I'm sorry to ask..but I need your prayers again

Back home. Surgery is likely Thurs. morning unless for some reason decide to move it up during the night. Nurse said she'd call if that's the case. Dr's were gonna do it tomorrow...but it will be quite lengthy, and they don't want to be fitting him in between scheduled surgeries if they don't have to. They said to figure on four to five hours..but again, they also said don't hold them to that. They are anticpating they will have some difficulties. Bob had some surgery on his lung some 22 years ago. We were kids. He had a cyst removed. They are anticipating a fair amount of scar tissue as well. They will be entering his chest cavity in the same area. This is in addition to removing the mesh from the laproscopic procedure that didn't work..they said it will be a while. The surgeons are optimistic..but at the same time..they turn around and are cautious..if that makes sense. I love(not) the phrase..."it just makes it more challenging". Sent him for some more tests today to make sure he's in otherwise good health. Jeeze..if this is good health..what's bad?. These doctors and nurses look so young. I wanted to ask one of the surgeons if his mother knew he played with knives?

Debbie...your prayer brought tears to my eyes. It was exactly what I needed to hear. I plan to print it and carrry it with me.
I do hope this thread is not closed, as I find it very comforting to return here after a long day..and know that so many are keeping Bob in their thoughts..and if they are of faith, in their prayers.
Many gather around this campfire..believers and non believers a like. Those who are spiritual, Those with words of comfort. I appreciate very much all of your kindness.

i don't think it's prayer that is outlawed, just the God that you are praying to, that you can't mention.

Thanks for the update Phyllis. I will continue to keep You and Bob in my prayers.

Just keep thinking good thoughts, it will be over soon. I know everything will be OK, the 5 hrs will be the hardest, I will be thinking about you. Please keep your head up and think about the Fort.

I was going to drop in and offer up one last God-honoring prayer for Phyllis and Bob, before it gets out-lawed (see the Sticky), but am glad to see that Deb beat me to the punch. Lovely prayer, and may God be glorified in the cries of his children, in the response of his people when faced with adversity, and by the surprise these things create in the unbeliever who witnesses them. May the testimony of His faithfulness be magnified in your time of trial.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I want to make sure everyone knows that this aspect of our community is seemingly about to be robbed from us. I would just ask that you consider how these new "no religion, no politics" policies are going to impact the genuineness of our community, and write to Pete and John expressing your concerns. I think the existing guidelines, where insulting, negative, and argumentative posts result in deletion, points or locks is sufficient and that there is no reason to censor these topics outright. I find this kind of censorship destructive to community, and I will be writing them to make my concerns known. I hope I got this in before the thread gets locked :guilty:

I think if it hadn't been mentioned to start off with, that no one would have given it a second thought.

Giving a prayer or well wishes is no more a religion than making sure you say Good Morning everyday to people.

Good morning ya'll !!

Phyllis,
I am so sorry to hear about your husband's condition. I know there are better days ahead for both of you once he pulls through this and HE WILL pull through this!

Keep that faith going; even on a faithless-based board, there IS faith! I understand it, but don't necessarily agree with it. It's acts like this that we can blame on the world being the way it is.

writing to me will do you no good. I've lost my self appointed unnofficial moderator privliges.........

Phyllis, thanks for the update. Remember, God doesn't give us what we can handle, He helps us handle what we are given. He is with you and Bob and He wants you to lean on Him. We're all praying for Bob and you and the family. Hey, we're the Dis Camping Community - we can do some prayin' here!! Seriously, we ARE pretty good at it! Don't you worry about anything... we got the prayers covered, you guys have God with you, Bob has great Drs and nurses.... everything is going to be fine!! Bob is going to pull through this no problem!! And after he's feeling better, take a vacation at the Fort!!!

Actually, if you read the full wording of the policy, asking for and giving prayers and pixie dust is not prohibited!!

Phyllis - good thoughts and prayers are going out to you and your DH. :grouphug:

Phyllis, I hope you will forgive me for continuing to hijack your thread... I am still praying for you and Bob (in the incomparable name of Jesus [for Gatordad ;) ]). I feel I need to respond to this statement:

Actually, if you read the full wording of the policy, asking for and giving prayers and pixie dust is not prohibited!!

I guess the words forbidding "posts and threads of a political or religious nature" is wide open to interpretation. I think for many people there is a world of difference between "warm wishes" and intercessory prayer. In the first instance, the person in need is the object, in the latter the object is a third party who is able to affect change over the situation. For others, there isn't an ounce of difference between "I pray" and "here's hoping" and "I'm sending pixie dust".

For the record, I do not think these boards are a suitable place for political debate, religious debate, proselytizing, and certainly not for personal attacks, or hateful rants against worldviews. But forcing people to deny who they are is a sure-fire way to undermine the sense of community we have all come to cherish around here. Frankly, if I had a need like Phyllis' and knew that the only support I could get around here were "warm wishes" and "pixie dust" y'all would never know about my need. This feels like a "don't ask, don't tell" for Christians (and Muslims, and Jews, and wiccan's, and witnesses, and Mormans, and ...), and it already feels oppressive, even though I've not been issued a point (yet!) :sad2:

Phyllis --

I know I've been out of touch for awhile, but wanted to send you my best thoughts and wishes getting for thru this trial with Bob. I hope it's all smooth sailing and they get it right this time. One of Ryan's surgeries was 6 hours, and it kind of blew my mind that it could take longer than open heart surgery for what he had, but it takes time to get things done right.

Hang on to thoughts of happier times you've had together, and the ones that are still coming your way. Your anniversary trip last Fall was so romantic...you'll need another trip to celebrate when this is all behind you.

Take care, hang in there and we'll all keep supporting you thru this. :flower3:

sorry I haven't been on much but I'd like to add my prayers to the others as well! God wil take care of you both in more ways than you even know.. Be strong and keep the faith! He is the GREAT Physician! Janet
