"I'm in debt up to my eyeballs. Somebody help me."

This commercial cracks us up too! I haven't seen it in a long time, though.

OMG!!!! I love that commercial!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It reminds me of my neighbors..........

One time I recieved their Discover card statement in our mail but didn't realize it was theirs (we have a Discover card also). Well......I opened it and then proceeded to have a near heart attack. I immediately marched in the house and asked my poor hubby what in the hell he had done.....the balance was over 10,000!!!!!!

After my poor hubby professed innocence ten times over I really looked at the bill and saw it was my neighbors.....poor people......but atleast it wasn't ME!!!! :p

:earseek: :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: OMG!!

I haven't seen that commercial in a while. It does make me laugh, but I find it incredibly sad that people think that the "solution" is to get a home equity loan. Yeah, just keep spending more money than you make, and finance stuff for 30 years. Even things like lawn mowers that you won't have around in 10 more years. Ugh.

DH and I LOVE this one! It's definitely one of the all-time funniest, as far as we're concerned.

...poor people.

We have a large balance on our credit card...but it's my DH's truck. We got an obscene rate on the credit card so we transfered the balance. Maybe that is what they did too.

Having a $10,000 credit card bill does not mean you are in debt up to your eyeballs LOL! When I was traveling full time I could do that easy....
One Month equals four last minute plane tickets figure $800 each thats $3,200, hotel rooms figure $150 x 20 nights.. $3,000, Rental car at $200 a week $800. I am at $7,000 before meals, parking, etc.... It was easy.

Of course I got all of it reimbursed, but while it's on my card it's my debt!

People do sometimes get in over their heads and need some way to work their way out. Hopefully some of them even learn a lesson.

That poor man! I love the way he smiles so happily while he's describing his situation. :)

That's a great commercial!
And I agree that a large credit card bill isn't necessarily bad--we put everything on our card, but pay off the balance monthly. So yes, there's always a gasp as we open the bill, but then write the check and start over next month... (Gotta earn those miles somehow! :) )

I don't think refinancing your home is neccessarily a bad idea if you are in debt. If you owe 10K on credit cards you are probably paying 15% and you don't get to deduct any interest from that. It would take a long time to pay off. If you can refinance your home, pay off your credit card, change your spending habits so you don't have credit card debt anymore than your in better shape. Now you are paying less % in interest and you can deduct the interest at tax time. And you should have more $ at the end of the month so that you don't have to use that credit card. And the 10K will be paid off faster. The key is changing your habits once you've made the decision to refinance.

The lawn mower example is good except that once the lawnmower got on their credit card and its not being paid off you are already keeping it around longer than it should, paying high interest and its more difficult to get yourself out of the hole because you are shelling out XXX amount every month to the credit card company.

Just my thoughts on this issue.

I don't think I've seen the commerical yet though but it sounds funny.

I crack up each and every time I see the "I'm in debt up to my eyeballs" commercial! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

But the majority of people in that position couldn't find that key even if it was already in their keyhole.

The re-finance option is usually the push towards rock bottom since they continue their terrible ways with their house now in jeopardy.

Haven't seen the commercial yet. Sounds hilarious though!

I'm waiting for the day when it's actually cool to have 401ks, IRAs, and ESAs -- then maybe I'll be able to brag back.

I think it's cool! :cool1: Brag away!

Myst

I have seen this commercial a lot of times. But everytime I see it, I laugh out loud. Even if I'm the only one here. I know it's not a funny topic -- it's sad and it really happens. But this lawnmower man just cracks me up. I have no idea why..... :rotfl2: Anyone else laugh at this guy or at other commercials?

DH and I crack up every time we see that commercial. :rotfl2:

Same here! DH and I will be flying to Hawaii for free when we get ready to go.

We do too!! :rotfl:

We also love the commercial with the couple who have agreed to live in a tiny house where everything is too small - it's supposed to be advertising a new reality show. For some reason I actually LOL on this one even though it's actually a Geiko commercial. I thought it would make a good reality show. :teeth: :rotfl:

LOL I thought the same thing about "the Tiny House" What a funny reality show that would be. I am sure the show will really make it to TV.

I also think "I'm in debt up to my eyeballs" commercial is so funny. Keeping up with the Jones' is a hard lifestyle to maintain!!
