Im so over this Ice Bucket Challenge

I don't get paid for anything, not sure what you're talking about or where you get your information ... guidestar was setup so that people could look up a particualr charities information before making any donations to said charities to see exactly where their money is being funnelled.

I was trying to learn what VigLink is actually, but nvm, I think I get it now. Thanks for replying to me. Sorry if I offended you.

I'm getting a kick out of watching this whole thing. I haven't been nominated and doubt I will be because I am not on FAcebook much at all. Only to read, not to post! :)

However, you are the first person I have seen to bring up useless charities and I believe that unfortunately not one dime will help cure ALS. There is prevention for this particular disease but no one will ever hear of it.

So are you part of the cover up or just pushing a conspiracy theory?

Ok. for my second post let me quote my previous one:

" This is my first post on DISboards although I have learned so much from the wonderful people on this site over the years. I find this thread very timely in light of the long overdue increase in ALS awareness. My 38 yr old daughter has been fighting this disease for over a year, and it has turned our world upside down. Yet she continues to be the best wife, mother to her 2yr old and 5 yr old sons, daughter, sister and member of her community that she possibly can be. This ugly disease has taken her Arms, Legs, and Speech, but she is determined to create memories for her boys. We have been a Disney family for over 30 yrs and are hoping to visit as a family again in November. I want you all to know that this ice bucket challenge..as 'silly' as it may seem, ..has put a bit more hope in her eyes !!!

And yes, you can be sure that I will appreciate any advice that I find here that will help us with a very different WDW vacation !! "

Just want to thank everyone out there for their spirited opinions on this thread....anything to promote ALS awareness !!

Considering the heightened awareness everyone has to ALS these days, now would be a pretty perfect time to share that information.

Thank you for your re-post.
This must be such a difficult time in all your lives. I am sending a caring hug and some good thoughts your way.
For help with your vacation planning,
Here is a link to the DIS Disabilities Forum
http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

There are lots of nice people there that are glad to share information, or help you find answers to concerns and questions about planning a WDW vacation with challenges.
Your daughter sounds like an amazing mom and daughter. I hope your vacation is a time of sharing love, smiles, and making some precious memories together. :flower3:

So is merfordis ever going to come back and share how to prevent ALS? The neurologist I went to apparently doesn't have this information.

They've raised $42M so far according to the news tonight... It might not find a cure but hopefully it makes some headway to finding a cure.

Gwynne,
Thank you for your kind words, I knew I would get positive thoughts from Disney fans ! And, yes, I am amazed by my daughter's strength in facing this ugly disease.

I was just talking to DH about this thread and all the other negative feedback I have seen, and he said "are you kidding me? This is one of the greatest fundraising ideas since Alex's Lemonade Stand, do those same people begrudge and say mean things about that charity? Do they refuse or tell people to just donate and not buy the lemonade? Do they get angry at all the attention that brought to pediatric cancer?"

I don't know how I feel about this whole challenge. Do I understand it nope, am I glad that a charity is getting funds, yes I am. I do know however that I don't want ice thrown on me so I'd rather give.

It's so funny because all I hear is I don't want to give $100 so I'll just have ice water thrown on me instead. Sometimes you hear about the $10 sometimes you don't. The first thing my husband said was I don't want to give $100 so I'll take the challenge. I've been nominated 5 times so it's time to show what I've got. I told him I thought it defeated the purpose imo to take the challenge not to look bad in front of other people. Oh well, to each it's own!

Some people believe ALS occurs because of untreated Lyme disease. Lyme disease isn't very well understood and there's a lot of conspiracy-type stuff that goes around the internet suggesting that multiple sclerosis and ALS could be prevented if doctors/insurance would just start treating suspected Lyme cases more aggressively.

Since the thread got bumped again, here's the latest stats: (Just to keep reminding people that scrolling past some videos on facebook is a small price to pay for some pretty amazing viral fundraising!)

The ALS Association has received $79.7 million in donations compared to $2.5 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 25). These donations have come from existing donors and 1.7 million new donors to The Association
