If you buy them online from Disney you don't have to exchange them at the ticket booth. Just enter through the normal entry lines. They'll take the e-ticket and exchange it for a normal tyvek ticket (normal ticket stock), right there on the spot. Takes no longer than any other park entry.

One thing that you need to watch out for is a bar code. If you don't have one, I believe that you'll have to go through a ticket booth to validate your tickets. In July, most of our tickets had bar codes (Military Salute), but the 7th ticket had to be bought separately. We learned about the difficulty when we tried to use the Grand Californian entrance to DCA!

With our tickets, we actually contemplated doing this on the afternoon that we arrived. We had walked through Downtown Disney, and headed to the parks. But then we saw the lines for security, and we decided just to wait until the next morning. We ended up regretting that decision. Our military tickets were no problem, but my Dad's ticket caused a delay.
