear that things are rough for you an Allen, but keep your Faith! I remember my DMIL telling em that the teen years almost did her and DFIL in, and then boom! Buddy and I were there! I had no job skills, no education and not a lot of earning potential. Money was always a fight. The kids were always a fight. His breathing was a fight It was awful. The best thing I did was take an entry level job that I do not think anyone would have even considered. It was 6.25 an hour, and since I had to work nights becasue I needed my cleaning to survive, I was like the walking dead by Friday. But I earned how to use a computer, (needed to relearn after my last "hiatus") and I got experience that moved me up the "chain". I never did earn a lot, but the fact that I was finally able to earn, finally able to know I could take care of myself if I wanted to, changed how Buddy and I viewed each other.

There is a difference between having to be married and wanting to be married,; there is a difference between appreciating each other and living with each other. Buddy and I were tolerating one another becasue we thought that we had to , and that made for more resentment than I can even think about today.

I am not suggesting that you and Allan are anywhere near that place that Buddy and I found ourselves, but I just wanted you to know that the two of you are not alone, and that there really is a light. You are working towards it, just by working on your storytelling. Don't stop! Your time is really saving money becasue you are not paying for your education, and this job really is education for your future.

Happy Wednesday all,

Glynis ~ Nan, really did say it best. I totally agree with what she said. I read your post and had so much to say then I read Nan's and YEP that was it. I think the thing you really do need to remember is "it will pass". Rough patches are in every marriage. The difference is you will work it out. Most people these days just walk away when it gets tough - WE DON'T we stay and make it work. You and Alan are like that. Yes, it's tough but you will look back and know it is for the best and be proud that you "Made it"
We have ALL been there my friend and we do understand. Let us help if we can. You can PM me or call me at anytime!!!

Nan ~ "Suck it Up Lady" :rotfl2: :lmao: ;) Wow, those are strong words, especially when you are scared. And I think that is what you are - not that I don't understand - because I do, but I also know you can DO this!! And yes, just pass the damn class and be done with it. I wish Matthew was closer as he excels at any Math class out there. He could really help you!!
YOU CAN AND WILL DO THIS!!!!! :cheer2:

PIO ~ Thanks!! No they aren't fun at all. We have had way to many! They have all been elderly, but still. It just breaks my heart!!
I hope all is well with you. I am enjoying your trip report. :thumbsup2

We are in the middle of a large Pictorial Directory being done here. That is all I do all day is make appointments. Fun - NOT!!!

It snowed almost all day yesterday. We got upwards of 2" of precipitation. It was needed but the farmers are at a complete standstill with the harvest. They will be lucky if the corn is in the bins by Thanksgiving.

We had a fun weekend. We won the football game in the last 4 minutes with a Hail Mary. It was AWESOME.....we even made Good Morning America on Sunday. Then we went to the Volleyball game and they won in 5 sets. It was tied at 13 in game 5 and we pulled it out. We were completely drained by the time we got home. What a day.

WFDT ~ Meatloaf, baked potatoes and green beans.

Make it a great day.

Ellen- I thought if you this weekend when Buddy had football games on TV. :thumbsup2 I feel so badly about the weather your area is experiencing. Farming is pretty rough on the nerves! A few years ago i was at the FSA and this guy walked out of the office, smiling, happy and just plain peachy. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. No one walks out of there looking like they won the lottery. Well it turns out the guy was starting an aquaculture business, raising tilapia. It seemed he wanted a job that was not stressful so he chose farming. Really??? :rotfl2:I guess it would be fine right until all your fish died. I don't know. Stress free and farming are not synonymous!

Now please, for me....keep your sow away from us!

I was accepted into the class, but she was concerned because this will bring me to 17 credits. I did tell her I am not a slug, and confessed that I am a little worried, but she did think I could give it a solid try.

Glynis - Lovely to see you in here. Sorry to read that you and Alan are going through a rough patch. I think we've all been in that situation in our respective marriages. I know I have. Hang in there. We're here for you.
And changing to the other subject.....
Love your writing. I saw the link on FB and went to read the article on Taffy Pull. Loved it!!

Ellen - Snow?? How lovely! It must look real pretty where you are.

Nancy - Excuse my ignorance.....is 17 credits an issue???

Nancy - Excuse my ignorance.....is 17 credits an issue???

It is a lot given the courses I am taking. Intermediate Accounting II, Statistics, Public Speaking, Word Processing and Desktop publishing

The accounting and the Stats are what will be the issue with another math that I already struggle with. Right now I have a 3.97 GPA and I =know the algebra will destroy it.

Good morning ladies,

Nan ~ If there is anyone that can do this you CAN!! Quit looking at your GPA....you don't have to get into a good college, plan for scholarships or impress anyone. All you have to do is pass and I know you can do it. 17 credits is quite a bit, but again, you can do it. I know you and you are anything but a slug. You are a go getter and come hell or high water you will get this degree. Now quit worrying about it and get busy.
Love you!!!:goodvibes

PIO ~ Yes the snow is pretty and I really do love living in the part of the country that does have all 4 seasons. I love snow till January, then it can be 70 out again. :rotfl2: I love snow at Christmas time. I will have to take some pictures of all of our trees and house all nestled in with the snow. It really is pretty.

:wave2: to everyone else who comes in later and those lurking. I know you are out there. :rolleyes1

3rd day of the pictures is in the books. I will be glad when this is over. We have had upwards of 90% participation and that makes me really happy. We are able to get pictures of others and scan them in so that is pretty cool. I am in charge of the appointments (I have the computer) but there are 2 volunteers each day to do the actual work. Thank goodness!!

Marty and Stephanie have asked us to come to Kearney tonight. I can't wait to see Lilly. We face timed with her on Tuesday. Bless her baby heart she just can't figure that out yet. She keeps trying to look behind the phone. 0 She was a real chatter box though. Oh, Christmas is going to be so much fun with these babies this year.

WFDT ~ I have no idea where the kids are taking us - probably out for Burger and a Beer night at the local Pub.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen- we just had our pictorial directory session a few weeks ago. Our Church has a committee that handles this, it is a huge endeavor! I cannot imagine how you do this with just two people. The sessions took place over a three week span, IIRC. I had to drag Buddy in kicking and screaming, and Father had a chuckle at his expense! We were asked to present the Gifts on the following Sunday and Father continued to tease him, asking where that tie he was sporting a few days prior was :rotfl2::rotfl: Buddy still is not used to the good nature our Pastor has, we both are "victims" of that old fashioned Catholic guilt thing, so his expressions are priceless!

Christmas and babies :lovestruc

I am hoping to go to see The Butler this evening. i hope that Buddy does not need me at teh farm.
