We’ll have 450 points available to use in early-mid October 26 (banking and borrowing). This isn’t quite enough to do us a 2 bed for 10 nights at boardwalk unless we get lucky with a resort view room.

How likely at other resorts would it be to get 10 nights at this time? From points charts it looks like AK resort views, OKW and SSR would be other options our points would cover.

We could look at getting some points transferred/rented to cover the shortfall of 24 points but that’s extra effort I’d ideally like to avoid.

In the old days you could always count on OKW at 7 months especially for a 2 bedroom. Not so sure anymore. DVC Field Guide has an availability chart that is pretty accurate and should offer some guidance. Good Luck

if you only need 24 points you could buy them as OTUP?
Forgot that was an option! Annoyingly does mean having to wait til 7 months to buy and use them at our home resort so still a risk the room isn’t available then, right? We’d be able to get 9 nights at 11 months and then have to wait to get the 10th at 7.

It would be such a downgrade from a location perspective to have to bus from AK, OKW, and SSR vs being steps to the Intl Gateway at EPCOT and a nice boat ride to Hollywood Studios.

I’d try to find a way to secure the needed points.

Yeah we bought BWV for a reason. The other option is going for two studios which isn’t quite so ideal as we’re taking my SIL, BIL and 2 teenage kids so the 2 bed lock off would be better logistically.

Perhaps just going with booking the 9 nights and hoping for the extra night at 7 months with OTUP is best. We’ll be flying from the UK so don’t want to leave booking flights too late.

You could also rent one night and then ask the renter to link that reservation to your reservation to stay in the same room the whole time.

October is a high demand DVC month. The Thursday before Columbus Day to the weekend after Columbus Day (Oct 8 to 17 in 2026) is even higher demand than other times in Oct. BWV resort view and boardwalk view studios and 2BRs (which, since all are lock-offs, can disappear due to studio reservations) tend to fill for any given arrival date in Oct within nanoseconds after 8 a.m. eastern at 11-months out -- many lose that reservation battle. Thus, the issue you face is that the only reservation you may be able to get at BWV for Oct time if booking 11-months out is for pool/garden view 2BR. Moreover, if you can only get nine nights, you should make that reservation at 11-months out because even pool/garden view will likely be gone well before 7-months out, and finding some other resort at 7-months out for 10-nights, may not succeed.

With 450 points and seeking a 2BR in Oct for 10 nights, your only options other than BWV resort view, without getting more points, are OKW, SSR standard, and AKV resort view and value 2BRs. Of those, AKV value 2BRs have no chance at all for 10-nights at 7-months out. AKV resort view is likely going to be missing at least some of the nights needed for a 10-night stay, particularly if any of those nights are during that higher Oct demand time. SSR standard and OKW offer the best chance, but even those have some risk, if seeking 10 nights, of missing some nights at 7-months out, particularly during that higher demand time.

The 2BRs, at 7-months out, for the rest of the WDW DVC Resorts would require acquiring more points. Moreover, finding any for 10-nights in a row at 7-months out will be difficult, particularly if any of the desired nights are in that higher demand time of the month.

We have paid DVC price for the extra days. Check if DVC has the days open and can offer their price one way to guarantee. Are going on the waiting list and there’s no guarantee.

This is super helpful thank you! We’re not averse to split staying and this is seeming increasingly likely for when we’re considering this trip.

Other options were looking at are arriving between Christmas and new year (I know, crazy on points) or possibly accepting 2026 isn’t the best option and looking at summer 2027 instead.

Perhaps just doing two studios is easier than trying to get the 2bed lock offs too.

You can buy the 24 points before you need them, just call and say you want to book xx resort for yy date which is 24 points. Then afterwards you cancel the reservation and then when the 7 month window comes around you book the dates and use the 24 points.

Ooh clever! So I’d buy them for some time within 7 months, book that and then cancel the res to refund the OTUP which would then appear in my account to be used later?

Just thinking would this work if we’re an Oct UY and trying to travel in October? Sorry new to DVC and OTUP so not sure if they’re tied to your UY.

which dates are you looking to travel?

With an Oct UY you need to make the dummy reservation in the UY which to tend to use them.

Ie. If you wish to travel Oct 10-20 2026, then you can make the dummy reservation when the 7 month window opens for Oct 1st 2026, which is March 1st 2026. Then after you have cancelled the dummy reservation you are ready for when the 7 months window opens for the Oct 10-20.

If purchased for any reservation in your Oct 2025 use year, and then you cancel that reservation, they cannot be banked and must be used for a trip in that Oct 2025 use year, which ends Sep 30, 2026.

I tried to put myself in your shoes and if I really wanted to stay at BWV I'd book my first night with cash at another on property resort just in case so I could take advantage of luggage transfer, then the other 9 nights at BWV. I'd rather do one move early on then settle in. Then hopefully with use of OTUP, snag that first night at your 7 month window. Fingers crossed for you that they offer the Buy 1 get 1 Free deal next year with MMB, that would be a great way to save some money.

Right, this makes sense thanks. So it’s not massively advantageous for October travel but it could be very useful if we went later in the year to acquire the OTUP in advance.

The only time when it’s actually won’t work and that’s for any UY, is for the first night when any UY starts. That’s 2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 6/1, 8/1, 9/1, 10/1, 12/1
