Yep, my tip would be to get me my bags while at the carousel, not 4 hours later. I realize it isn't the delivery person's fault and I wouldn't be mean to him but I am not going to pay more to have a bag delivered that I:
1.) most likely paid an absurd baggage charge for in the first place
2.) would have just picked up and carried out of the airport myself for free had their airline done their job.
What he makes is between him and his employer. If it is not sufficient for living he needs to renegotiate his wage. I am not subsidizing it for a service I didn't even want. This isn't the same as having someone help you to your car with your bag and tipping, that is a service you solicited.
Outside of restaurants and bars there are very few things I tip for. I think people need to do a better job during their salary negotiations instead of relying on a handout from me. Luckily gratuity is just that, gratuity and not mandatory.
The first guy who brought the wrong pizza was providing (poorly) a service you requested. If you didn't want to tip you would have gone to pick that one up. The second guy was fixing the screw up made by someone in the company. I am not going to pay more because of someone else's incompetence and I'm not going to inconvenience myself and go get the second pizza because someone couldn't read or take an order correctly.
When something happens at work to inconvenience a customer we correct the problem at our expense, we don't expect the customer to pitch in his own cash because someone dropped the ball. That is poor customer service.
