I'm so very very done with Toys R Us.

I am so sick of people saying they will never shop somewhere again because an item they were looking at was priced higher! I mean if the gas station in my small town is .03 cents higher per gallon then the one in the big city i work in i will not vow to never shop there again and only where its cheeper! If I can get to the cheeper place I will but I cant say in good faith I WILL NEVER shop there again! I for one like Toys R Us for the exclusives and the sales and sometimes in the midwest where I live you cant get certain things at Walmart or Target and Toys R Us is the only opitiion. So We shop there! And Yes we do legos - our local walmart has like 1/2 asile of Legos and our Toys R Us has 3 or 4... just people keep an open mind and do be so put off and vow something that in my opinion makes no sense. No dotn get me wrong I am a VERY savy shopper and pinch my pennies but if its a specific item I want or dont have another local choice I will go there. We for one are people that prefer to shop at a store and see the item and if we can we would prefer to pay a few more dollars to help a family run store - so dont be so mellow dramatic based on price alone........

now if the service was bad or you had a terrible experience for one reason or another thats a whole nother ball game... us for one if we have a bad expereince at a resturant we will not go back... but that is based on service.....

Geez, someone needs an extra cup of coffee today. Isn't this post a little harsh?

No not harsh at all just stating my opinion :) Nothing wrong with that is there :) Seriously think about it - if Walmarts price on Milk is higher then Target would you post a public I AM NEVER SHOPPING AT WALMART AGAIN BECAUSE THIER MILK IS HIGHER PRICED THEN TARGET... I mean seriously... its a free market and its what makes America what it is...

And OP is entitled to their opinion. If they choose not to give their business to TRU, then that is their right. You don't have to agree, but you don't have to bash them and call them melodramatic.

So its not ok for me to voice my opinion (apparently I must agree with her and not make a point for her to consider) and its ok for you to bash me for my opinion... interesting double standard you have...... but to each there own - We will all not agree on all points and you have not given me a valid agruement against my point... sooooooo - life is too short to worry about little things like this... guess its my turn to be mellowdramitc now :) - but please just think about what she wrote... and in turn what I wrote :) I WILL NEVER SHOP ANYWHERE AGAIN THAT HAS A HIGHER PRICE THEN ANOTHER STORE!!! Really come on - I guess all the stores from now on in her and yoru world will have to have teh exact same prices exact same items and exact same customer service. So much for Capitalism....

I hope you have a wonderful day as I know I will... :)

Sorry, but I did not bash you. You can make any point you want, but the tone your post was in is not one of making a point, it's to make her feel bad. This is my last post on this issue.

I'd be surprised that unless they significant change their marketing plan and customer service, they are both TRU and BRU are around in another 5 years.

I LOVE our Toys R Us. I'm a price watcher too. Ours and the one on the other side of town are both really close to a Wal-mart and Target, and I don't know if that makes a difference, but the prices at TRU are usually the same, and TRU usually has a much better selection of stuff. Sure, occasionally the TRU price is higher than the others, but I have also see the price at Target significantly higher than that at TRU on occasion. Our TRUs are great with their customers too. When the one by us ran out of the $1 operation game at that special last year, they had an overstock of a Life game that was on a cheap sale too, so they were letting people have that for $1 as a substitue. Yesterday they were having a lego event to promote the new friends line. The kids could build a lemonade stand and take it home with them for free. We were in the store across town last night after the event had ended and DD was there to pick out a toy because she had an accident Friday night and now has stiches in her eyebrow and an eye that is swollen shut. The manager had a bag of all the extra pieces from the days free give away event that he was getting ready to put in the trash and we were buying her one of the lego friends' sets, so he gave her the whole bag of extra pieces. It was great. When I've been looking for something that was hard to find, our TRU employees have scoured the shelves, climbed ladders up to boxes above the shelves, searched the back, and called other stores and checked online for me. They really go out of their way to help their customers. I've never had any trouble with returns there either.

I certainly understand how you feel though. Around here Kohl's has ridiculously high prices when things aren't "on sale". I'm talking twice what you can get stuff for elsewhere. When things are "on sale" it is usually for the same price you can buy things for on regular price other places. I will shop there occasionally, but it is never my first choice of places to go.

I know this happens elsewhere but none to this extent. This is why I won't shop at Toys R Us

They agreed to take the chemicals out years ago but they are still in there! My sister in law (who doesn't like to listen to my request of no Toy R Us toys) gave my son an "exclusive" toy from them from one of their brands. It reeked so bad that we had to put it in the garage for a while. Now when he was 3 or under, we could have gotten away with throwing it away right away but not now that he's older.

I didn't see where they said they were taking the chemicals out completely. I saw this:
In 2008, Toys “R” Us pledged to reduce the use of PVC plastic in toys and to offer more PVCfree toys.
Also, I see toys pictured, one is a barbie and is made by mattel, so just wondering if you don't shop anywhere that mattel toys are sold, or any of the other brands that are pictured?

As I said before, I know this can happen elsewhere. But no, I won't buy Mattel toys (this includes Fischer Price) after all the recalls they had a few yeas ago.

Toys R Us has their own brand of items and things that they have packaged just for them. They could easily ask for the ones made for them and by them to not contain the chemicals that are harmful. "PVC was also found in toys whose brands are owned by Geoffrey LLC, a subsidiary of Toys “R” Us, including You and Me dolls, Especially for Baby, and Sizzlin’ Time items."

It's a free market. TRU has every right to price products as they feel fit. People obviously pay the inflated prices, so good for TRU for finding a way to eek out more profit.

Nothing extra. LEGO at TRU is sold anywhere from 2.5 to 90% (yes, 90% in the case of one Harry Potter set), and is the same available elsewhere.

I think libinatorsmom's post was a general observation - look how many posts are agreeing with the OP - while disneydreamin247's responses seem to be addressed solely to/at libinatorsmom.

Anyway, I agree with you libinatorsmom. Sometimes it's funny to read all the "I'm never going to ______ with/at ______ ever again because they ______".

To everyone else: MSRP is the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Example? I wear a certain style of Easy Spirit shoe. Purchased direcly from them, the standard price is $59.99 (any size, any width). When I get them through a third party catalog, the same shoes are $69.99 for medium width and $74.99 for wide width - despite the manufacturer not charging a different price based on width.

Fair? No. Free market? You bet.

After this holiday season, I too am frustrated with TRU.

First issue: A full month before Christmas, they offered a free Cars2 3-pack when you bought 2 other Cars2 items. My GS is SO into Cars2 and I spent a lot of time picking out the 2 items - and then, they were out of the free item. Would they be getting more? "We don't know". Could I have a raincheck? "Nope". The manager did catch me on the way out and said I could bring my receipt and come back, and he'd give me the free item if they got it. I checked back FOUR times before Christmas, they never got it. BUT - here's the kicker - the kept advertising the free item both in the paper and all over the store.

Second issue: Bought a Nerf gun for another GS, and he got two of them. No problem, I have the receipt and he wants a different Nerf item. His dad takes it back, WITH THE RECEIPT, and he wasn't allowed to exchange it. He had to buy the other item, they credited my credit card for the original one, then I had to turn around and give him the $ for it. What's a receipt for, anyway? Poor customer service.

The free market argument works both ways. Why is it ok for a store to constantly overcharge but not ok for the customer to take their business elsewhere because of it?:confused3

Add in poor customer service, a pretty monumental website screw up that resulted in considerable hassle for me... and you are right... it's a free market and I and others have the right to take business elsewhere. Op wasn't telling any of you to stop shopping there.. she was sharing frustration.:confused3

Are we reading the same report? TRU agreed (offered?) to reduce the PVC products they sell and packaging used. They can't actually control what the toy manufacturers do; toys are what they sell, so if they reduce or eliminate products containing or packaged in PVC, there goes the bulk of their business (referring to the poster predicting TRU/BRU will be OOB within five years). Don't kid yourselves, either. TRU banning PVCs won't reduce them. Other retailers will just jump in.

Who said it wasn't okay? I simply share liberinator's opinion about the "I'm never going to [deal with] ______ Company ever again because they ______!!!!" camp.

Here is why I won't shop Toys R Us anymore.

Took my Granddaughter to pick out a bike for her birthday. She picked it out, I took the ticket up to buy it. The computer said there were 2 in stock. They searched and searched and could not find it.

Finally I said "can I buy the display?" NOPE, they would absolutely not let me. They said I would have to order a bike and come back to pick it up once it comes in. Which is very hard to do as it is very far from our house anyway.
I questioned to the manager (had to ask for one) why I could not buy the display and he said "because then we won't have an example to show people when they come in." How dumb, you don't have any to sell them anyway!

So I am standing there with a broken hearted birthday girl who wanted her bike and only THIS bike! (no reasoning with a 8 yr old). There sits the bike, and I have cash in hand to fork over to them. So MAD!! I am thinking why don't YOU (the store) just order MORE bikes and sell me THIS one NOW??

I walked out and will never step foot there again. Not that they care.
