Went for the free lemonade stand today, my youngest DD just loves them and while there was going to buy her another set, but there is a big price difference between Toys R Us, Walmart, Target and the Lego.com site. I'm sorry but Toys R Us has now officially lost my business. In this economy I can not pay more for an item than necessary. It's more than the price difference it's the point. If Lego itself sells it for 69.99 why does Toys R us sell it for 80.99. :headache::mad:

sometimes TRU has sets that come with bonus things in them that are exclusive to TRU. Perhaps the set has extra things in it that cause it to be just a bit more expensive.

While doing holiday shopping and all the price comparison I found the same issue. Toys R Us was always more expensive. Every item, every time. Unless there was a sale, in which case it would be sold out within seconds on the website.:headache:

Add in the worst customer service issue I've ever had with a store, that is so long I won't bore you to death, I am done done done with them too.

Same here. I have seen that they are ALWAYS higher, and if they offer a "bunus" item...sold out before I can click the email link. Did have luck with the innopad with case at christmas time, and bought the xbox combo, because they talked me into the "wonderful rewards program". So, bought a few things there, went out of my way to check there before I bought anything somewhere else. Was THRILLED when I found out I earned $50 in rewards....untill I actually got them, and noticed the fine print excludes everything I would have bought ( like games for xbox- which is what I actually SPENT the money to get those rewards). Sorry- wont fall for it again.

Because there will always be someone who will buy it for $80.99.
As much as I don't like that TRU is overpriced compared to other stores, I have 1 Target and 1 Walmart in my area. If I need or want something and the only place I can find it is at TRU then that is where I buy it. I would love to say I was done with them too, but I know that isn't the truth.

The mark up on TRU Legos is ridiculous! I always scan it with my RedLaser app before I buy from there.

For example: the superhero batman/catgirl set retails for 10.99/11.99. TRU has it marked up to 19.99. ALMOST DOUBLE THE PRICE!

Another example, the Friends set you mentioned above is a full 10-12.00 more than the ones you can buy at Target, WM, or the Lego store itself. Even the little tiny Friends sets are marked up from 5.99 to 7.99.

Another example: The new Star Wars sets - they are marked up from 2.00-6.00 more than everywhere else.

The only time I buy legos there is when I have rewards and a coupon on top of the rewards.

RIDICULOUS! eta: these are not special edition sets, or ones with bonuses. These are just the regular ones you can buy anywhere.

they did the same thing with skylanders, the MSRP $7.99 figures are $9.99 and the MSRP $19.99 sets are $24.99 and recently raised the price on mario kart knex sets. The $19.99 MSRP track expansion set was shelf tagged for that price but was raised to $21.99

their clearance isn't as great as it used to be either. Items are not marked down as often as they used to be and older items already on clearance aren't being marked down more like in the past. As an example many ps2 games Have been $9.98 for over a year without dropping more.

I have 2 TRU stores in my area one is a TRU and one isa TRU/BRU combo. They consistently have DIFFERENT prices on things, and they are always higher than the stores in Jersey. Also, when an item goes on sale or they have a coupon for it they raise the price. Like the Tommy Tippee bottles were buy one get one half off and they raised the price on the sets by $6-$9. Ridiculous.

I would expect Toys r Us to be more expensive than Walmart, its just the way it is.

yep.. they never claim to be the cheapest. I will tell you they sell out even at the higher prices. I do work at tru and I am usually in the lego section. I have bought most of the friends pieces but did so with my reward dollars. I bought 2 sets from amazon where I though I was getting a deal and they were actually cheaper at tru.

One thing I have to add just for info sake.. if you think TRU prices are bad in the U.S., you should see them here!!:scared1:

The difference between the Lego sets at Canadian Toys R Us, and me hopping over the border to go to Target saved me a ton of money!

It's a free market. TRU has every right to price products as they feel fit. People obviously pay the inflated prices, so good for TRU for finding a way to eek out more profit.

Nothing extra. LEGO at TRU is sold anywhere from 2.5 to 90% (yes, 90% in the case of one Harry Potter set), and is the same available elsewhere.

Babiesrus is more expensive as well but I figure the reason is because you may have a coupon and if you do, you pay the same price as the competitor price plus they have a rewards program that enable you to earn TRU dollars on top of that.

I'll also never give TRU any of my business again. At Christmas, they offered a Toy Story Operation game for $1. I was going to buy the regular version for my nephew at Target for $10, so I decided to get them both at TRU online, even though they charged $14 for the original. Well, they "ran out" of the $1 game and sent the other game with a shipping charge of $9, so it cost me $23 for one game. Then they cancelled the rest of the order. I was so mad, I sent an e-mail to Hasbro asking if the Toy Story game was still being manufactured. They replied that it was and provided a list of stores it was available at, including TRU. I then e-mail TRU with a copy of Hasbro's e-mail and told them to reopen my order and ship the Toy Story game, at the advertised price when it was back in stock, or refund all of my money so I could go purchase the game at a reputable toy store. I also figured that since I was bombarded with sales e-mail from them since placing the order, that the only purpose of the "sale" item was to collect e-mail addresses. Never heard from them. They'll never hear from me again either. I wonder if anybody actually got the $1 game.

Just because Hasbro told you TRU had the game in stock, that does not make it so.

We get that at the store I work at all the time. Someone comes in with an e-mail stating we have an item we don't have and have never carried, or are just out of, and is mad at us. The maunfacturer has no way of knowing how many of an item each store has in stock. Or if they have any left. Or that not all stores in the company even stock the item.

It is frustrating. But all Hasbro could accurately tell you is TRU at some point had the game. That is all.

TRU does a buy 1, get 1 half off on Lego at least once a month. I think that's why their prices are so high - so when they run the sales, they are still selling it for a relatively high price.

I never buy anything there unless it's on sale. Because eventually, everything there goes on sale.

Hasbro doesn't have a real time inventory checker for stores that tell their products, they tell you where you can buy their products not if they are in stock in those stores.

When you place an order for multiple items, the store has no idea you aren't going to want that second item if the first one is no longer in stock. Yes, they should have notified you that the $1 was OOS, but you can't expect them to decide for you that you may not want that other item and not send it.

I'm not saying TRU doesn't have poor customer service from time to time, but sometimes customers really do expect too much.

Maybe not so good for TRU. Consumers aren't idiots, and as this thread shows, resent being overcharged for things. We had a TRU located very close to a Target and Walmart. The Target and Walmart are still there, the TRU is now a TJ Maxx.

I am so sick of people saying they will never shop somewhere again because an item they were looking at was priced higher! I mean if the gas station in my small town is .03 cents higher per gallon then the one in the big city i work in i will not vow to never shop there again and only where its cheeper! If I can get to the cheeper place I will but I cant say in good faith I WILL NEVER shop there again! I for one like Toys R Us for the exclusives and the sales and sometimes in the midwest where I live you cant get certain things at Walmart or Target and Toys R Us is the only opitiion. So We shop there! And Yes we do legos - our local walmart has like 1/2 asile of Legos and our Toys R Us has 3 or 4... just people keep an open mind and do be so put off and vow something that in my opinion makes no sense. No dotn get me wrong I am a VERY savy shopper and pinch my pennies but if its a specific item I want or dont have another local choice I will go there. We for one are people that prefer to shop at a store and see the item and if we can we would prefer to pay a few more dollars to help a family run store - so dont be so mellow dramatic based on price alone........

now if the service was bad or you had a terrible experience for one reason or another thats a whole nother ball game... us for one if we have a bad expereince at a resturant we will not go back... but that is based on service.....
