Do you know if iMessage on iPhones and iPads will work on board? We always put everything on airplane mode, but haven't tried the wifi for the dcl app or anything. So it got me wondering if messaging will work with wifi. It's much easier to text on our devices than on the wave phones. Plus, if we are going to carry our devices for the app, I don't want to have to carry he wave phone too. TIA

If you pay for internet access it should work. If you mean the free wifi it should not work since iMessage requires internet access to work.

So if you use the APP and connect to the free wi-fi, is it also connected for any other wi-fi use?

What is the cost for paid wi-fi ??

Download the app—available for free in the Apple App Store℠ for iOS devices and Google Play™ for Android devices—before you arrive at the embarkation port and then, once onboard, connect to the ship's WiFi network—complimentary for app use only

I don't know about imessage but while connected to the free wifi to use the app last week my weather channel app updated and I got push notifications from my local news app too. I could not check email or use safari though.

Depending on your provider, you may be able to receive text messages for free (providing you have unlimited messages of course) and sending may be available via a package or free in some cases as well. For example AT&T has free incoming text messages (as long as you have a text messaging plan) and this is true, even on the ships. They do charge for outgoing messages, unless you buy a package, but if you limit your messaging, it will probably be cheaper to pay $0.25 per message than it would be to buy a package for each line.

T-Mobile offers completely free texting in over 100 countries and possibly on the cruise ships on their new plans, you would need to call to confirm.

But overall, my point is check with your provider, texting may be free and for most phones there is a way to allow texting while not allowing calls.

We also received news alerts while connected to the app onboard (not the paid wifi), but it seemed really random. I would not expect to be able to use any app through the free wifi dependably.
