Illuminations on September 11th?

Has anyone been to Epcot in the past couple years on the 11th of September...do they do anything differently? do they still have Illuminations on that date or do they do something else?

i apologize if this is a dumb question, i have seen that it's listed on the schedule for this year on that date but i was wondering if they did anything in any of the parks besides the flag ceremony in the MK? (and are they doing that this year?)

I would like to know too, as I was in the MK on 9/11 and we would like to attend something special that day if there is anything...

I do not think this is a "dumb" question at all. We are arriving on Sept 11th this year and this is something that I thought of also. Will there be anything special at the American pavillion at EC. We were at EC one year for July 4th and the American Advanture pavillion was great and the night time fireworks were also special.

I think if they do something it should be a tasteful tribute. Maybe fly the flags at half mast.

I was at WDW last year on 9/11. MK had a special flag retreat ceremony around 5:00 pm that day. It was a very nice tribute with the Voices of Liberty singing, a speech made, the marching band playing, and the actual flag retreat. I also attended Illuminations that night and it was just the regular show.

As for whether they're doing the flag retreat again this year, I don't know. I just know they did it on both the 1st and 2nd anniversaries of 9/11.
