For the past 2 months, I've been on this forum almost every day...reading, studying, contemplating, calculating, etc. I probably crossed over into the OCD level of it. I've been driving poor Sandisw crazy with my up and down saga, through PM's. Well, except that she has the patience of a saint...so she's been kind to me.

Deciding I want to buy into DVC, then two weeks later they make this big announcement, then trying to find the perfect contract for the UY I want in the middle of a shift from being a buyer's market to being a seller's market was kind stressful. Heck, if I got paid for the amount of effort I've put into my time researching this, I'd be well off right now!!

Finally got an accepted offer on a nice OKW contract and was about to sign the paperwork. Still wasn't feeling complete peace about it so I decided to pray. I asked God to show me a sign if this isn't something I'm supposed to do.

Then...yesterday, my AC died. Gonna cost about what I was willing to pay for a DVC contract. I definitely can't afford both so I'm glad this happened before I signed the contract.

But now I'm super :sad1:. No DVC for me this year. :sad1: Hopefully next year will be my year. DH likes staying at Pop and loves their food court so he wasn't fully on board with the DVC thing anyway. Maybe another year in a value resort will be enough to win him over to the kitchen, laundry, bigger bed, separate room and themed pools with slides.

I'm feeling so  over this but I know it's the right thing. I did ask God for a sign. :)

Good luck to everyone trying to get in before the 3/20 deadline. I wish you all great success. I'll still be around on the forum. But I won't be in the "almost ready to buy" mode.

Wow, either that's a lower costing DVC contract or a pricy AC, but either way that really sucks to hear... Maybe 4+1 in Powerball/Megamillions will come your way and you can do both ;-)

You could always try the Moderate resorts or renting as well if you want to treat yourself. I don't think the rentals are all that off from the Value pricing, but I haven't priced out value resorts for a few years. Something to consider anyway.

Sorry to hear about your unexpected AC expense. Well, you know that DVC isn't going anywhere and there will always be resale contracts for sale. I've let a few contracts that I wanted go by due to other more pressing things to spend money on, so I totally understand.

I think that renting at a DVC would be great to get a taste of it and then you can compare accommodations. Maybe that experience would swing DH toward DVC so that you can both be on board when the time is right. And at least you have done all of your research so you will be ready if it's the right thing to do later on!

I highly reccomend renting points as well! I rented a few times before I bought my contract, and it really helped mw get comfortable with the system. It wasn't too long before I knew I had to be an owner! Good luck!

So sorry to hear Figment... Everything happens for a reason, right???? Sending you hugs.

Here's an idea...Move to the Yukon, then you won't need the AC AND you can buy the points!

;)

It's far better to thoroughly research DVC and not buy than to buy without really looking at all the implications of such a decision. I would hate to see you jump in, then have a major real-world problem like the AC and find yourself in a big financial bind.

Even though we'd love to have you aboard and hate to see you disappointed, you are probably a good candidate for "Smart Prospective Buyer of the Month!"

DVC will still be there when you're ready, and you made the right decision.

Good luck.

Ok, so I am reading your message and saying to myself, oh how sad, her AC died....then I realize I have no idea what AC stands for in message board lingo. :confused3 So I start thinking, her Aunt Claire...her Angry Cat....I was thinking, wow, she must be really bummed about the cost of the funeral....

It wasn't until I read more messages that I realized you were talking about Air Conditioning! I guess here in the Northeast my brain is NOT on those things needed to deal with the heat or real life abbreviations! Sorry to hear about the cost!

Well said :thumbsup2 I am sorry to hear of your AC problems! It really stinks when unexpected, expensive repairs come up. Our car has been good for that one lately ;) However it does seems as though you were never 100% comfortable with a DVC purchase at this time which is why you needed guidance from a Higher Power. :) We almost purchased a couple of times in the last few years but didn't for various reasons. Finally this last June we became members. DVC will be here when you are ready to become a member. In the mean time I am sure you can share your experience with those other newbies who will be looking for similar advice.

Take Care.

Hey, when you get a sign like that after praying about it, I'd definitely hold off. ;)

DVC will still be here and if and when the time is right, it will work out. You could always rent points from a member, too, and have your husband stay in a SSR studio to see the difference between Pop Century. SSR has Artist's Palette that reminds me of a food court.

Good luck. :goodvibes

:rotfl2: I was thinking the same way!

I have been following your posts since we were looking at resales at the same time. You did the research, and that is so important. Now you will know when the right one comes along and you are ready to go for it next time. DVC will still be there for you next year.

DVC will still be here if or when circumstances change. I agree with others better to err on the side of caution. I love my DVC but also loved my value resort stays too!

Sometimes life gets in the way of the things we want. You've done your research and come to the conclusion that DVC is right for you and your family so I believe that when the time is right you'll get there! Don't loose hope and best of luck to you!

I am so sorry that this has happened.

But you know what? Disney is not going anywhere, and when you're ready to buy, I'm sure there'll be another contract out there which is perfect for you.

It took me a long while to buy into DVC too, I know what you're saying when you mention OCD research, etc... Can drive you nuts! :headache: When I finally decided to take the DVC plunge, I knew it was the right time -- just received a work bonus, and all other frivolous expenses were paid off. Most importantly, I had saved just enough $$ to pay in full and did not have to finance. I knew the timing was right then, and we have enjoyed our points tremendously since.

You'll get there, just keep the faith and remember what that little green cricket always says, "You know, any wish is possible. All it takes is a little courage to set it free - A wish is a powerful thing, especially when it comes from the heart."

Good Luck!

Jen

not so good about the ac, we dont need it here in scotland but i can imagine it would be a bit pricey. i think you definitely need to have some money left over after you buy your dvc points just for a rainy day. but it is well worth buying them

So sorry to hear of your unexpected expense FF. Just wanted to echo the others who suggested that renting points or a res. at a DVC resort may be an option to acquaint your spouse with staying DVC-style. Use it to find out if DVC is an option that's right for your family.

I can sense your frustration in your post, but the time will be right for you some time down the road.:)
