Which one would you choose and why?

Also, what do you think would be some drawbacks to living in that period?

I would choose ancient Egypt. I would choose it because I am very interested in the time and I would like to see the construction of the pyramids and great temples. The Egyptians were so similiar to us, really, in so many ways. I think they would have enjoyed living today. They enjoyed life, they did not fear death. They had their extensive list of gods and goddesses whom they worshipped with the same love and devotion people worship with today. They were motivated. They were artists and architects. Women had considerable power. They had a fascinating view of the afterlife. I think it would be interesting to witness their daily lives.

I know some drawbacks would be the obvious lack of medical knowledge (although they were quite revolutionary in their medicine). And the desert heat would be brutal.

So what about you all? When would you pick?

I find most periods of history fascinating. my college degree is in history.

I suppose my choice would depend on where in the social hierarchy I could be.

example:

the medieval world fascinates me, but I certainly wouldn't feel the same if I were a serf! the gentry and townspeople had fairly interesting and comfortable lives, though.

And they had some cool outfits. Clothing was so much more elegant back then.

Regency period, and in England. I love the whole Jane Austin and Thomas Hardy stuff. Just spent today at a georgeous manor in Dorset, and the portraits of the women from that period just take my breath away.

I have always though t I would like to live during the old west period, maybe 1870s or 80s. I like the outdoors, hunting, & being around animals.

I'd have to say anytime from now back to the 1950's or so. I might not want to switch at all, in fact. I like having electricity, indoor plumbing, and air conditioning. I also like the fact that certain ethnic, socioeconominc, and gender inequalities are no longer as bad as they once were. And before anyone says so, I know that if I lived back before the first 3 things I listed that I wouldn't know to miss them :).

I was born at EXACTLY the right time. Disney, The Beatles, DW... and I would want what to be different?:D

I would have to say the fifities!! Women did not dress llike hoochies, children respected their parents because they were not raised by a bar mom, drive in's and cool cafe's, poodle skirts and when you wore your B's highschool ring it still meant something.

I'm going with the 1950's as well. It seemed like such a simple and happy time in history.

I'm a woman of convience, I couldn't live in the non-electrical age, or the age where people only bathed sporadically!

The victorian era for me. Maybe the 1880's or 1890's. I love everything about that time period. The fashion, arcitecture. It would be great if I was someone wealthy in that time period;)
Some of the mansions:earseek: The beautiful dresses. Tea on the porch.:teeth:

I guess a drawback would be lack of modern medicine.

Victorian era for me too.. but I would definitely have to live upstairs and not downstairs as the hired help.

I love anything Victorian. ;) :D

I also love the Victorian Era. Wouldn't it have been fun to have been a Gibson Girl? I love that hairstyle of the era.

I could think of a lot of other interesting time periods too. Some good things about Colonial America too.

I would like to live in the late 1800's and travel west in a wagon train and set up a homestead. That period has always fascinated me.

I agree with the others that would like to have lived in the 50's. I was actually born in the 50's but would like to have the simpler way of life that the 50's seems to be about.
I also think there are many eras that I would love to visit but I am too much of a convenience gal for the hardships that some of our anscestors lived.
I would love to see the way my anscestors lived in Ireland....see the family ties, the language, and customs.....but I sure would not want to have to live the hard life that most of them lived.

::yes::

My parents grew up in the segregated south during the 50s and 60s. For them it was not a happy, go lucky time.

If I could pick a period to live in it would be Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance. I'd love to interact with my favorite poets
Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks.

Major drawbacks would be race relations and the great depression.:(

wild west era, used to be a western reinactor,, created a living history character that was a river boat/traveling gambler. always loved that time period in history:)

1950 era for me. I think it would have been so cool being a teenager back then.

I think I would liked to have experienced the 1920's 30's etc the 20's through the 50's seen exciting to me and there were so many advances . imagine going from new automobiles to seeing airplanes flying overhead and then riding on airplanes when they were new! that must have been exciting and scary! Then also all the space exploration at that time.

the pioneer days seem interesting but too rough for me!

The 40's. Love the music, the whole patriotic war effort thing...truly the Greatest Generation of people lived in the 40's.

The Regency period is amazing! The houses, the people, and so much happened. But I would have to be rich, definately want to be a Lady instead of a servent or (gasp) in trade! The only drawback would be medical knowledge (I had two csections and that would have been a problem).
