any pressure to sell? :teeth:

We bought at $65/point in 1999 and a $30/point increase would give us a pretty nice capital gain even if I factor in a broker's commission. And that's not even considering all of the great vacations we took. It might even work out to "free" lodging!

I do realize that the resale market isn't going for $95 per point right now, but still!!!!

I'm not really serious about selling just yet, but DH might be if he finds out the new price. I should be safe until DVC mails out the notification letter. Hoping I have a few weeks to get my arguments all ready!

So - is anyone else considering a sale? Or getting ready for a debate about it with a co-owner? :teeth:

Not at all. Just validates how financially astute we were back in "the day"! Hey, "the day" wasn't that long ago!:teeth:

We also bought into DVC in early 1999($65)...but have no intentions of selling. I also look for re-sales to climb also.::yes::

We have never seriously discussed it, but have joked about it from time to time. Since we bought in 1992 we could make a pretty penny. Between the profit from the sale and factoring in the 8 years of free park passes we received we could sell now and have made some money above and beyond the initial investment and the dues for the last 12 years. It would be slightly temping if the resale market contines to rise as it has.

Oh no sell!!!! NEVER! :-) Wow we bought at $58/point (I think).

Heck, it makes me feel like I was a financial wizard just 6 weeks ago -- back in "our day." This is the first time I've ever managed to get into something at the perfect time.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, everything is for sale. But not at $95.00. And I didn't pay $65.00.

You never know...............

Gigashadow Mantra : Never say Never !

We have alot of points thinking that we would snowbird for 6 to 8 weeks each winter at WDW but we are also considering a retirement to FL so we would only need enough points for visits......so.....maybe when it is time, in the next 6 -8 years we will sell at a profit if the price keeps raising the way it does. Who would of thought`

Pre $65 here...and no not selling...

No way!!!

I could never sell and go back to pre-DVC Disney days. All that worrying about codes. It is enough to drive you nuts!!!

Keep in mind that the $65 you paid in 1999 would be about $75 today if you figure an annual 3% inflation factor.

In other words if you would sell, and AFTER paying any selling fees, you would wind up with $75 per point, then basically you got back exactly what you paid, no more, no less.

Another way to look at it is this: Suppose in 1999 you bought 300 points for $19500. Instead of buying Disney you could have bought a car for $19500. Today you sell Disney and NET $75 and receive $22500. It looks like you made a profit, but that $22500 is in 2004 dollars, not 1999 dollars. That is, to buy a new car in 1999 would have been $19500, but today, the equivalent car would cost $22500.

I've heard that real estate fees are about 11% so that means, if you purchased at $65, you'd have to sell at about $83 just to break even where the money you received after fees would have the same purchasing power today that the $65 had in 1999. You would only make a profit if you could sell higher than $83/point.

Hope that makes sense.

P.S., and yes, Disney has definitely raised their prices much more than regular inflation.

We're certainly not considering selling our points but we have definately decided NOT to do another add on. As much as we love our DVC we can't justify the cost now. We'll just make do with the points we have (which actually serves us quite well.).

We get all warm and fuzzy thinking about it... No way we are selling... just tickled we got 'in' when we did....

Edited for grammar

We bought in at $54 and, no, we aren't selling. We like our vacations! We are getting closer to retirement, and we plan to continue enjoying the accommodations that we have become accustomed to. We just sold 105 pt add-on, but that was to pay off another contract, so now all contracts are owned free and clear.:teeth:

I bought in at $67 originally, but I keep adding on(at more than $67:( The way my luck is, the minute I decide to sell, the price will bottom out. Out of consideration for all my fellow DVC'ers, I'll hang on to all my contracts so everyone else can continue seeing an increase in value!

I bought at $65 in 1999. I haven't considered selling but it's comforting to know I could if I needed to and get a decent amount.

Absolutely NOT! We purchased at less the $65, and I just think it makes us feel like we got the best deal possible!

Bought in 1992 at $51.50. Really, if I sold and made a little $$$, so what...it would be eaten up quickly if I stayed the same number of nights per year at a Delux in a room not nearly as comfortable.

I'm not gonna sell unless 1)my vacation habits change substantially -or- 2)I find myself in a financial bind.
