I'm ready to move now......

............so in the course of just a couple of weeks.......

DH saw a 5+ ft. timber rattlesnake that got away before he could kill it.

Few days later he kills a 4 ft timber rattlesnake.

Monday I found a black widow spider on the front porch.

Last night DS's dog got bitten by a venomous snake.



So where can I go that has a moderate climate but no poisonous snakes, poisonous reptiles, or poisonous insects......would also like someplace that doesn't have wildlife that is going to eat me or my pets.

Ohio... no poisonous critters this direction. No wild animals to eat us or our pets. Moderate climate, well maybe not so much so. We have the "snow belt" for a reason

I moved 18 years ago from Wisconsin. Winter is a 9 month process up there!

I will suck up the winter (its only bad Jan and Feb, really), in order to not have to worry about snakes and spiders and all that other icky stuff!

We had tossed around the idea of moving to OH once upon a time - but doing a little digging on the DNR page turned me off to that. Same for moving to the Kansas City, MO area. Too many creepy crawlies (and things that slither!)!

Well..........I grew up in Ohio and they DO have snakes! Copperheads, for sure!

Hawaii does not have any snakes........and I never encountered any bugs either! Not sure I could handle "island fever" though! But it is a beautiful place!

Don't think the perfect place that you are looking for exsists!!!

I live in New York. Not bad on the reptile and insect front, but we do have bears and coyotes, and the coyotes are known to eat people's pets.

Maine's good too; haven't come across anything poisonous here, just have to look out for moose/deer crossing the road

I live in West Virginia... and I don't believe I've ever seen any of the creatures listed above.

I'm sure they are here... along with bears and mountain lines and the such... but I've never had a personal encounter with any of them.

DFW Texas, although the fire ants suck to the max. Good weather, you never see any wildlife or snakes really.

I know TX has 14 rattlesnake breeds that live there, however in the 3yrs we lived there I saw 2 snakes. One in park, a little green snake and another in my neighborhood.

When we moved back to MO last yr., I got caught up with my spiders, snakes and wildlife. The brown recluse's in my dd's bedroom were .

Iowa! No poisonous snakes, spiders, etc. No big animals to worry about, either.

I think you could find snakes and spiders just about anywhere in the United States, except for Hawaii. We have plenty here in Florida, but we've seen no more than we used to up in New York. New York has Timber Rattlesnakes and Copperheads for poisonous species, but the Copperheads don't usually exist about a certain elevation. The Ramapo Mountains, from which you can clearly see the NYC skyline, is home to one of the largest populations of those species in the U.S..

Generally, the more yard you have, the greater the chance is of having snakes. It's nice to live out where you can have a big yard, perhaps with a pond or stream, the privacy of woods or undeveloped land as a buffer, but there are trade-offs to everything. The colder states will still have snakes, but they will be less active, if at all, during the cold months. I suppose you could calculate the odds according to the number of cold months for any given place.

We live in the Catskills on a 1.3 acre parcel of land in the woods. We moved in 9 years ago. I have only seen 2 garter snakes the whole time we have lived here. We used to have the wood spiders the size of a mans hand and haven't seen them in years and they are horrible to kill. We do on occasion get other spiders but we have had a problem with mice - never had this problem before like this. I think it is all the rain forcing them inside this year. We have caught 3 now in the last couple of months. We do have bear - no feeding the birds during the summer, garbage cans in the garage, etc. We also have coy dogs - haven't seen any though.

I had a baby black snake in my room about a week ago and even though it was non-poisonous, I still freaked out a little bit. I wrapped it up in a towel and threw the towel in the garbage can outside. I can just imagine how I would have reacted to an actual poisonous snake, which we definitely have here in Florida.

Colorado wouldn't be a great place if you don't want wildlife encounters.

We have bears that eat little old ladies (poor woman was feeding the bears against many warnings and a few weeks ago became dinner herself), bears that enter houses, mountain lions that eat pets and the rare hiker, coyotes that eat pets, owls that eat pets, eagles that eat pets, hawks that eat pets, lots of rattlers, black widows and the list goes on....

Our summers are not too hot and our winters are usually not too bad (at least recently).

I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen any type of snake here. And those were all little garter snakes.

Not a valid argument. In the city the snakes have gang tattoos, and walk on two feet.

I would take my chances with insects that are mostly scared of me, not the other way around.
