I'm ready to move now......

Not a valid argument. In the city the snakes have gang tattoos, and walk on two feet.

I would take my chances with insects that are mostly scared of me, not the other way around.

Yeah, I had to rethink the city thing......kind of like being out away from everything, were it's quiet. Funny thing is, we live in the same area I grew up, two houses up actually.......we are the last house at the base of a mountain so it's pretty rural (only 3 houses on the entire road and you can't see any of them from anywhere on our property). As a kid we ran all through the woods, at all times of the year and never worried about snakes.....where thy there.....yes (got chased by a copperhead once.....actually I think he was running from me while I was running form him.....we just decided to go the same direction). But now, I'm always looking for them.....and the black widow's. Unrational fear. Maybe I just need to move into a glass box.

ya, we have the funnel web spiders. Hobos and brown recluse. I can not pick up the recycling bin anymore for fear of one being under there.

most things will run away, unless they are trapped. like if they are in the handle and I put my hand over the end...

I almost grabed a black widow that way last summer. DS said, "mom there's a black widow" pointing to something in the grass. I said, "no it's just a spider" without really looking. He said, "well it's got the red on it's belly (or back - I forget). So I looked and YIKES it was a black widow. So I reach for a shovel leaning against the back of the house, when I fell something....spider web.....and look and there is another one crawling on the handle.

Think we just need to find something safe to treat the yard with. Some of those things scare me (insect poisons).....we used some one year and then started finding dead birds......I was afraid they were eating the bugs that had been poisoned.....and the poison was killing the birds.:confused3

Anyway.....we live in a log house that is a constant battle to fight all types of bugs.....carpenter bees especially love to drill holes in the logs.....even with annual treating it's still hard to keep them away. I guess that is the draw for the spiders.

As for the snakes.....there is a wet weather spring behind our house that draws a lot of frogs.....plus being nestled right up against the base of an undeveloped mountain......

Note to self "if you ever build a new home......don't build a log home".
