If your luggage gets home 4 hrs after you - do you tip the guy that delivers it home?

DH got home from a work trip about 4 hours ago. His luggage didnt make it. Someone just called and they are bringing it to our house. Do we tip them? We're thinking not since it's not our fault. What do the wise DISers say?
 
I had late baggage delivered to Pop when at WDW... didn't have a chance to tip the guy, and wouldn't anyways.
 
I don't tend to tip. Given that most people are mildy peeved at best to be receving late luggage, that they don't expect it.

Can't speak for all times but I know our pharmacy couier guy had to make a luggage run a few times and I know he is paid pretty darn good for that ( he shares way more than I care to know )
 

We haven't. 4 hours is nice! Took 24 hours or more each time it's happened with DH's suitcase in the last 6 or so months... Didn't even occur to me to tip, and the second time was the time I met the luggage deliverer...he just wanted my signature and then he was already walking backwards as I handed him the pen...I don't think he was wanting/expecting anything.
 
Yes I tip. It's not expected but then if they went to all the trouble to hand deliver my luggage instead of make me go fetch it from an airport, it's the least I could do. It's just nice.
 
Dol you tip the Pizza delivery person? Why on earth would you not tip someone bringing your luggage to you? It wasn't his / her fault that it was late. They could make hubby go back to the airport to fetch his luggage.

while it may not be his/her fault that the luggage was late....I likely paid a large sum of extra money to get my bags from pt A to pt B only to have them lose my luggage. Im not paying extra to someone for their mistake.

This isnt a pizza that I ordered and paid $15 for and just didnt feel like driving out myself to pick up for dinner.

If we are using a pizza example...if you paid for pizza #1 and it came and was delivered but wasnt right would you tip the driver who brought you the wrong pizza (maybe)....now 2 hours later when they bring you out the right pizza, are you going to tip the 2nd (likely different) driver as well. Im sure some of you would (just cause some of you all seem to tip for EVERYTHING), but I know I wouldnt tip the 2nd guy b/c while it's not his fault the order had to be redone, it was an inconvience to me to have to wait the extra 2 hours for his company to make it right.
 
I'm just curious--does anyone know how much lost luggage delivery people make??? I know the pizza delivery boy doesn't make much and a tip is expected as part of his wage, but maybe their tip is already built-in to what the airline pays the lost baggage delivery person??? It seems like two different things to me. You are asking for a pizza to be delivered to you for your convenience. You don't HAVE to get a pizza at all. But it is not your fault the airlines lost your luggage and they have to pay someone to deliver it. My luggage has been lost a few times and the airline (and once a cruise line) always sent it to me--I was never expected to go back to the airport and get it and I think they are responsible for getting it to you under the common carrier rules. I don't know--it seems like the airline should be paying for it all, not me.
 
My Dh and I had this same conversation after our last vacation. I said no because they lost our luggage on the way to our destination and the way home. I was totally feed up with united airlines. However in the end we did end up tipping the guy who delivered the luggage to our house at 10:30 pm.

Yes I would still tip the delivery person - it wasn't their fault. I don't tip everyone.

That seems to help answer the payment question for at least one airline....

Of course I would tip the second driver! He is providing a service to me. If I did not want to tip, I could have gone to pick it up myself.

Yes I would tip the baggage delivery guy.
