I'm bringing a cot and toaster to ASSp

I hate these threads. Threads where people who aren't disney speak for disney. When I have a question like "can I bring a toaster?" I call disney. I just did that by the way. I called ASSP and the phone was picked up by a guest services CM. I said I was coming in July and my children liked toast in the morning, was it a problem, or were there any rules against, bringing my toaster. The CM said there were no rules against it. She said if she were driving she would bring a toaster, a coffee maker, and a cooler for milk and such. She stated it would be a great way to save some of the expense, especially since the ice is free. BTW - her name was Peggy.

So OP it looks like the ASSP resort would be fine with you bringing your toaster. It's apparently not near the problem for them as it is for the people on this board. And before someone tries to say that this CM is wrong and you are right. I'm taking the word of Disney. They are the ones who get to make and enforce or not enforce the rules, so their word is the one that matters to me.

I did not want to say anything but I to had called Disney yesterday and again....they said not a probem and even offered to get me a microwave. so yes, it is fine by Disney....all 20 something times I have asked! I feel so much safer with a toaster next to me then a smoker!!!

For one of the values they said yes? I'm surprised..especially at the offer of the micro.

coffee pots in POR turn off automatically after a short time, so I assume that is why those are in the rooms.

One-cups shut off as soon as the coffee is made - but I always unplug it anyhow until I'm going to use it again.. Like I said - I'm paranoid about electrical fires.. Drives my son-in-law nuts when he wants to use it here, at home or wherever..

The hotel fire I was talking about was caused by a hotel coffee maker - not one someone brought. I was just pointing out how when you are on vacation and coping with cramped quarters things like this can happen - and why I'm extra fire paranoid now!

As for the toaster, I don't know what their stand is on that, but if I wanted to bring one I would just ask them beforehand and then take it from there.

I guess that settles all the mug questions now..no one ever says no if you ask if you can reuse it..even though that isn't written policy I know many people don't want their room to smell of food (and I'm not talking of burning the toast..just the smell of a several pieces of toast, gets into the fabric of such a tight room, so I wouldn't do it just for that curtesy). After all, what's next, the toaster oven or micro with the fish dinner? I don't cook in my bedroom, and I would be disappointed to find Disney has changed their views on cooking in the rooms not equipped for it. Next they'll be bringing slow cookers and washing the chilli containers in the bathtub LOL!

That's why it's so important for people to ask ahead of time or ask when they get there.. If the answer is yes, then they're good to go - if not, then they have to leave (well - "should" leave) the items in their car, luggage or whatever..

However, if Disney tells someone it's okay to lug in a George Forman grill; crock pot; toaster oven; microwave or whatever, then the people who find those odors offensive or troublesome (or are concerned for their own safety) will have to consider accomodations elsewhere.. It's like that conversation we were having a week or so ago - about the cigars at POR.. That would cause a real problem for me (migraines) so if I determine from these boards that it's a widespread issue at that particular resort I'll have to look at other options..

Maybe because you don't have food courts they have upgraded the wiring etc. I don't know. I just sent another letter to guest services asking about this, so I'll be anxious to hear what they say. I know a lot of places off site have micro's etc, but I assume they are set up that way, and have the appropriate wiring, smoke detectors etc. I have to say, if the cooking in rooms becomes overrun at Disney, I would start to look elsewhere to stay. An argumentative person and their foreman grill was removed at a value this week. When we were there a few years ago, an entire family was cooking and greasing up the walkway out their door (and mine) at Music, and if I remember right, nothing was done to stop them.

just an honest story:

One day I made a chicken recipe in my crock pot. I put the lid on and left my house to go to the YMCA for an hour step areobic class...well, when I got back an HOUR later, sparks were flying from my crockpot!!! SERIOUSLY sparks all over and smoke!! So I did something probably not smart and unplugged the crock it was near flames!!! After I did this I noticed that by accident, part of the cord from the crock had got caught somehow in the lid of my pot and melted and this is what started the sparks!!! I am not lying or kidding, this is true. I am, as we all would say, a normal rational person who makes mistakes and because I was hurried to get to class and had 5 kids w me I probably did not take the time to check like I should have, my set up. THANK GOD I was gone only an hour as most times I for two and then go to store and things after that, who knows what could have happened to our new home and all of our belongings. That most certainly would have caught fire...the lord had my back on this one that is for sure!! Can you imagine how much guilt I would be carrying if I had caught my home on fire?? I am not taking sides on this issue, to each his own...a toaster is different than a crock pot...a crock pot is left on and alone all day and we can be assured at Disney you wouldn't be back in your room in an hour to check your food...I now never leave my house while using the crock pot EVER...you just never know what could happen and fortunately my house would've been empty but what if it were a crowded building with thousands of young children and parents???? I just thought I would share a personal story

If I smelled smoke or burning toast and thought it was a fire, I would call the front desk, not the fire department.

That smell will permeate through every room around you. If someone burned toast in a room adjacent to me, I'd probably call the fire department just to embarress the heck out of them for being so freaking inconsiderate when there's a toaster available for public use in the food court. My guess is that even if the resort management didn't do anything about it, the fire department would remove the appliance from your room.

If I smelled something burning, I'd call the fire department. Why is that so hard to understand. It would not be embarassing to me, but to the people who were cooking in a room not equipped for cooking that caused the burning smell. Those would be the people in trouble, not me. OK. First you said you would smell burnt (sic) toast and call the FD to "embarress the heck out of them". Then you say you would call the FD to report "the smell of smoke". There is a huge difference between the smell of burned toast and smoke.

Don"t "Duh" me when you are the one contradicting yourself. The policy evidentally with Disney is they don't care about the toaster. If you are concerned about it, it is your choice not to stay at the resorts to press your personal feelings contradictory of Disney policy. (And with your home in Clermont, why are you even talking about staying at a Disney Resort?)

I agree with disneyworld!: I feel so much safer with a toaster next to me then a smoker!!!

If you bother to read the posts inbetween those two you'll see that I said I should have worded my first post better. I would call the fire department if I smelled ANYTHING burning. I would be amused when my neighbors were reprimanded by the FD for creating a hazard.

Personally, rather than taking the word of a front desk CM who's possibly been on the job exactly three hours, maybe someone should call the Reedy Creek FD and talk to the fire marshall about it. After all, theirs is truly the final word.

As far as why I stay at WDW sometimes, frankly, that's none of your business. And yes, I do stay there sometimes, even though my house is a birdseye view away.
