IMPORTANT - 11/30 MAGIC CRUISE HAS BEEN CANCELLED (11/30 Cruisers Discuss Here)

nodding to the minority-- I too was one of the minority-- and a cruiser for this weekend.. so I got it both ways;) .. well It is for the best of all the future cruisers.. but this is very dissapointing-- sorry I wont be seeing anyone of you on the ship-- and feel real bad for those who do have kids--At least I can fly to vegas on the spur of the moment-- Guess i'll just buy a big screen tv and watch past episodes of the Love Boat wearing my mickey ears and drinking home made daquiris with my mickey twirly straws that I own.... and I guess I'll pin trade with my cat.. until my wife gets back from Florida!!!

I was one of the few, who stated that I wouldn't cruise if I was in the 11/30's cruisers positions and I also felt that DCL should take the ship off-line to fix this problem. Even though I would have cancelled, I still would have been VERY upset and I feel for all of you who were to sail on Saturday. I hope you all can find alternate plans and still have a good time!!!

So sorry for all of you who were supposed to sail.:(

Just wondering if anyone has been offered any type of "replacement" vacation in addition to the 50% off coupon? I know they are offering full refunds, but have they offered a package/ room at WDW with Ultimate Park Hoppers or anything? I am assuming that this is the 7 day cruise (I don't know very much about the DCL) and not the land/sea one, so does that mean people really are not interested in doing the WDW park thing? Did any of you have time booked at WDW for after the cruise? What about the people that are down there right now? Is Disney doing anything to help them extend their resort stay for an extra week? Just curious. I know that if I had a vacation cancelled, had taken time off from work, and had non-refundable airplane tickets, I would try to get a room on Disney property as part of my compensation so I could at least take my kids to see Mickey. Are any of you taking another type of trip to a different destination instead, or are you just going to stay home now?

Again, so sorry this happened to all of you. :(

I'm right there with suez, Larry and Lruggiero. I AM going on the cruise very soon, as are lruggiero and suez according to previous posts (nice editing to eliminate the snide comment). Although Lori was scheduled for the 11/30 cruise. :(

While my concerns about taking my toddler may seem laughable and overprotective to other parents I just got off the phone earlier with one of my best friends. As a pathologist she was concerned because she knew we were planning to go on the cruise soon. She definitely thought that Disney needed to take the ship out of rotation for at least a week and urged us to consider our actions if they did not take proper steps.

Now I'm no paranoid, overprotective parent, but when a PATHOLOGIST expresses concern over my child's safety I'm going to listen.

Thumper1,

First off my thoughts go out to the 11/30 cruisers. Terrible situation for all.

To answer your question, the norwalk virus needs a host (human) to survive. It lives on surfaces for a limited amount of time (no one really knows, but I've heard several days) . So if everyone is off the ship and no one is continually vomitting and having diarrhea on the floors/walls, then there should be no more virus produced on the ship 11/30-12/6. Ideally the current crew should not clean the ship- they should be scattered around orlando.

Any crew that are infected today will now vomit and have diarrhea somewhere else next week. When the crew come back and that were infected may still shed some virus in their stools (can shed for 21 days), however they won't be vomitting and if they wash their hands after bowel movements, the chain of infection will be broken!

Barb, glad you got the news and have made alternate plans. :)

There are TONS of "mini-meets" planned for DISCon, go check out the DISCon board and you can get all the information.

Ken, thanks for the info regarding why this is important. Exactly as Ken said, the virus is shed and even when the contamination slows (as it seems to have on the current cruise) it can still spread. DCL is trying to break the cycle by taking EVERYONE (crew included) off the ship for a major disinfection.

I'm sure the discussion can remain civil and helpful to those who were to sail on 11/30.

So sorry....
My heart goes out to all anticipating 11/30 cruise.
I can imagine the disappointment you must feel. :(

When I heard the news I was very concerned for you! Have a wonderful trip! Ann

so sorry that this happened to all of you....
i know how i would feel had it happened to us after all that planning and anticipation...
if it were me, i'd do what a lot of you are doing....WDW...
and if it were us, we would have already been there....coming from overseas, we arrived in orlando 4 days before our july cruise.....just to be safe...so i imagine there must be at least a few 11/30 cruisers who are already on vacation...i hope they hear before dragging themselves over to port canaveral...

i hope those of you going to WDW instead have a wonderful time...and are able to reschedule your cruise soon...

taswira-Your DH's theory makes a lot of sense to me!

I'm so sorry for the 11/30's screwed up vacation plans.

Barb, you are handling this news with class!! Enjoy DISCon!!!

Wow, how sad! I can't not believe the disbelief you may be feeling right now. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving regardless. Pixie Dust to All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since next week's cruise is cancelled, it was suppose to do the eastern itn., will the next sailing be eastern or will they stick to the schedule and do western. Just curious. I hope they stick to their original schedule. Kathy

My heart goes out to all the 11/30 gang, I hope you can make alternate plans!
Barb, I was worried about you, but you are taking this real well! I hope you and your family have a great time!

Lisa

I am so sorry for those of you that were scheduled on the 11/30 cruise. I know that does not help but I know how disappointed you all must be :(

One question though??? What will DCL do with the 1000 crew members for the week. If I recall they sign contracts and work straight through for 6 months at a time.....where will they go for the week?

Kathy as far as I know they will stick to the original schedule and the 12/7 cruise will be the Western one. People have pre-booked excursions and it would be chaotic to switch ports at this point, I think. :)

I would expect that they would stay to their original schedule and keep the 12/7 cruise a Western. Besides, isn't the Western cruise more expensive than the Eastern? Also, they have obligations to be at certain Western ports, and no "reservations" (for lack of a better word) to show up at the Eastern ones.
