I read that Illuminations is about the history of the earth. As a Christian, I believe in creation not evolution or big bang or whatever. Is this show going to be offensive to me and something I'm not going to want my children to see? Could someone give me more info about what is said or shown? I've read and can find no specifics.

Thanks so much!

I didn't see anything to reflect creation or evolution. Mainly it showed people from around the world.

I wouldn't miss it. The music is fabulous. :)

illumintations is a tough one to explain, but suffice it to say that if it has been discribed to you as a history of the earth, it is very artistic and vauge. there is no reference to the big bang theory, evolutionism or creationism. just a very creative, artistic, beautiful presentation. i can't see where it would offend anyone.

just as a frame of reference, i am also a Christian who chooses to send my child to a school with a religious curriculum. I have never found illuminations to be anything but wonderful and awe inspiring.

go and have a great time.

Yippee!! :Pinkbounc It sounded great, but I didn't want to go see something that was contrary to my beliefs. I'm so excited we don't need to miss this exciting show! Thanks for your help! That was exactly the info I needed.

Hey Lori, I like your name!

I am also a serious Christian and can tell you that Illuminations is in no way offensive. In fact, it's my personal favorite fireworks show at WDW. I've never detected any anti-Christian or pro-secular theme in it.

I strongly recommend that you do your best to get priority seating at the Rose & Crown restraunt in the Enland pavillion for as close to 8:00 p.m. as is possible. Ask to be seated outside and as close to the water as possible. Your meal should be finishing close to when Illuminations start leaving you with a comfortable unobstructed view of the show while enjoying hot chocolate ( on a cool night ) or ice cream ( on a warm night ). Definetly one of our favorite things to do on every WDW trip.

Even the names of the movements within the musical score can be interpreted either way.

I think the overlying theme is people, progress, and a little bit of "Hand in Hand" thrown in.

I REALLY shouldn't ask this but...

I am not a dedicated Christian. I have feelings that make me question some of the teachings that I was brought up on. But I still attend and enjoy the Candlelight Processional.

If Illuminations, was supposed to represent evolution, rather than creation, would you really not go see it?

Maybe this is something for another thread. I hate religious (or any) debate, just wondering. A simple "Yes" or "No" will do.

Thanks,
Ted

I had heard that Illuminations is about the people of Earth coming together as one global community. There may be some truth to the origin of the universe theory, but I haven't heard that explanation.

Illuminations has always conveyed a very Christian message to me....It is about world unity and harmony. God's peace on the earth. Certainly, people of other faiths may be able to see a message there as well! I can only speak for my Christian self!

It is an absolutely beautiful attraction....Don't miss it!

Illuminations is about the creation and history of the earth and everything in it. It does begin with a big bang, but there are no voices that come over to state that this is not an act of God.

It really can be interpreted to be religious or scientific. There is a 'scene' that shows the beginning of the human race, but there's nothing that says whether the feet shown come from Adam or someone who evolved from an ape.

Illuminations is a fantastic experience. Nobody should miss it, and it's a shame that so many people don't 'get' it. "ooh, pretty" they say. I have to shake my head.

There you are in the World Showcase, in the middle of all these replicas of the countries, and in the middle of all these people - tourists and cast members - who are all speaking different languages, and you are shown a presentation of the history of the world in lights, fireworks, lasers, fire, and water. It is very moving. You get a sense of "we're all in this together" - a sense of the world coming together for a common purpose of making the world a better place to live in, with a common history and themes that bind us all together.

It really is extraordinary, and if it doesn't touch your heart, you're pretty much either stupid, or emotionally dead.

If Illuminations, was supposed to represent evolution, rather than creation, would you really not go see it?

It would depend on how blatant the references were. I'd have to think about it quite a bit. That's why I'm thankful for the responses from other Christians with similar views. One reason is that I think it would be slapping my God in the face if I, knowing the Truth, went to see a production celebrating how others have said the earth came to be. When this celebration takes away from His majesty and wonders, I can't see how this could be pleasing to Him. 2nd - I would not want to confuse my children. 3rd - There are too many other wonderful things to do in DisneyWorld to spend time watching something I don't believe in or agree with.

I hope this answers your question. I'm sorry you have questions from your childhood. Could I help? I'd love to chat. PM me if you'd like. I promise, no pressure, just discussion. I pray you'll find answers to your questions.
