Thoughts on trackless rides / future of dark rides?

Do you prefer the experience of a trackless ride, or a track/boat ride?

Personally, I like the idea of trackless more than the actual experience. It's like I'm cruising around a warehouse on an oversized Roomba or something?

I still prefer riding track/boat rides; maybe it's the nostalgia factor.

Followup question: What is the future of dark rides? What else can they do with trackless that hasn't been done, or other new technologies that will blow our minds?

I think it depends on the attraction. I understand the part about cruising around a warehouse since the trackless vehicles can roam anywhere and thus you are sometimes further away from the scene. Some of these trackless systems do well though. In particular, Mystic Manor and Remy.

I don't really mind the difference as long as the scenery/theming is great. I do feel like there is call to revisit the good ol' Omnimover style of ride for something new.

It's not really new. World of Energy had that in 1982 and The Great Movie Ride 1989. It's not so much the future as it is the past and present. (i.e. Tower of Terror, Mickey and Minnie's runaway railway and Rise of the Resistance)
