If Not By Sea then By Run-June '14 Cruise/Oct '14 ToT 10 Miler/Feb '15 PHM PTR

So.....

I came home from work today to a package. Hubby hands it to me and says "what is Sparkle Skirt?" (big sticker on outside of box). :confused3

Um..... (remember, I have not told him about the PHM weekend yet!)....

So I dodge the question..and open it...

And all it's wonders are revealed.....

And he says "What is this for?" :confused3

My reply "A costume" for running....

Him. "A Villian Costume? What Villian looks like that?"

Crickets chirp. Um... Ahhhh..... :rolleyes1

Me: It's not for the villain race.

Hub: Then what is it for?

Me: (in a quick breath) Princess Half Marathon Weekend next Feb. princess:

Then I try to run out the room......

But alas, he cornered me. And I had to spill the beans of my trip.

Drat- I was waiting for him to reveal his 2015 Canadian Fishing Trip to spring this on him. (especially after our LARGE vet bill from last week!)

So the secret is out.... now he knows! He could actually have cared less too. Just rolled his eyes and said...

wait for it...

"I thought you said you were never running a race again?"

Oh, how I love to eat crow! :lmao:

She is so pretty! I love that color of red...I have been secretly trying to figure out who you are going to be. But I am drawing a blank!

BUSTED....:rotfl2: but at least he just rolled his eyes! How fitting was the picture I sent you with his reaction. But wait till you start getting lots of those little sparkle boxes...:scared1:! Then he will know you have totally lost it! Who said running was a cheap sport...the shoes are terribly expensive, the race fees are out of this world, sparkle skirt costumes...but all of this is priceless when you are eating your cupcake wearing some bling!

The picture is PERFECTO. I thought that exactly when he said that.

I really thought he might pitch more of a fit with this news - I had a speech all ready... "Christmas present, Birthday present, Bonus money (my bonus money)".

And he was totally :cool2: - just wanted to throw my words back at me & laugh at me. <---- sign of a good marriage! :rotfl2:

For all future sparkle shirt orders, I must to ship directly to my work to avoid this situation. :)

Love your sparkle skirt! I'm debating if I want to take that plunge but as I'm still at a losing weight stage, I don't really want to be spending $65 on something that may not fit well in a few months.

Too funny about your husband's response to that. My husband takes the same attitude when I have done my solo trips for special events and things.

That skirt looks so pretty! I need some warm weather running clothes now that the weather is changing but I'm not sure I'm ready for any "investment pieces" yet :)

I hear you- although I think I'm always in the 'losing weight' stage. Even when stuffing my face with Cadbury Eggs (which may or may not have happened yesterday). :rolleyes1

He is usually very good about my solo trips. He knows that even though we are both dual earners with equal long hours, I pick up the majority of the kid stuff due to his shift work.... and so he doesn't put up a fuss when I just need a break...... I was more worried about this trip because of some very high unexpected vet costs last week.... but I got a year, Christmas, birthday & bonus money in between there and now.......

Thanks- I can't wait to try it out!!! I'll let you know my thoughts. I am a 'capri' pants runner- so it will have to perform well to earn my top praises! :)

Thought of you...

:lmao: Yep, I need to make an iron-on shirt of this! :thumbsup2

Eventually he'll do what Rey did the other day...walked up, said "I bet I know how I can brighten YOUR DAY!" and handed me the box. I have him trained now! :rotfl2:

Pretty sparkle skirt! I definitely need one now. :rotfl2: Did I miss you saying what the costume was going to be? =D It makes me think of mary poppins, but then I realized she doesn't have a red skirt. The only others I can think of that wear red are Jasmine, Belle (winter dress), and Mulan.

When I told my husband I wanted to do PHM 2015, the only thing he asked was "Will it affect our budget for ToT 2015?" He wants his disney trip too! :rotfl:

I need to plan out a new costume too! I'm going to reuse Tiana for the 10k (assuming I can get into the GSC), and then something new for PHM. But what. Hmmmmm.

Subscribing - will catch up on these 9 pages as soon as I can. Jealous of your cruise. I'm dying to go on a boat! It's been 2 years!

I did 2 miles in it today. I will give my review shortly!

I didn't say what I was going to be. I'm holding this one in - just because out of the 4 costumes I need in the next 11 months- this one is going to be my favorite I think!!!! I will be discussing my other three outfits in nauseating detail though!!! :)

Your Tiana outfit was cute! So def. reuse. Wondering if you could do something along similar colors for 10K so you can reuse some of it too? Maybe like Mike from Monsters (not very Princessey).

Hi- Welcome!!! :welcome:

I can't wait to get on that boat after this winter!!! It's been 2 years since our last cruise too! :boat:

I can't remember where I posted about the grey stuff, but I saw it mentioned here, so i'm commenting here. ;) i'm glad to hear that it was so good! I've got some sort of plans for a couple movie nights before this trip and I really want to attempt to make it. did I read somewhere else that you all just ate it out of the big bowl? that's my kind of family! :thumbsup2

Ok- so I took a picture but didn't want to post it because of the unappetizing form we consumed it in...

Remember- the recipe calls for decorating tips & swirls. Which was way too much work when it was just going in my belly.............

So, I give you.. "The Grey Stuff". Nicole style.

It went fast in my house. 24 hours and it was gone! :) It would be really good between cake layers or as a frosting as well........

I have been stalking the DIS since last night...what's your idea of shortly woman?!?! :rolleyes1

:rotfl:

Hey I posted a picture of the Grey Stuff, what more do you want?!?! I was too busy diggin myself out of ANOTHER freakin' blizzard!

Ok, Ok- I'll do it- but I don't have pictures. And I just know SOMEONE will yell at me about that!. I guess I'll reuse my other picture. :)

Well, I'll give you a pass this time since you have a blizzard. I guess my complaining about 40 degrees after 80 and sunny yesterday sounds pretty bad if you have actual snow.

Can't you just put it back on and take a selfie?!?! I can't believe you didn't take a pic of you in it. Sheesh! It's not like I'm making you go out in the snow with it on. ;)

Particularly this one:

The Dress Me Up Red.

My very first Sparkle. I was a virgin. And now I'm not (oh shoot, can I say that on the DIS? Probably not. Oh well).

My preferred running attire has always been the Athleta Relay Capri.

I looked, of course, EXACTLY like that when I wear them. (you know, except a large belly hanging over the top)

(Karen, look TWO pictures!)

I had tried, in the past several types of other capri's & shorts . The shorts ALWAYS rode up on me and chafed.. leaving me to only use capri's. Which, can be very hot in certain months & for certain distances.

My test run was in a rather stuff gym, on a treadmill- distance- 2 miles.

Style: (out of four stars)
Capri's: Four
Sparkle: Three

This is subjective. And this rating could possible equal with a different style. My capri's are basic black. The sparkle skirt is fire engine run (bought for that color). First thing I did was remove the ribbon. While useful for when I wear this for races/costume, it felt out of place at a gym on a treadmill. The red also seemed out of place at the gym- but then again- it was bought specifically for something in mind. I THINK I would like a less flowey sparkle than this one as that's more my style. But again, I say this all subjectively because I bought this particular sparkle with a purpose in my mind.

Fit:
Capri's: Three
Sparkle: Four

The fit felt good when I put it on. Extremely comfortable. And I liked the fact that it was higher waisted. Allowing some compression on my gut. Anything that can hold that in & make it jiggle less gets good marks from me. These beat out my capri's in this regards. As the capri's are lower waisted making the jiggle wiggle come out more! These were slighly more comfortable than my capri's as well- they felt less restricted.

Wicking:
Capri's: Three
Sparkle: Four

I was also impressed with this skirt in regards to wicking. It breathed easy with my sweat. I definetly feel 'more gross' in my capri's vs. the sparkle. I was especially happy about this in the (TMI?) crotch area. Plus, because it was a skirt, no sweat behind the knees. Sparkle pretty much felt as good taking off as putting on & can't say that about the capri's. Which are heavier and hold more 'sweat in'. Now that you all have that lovey mental picture.

Accessories:
Capri's: Four
Sparkle: Four

For this I give them equal. The large pockets are very nice on the sparkle but I didn't have anything to put in them at the gym. So I can't tell you if the stuff pops out of them. I would have maybe liked to see zippers on them. But perhaps it's not an issue- I won't know until I have a test run with stuff in them. The one zippered pocket it does have is on the front. This was, pehraps, my ONLY regret on this skirt. I have a pouchy stomach. I don't want more... and if I put stuff in that zippered pouch- in the front- I'll have more. My capri's have the zippered pocket in the back & that is my preferred place. Also the capri's have reflective striping on them which helps for night runs. Therefore, when I compare, I put these about equal in the 'accessories' category.

Apples to Oranges

There are some items I can't fairly compare. For example, the riding up. Capri's won't do that. So can't compare. The Sparkles did EXACTLY what they claim- with NO riding. Also, the skirt didn't push between my legs (I had this problem with tutu's I've made in the past for races where I feel like I'm runinng with something between my legs). Sparkle didn't do that. So I was happy (very) with that!

Overall

I liked the Sparkle. Really, my biggest complaint was the front zipper (vs back). This is an excellent alternative for my summer runs and for ToT when it's expected to be hot. I think that I will perhaps invest in a basic black one that has a straighter skirt design. Although I have plans for the red- even outside the costume.....

I will continue to run in my capri's as well. Probably fall/spring runs & cooler races (if I do any).

So now, my friends, what basic, black or grey sparkle is good? :)

Wow.....someONE demanded a review and they have yet to comment....hmmmm.

I'm here for you, Nicole. I think Sparkle wins out, of course I don't really know what I'm talking about!! ;)

Grey sparkle color is my vote!!
