If DCL cancels....

@FigmentSpark

I still haven't heard back from anyone, but I did find a mention where it was on ABCnews (which Disney owns). I see where they mention the cruise statement.

I see where ABCnews tweeted it 5 hours ago.

Ok, I found where it's posted at DisneyParkNews on twitter. But, that was just posted an hour ago.

Is that twitter feed official? Why put it on one social media but not any others and why not a quick update on their website... all cancelled, details to follow?

My contact said the decision was made around 8:30/9pm tonight. I agree that it should be plastered everywhere, especially since they were able to get it on the news.

I would contact Costco first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully, by then they will have received the needed info.

I will tell you that when I was on the Magic cancellation which was done approximately the same time frame as you are experiencing, I saw the news here first, then called Costco and they had to call Disney because Disney had not contacted them.

I trust my contacts and now several other threads on here are confirming it, so your plan now is to salvage your vacation as best you can. This is an such an unusual situation and I'm sure they are working as best they can. I do think it could have been handled better.

Thanks for your help. I am just worried about my sister. He flight leaves at 9:45 EST tomorrow morning. If there's no cruise, I don't want her on it. We are driving and can just turn around, but she'll be stuck in an airport until she could get a flight out.

I wish I had better news for you and I'm just so, so sorry you are having to deal with this. You are in the worst situation possible.

Costco doesn't open until 8am. They have a number, 866-317-4711, that you can call while traveling and maybe you will get faster service than calling the reservation line.

Good luck.

Thanks. Actually, the DCL website is now updated, so at least people know not to get on a flight tomorrow.

We're 5 hours from Orlando with a hotel booked for PC tomorrow. We might just go anyway. Not sure. DH is asleep.

I talked to Costco tonight. THe cancellation is not in their system for the March 14th date. He tried to contact Disney but they were closed. He said to call back tomorrow. This is being handled terribly. I don't know why they couldn't at least post an update on their website.

For those who needs it:

Disney Cruise Line Coronavirus (COVID-19) Travel Alert
March 13, 2020 – 12:00 AM

In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of our guests and employees, Disney Cruise Line has decided to suspend all new departures beginning Saturday, March 14, 2020, through the end of the month. This precautionary measure applies to all four of Disney’s cruise ships.

While we know this decision may be disappointing, the health and wellbeing of our guests is of the greatest importance. We are equally committed to the wellbeing of our incredible crew members who live and work aboard our ships and on Castaway Cay. During the suspended operations, Disney Cruise Line will continue to compensate our Crew Members and shoreside Cast Members.

The Disney Dream will depart on a three-night cruise from Port Canaveral as scheduled on Friday, March 13, and will return to Port Canaveral on Monday, March 16. The Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic will return to port on Saturday, March 14. The Disney Wonder, which is currently in the midst of a westbound Panama Canal cruise, will continue on its scheduled itinerary, with guests disembarking in San Diego on Friday, March 20.

Disney Cruise Line will offer guests affected by this decision a future cruise credit or a full refund, the details of which will be provided directly to them. Given the higher than normal call volume at our Call Center, we ask that affected guests or their travel agent wait to contact us until after they receive an email from us.

Below is a list of impacted sailings:

March 19-23

March 23-28

March 28-April 2

Disney Wonder

Delta airlines has also issued a similar statement, they ask passengers only to call when their flight is within 72 hours to spread the call volume.

Since dcl canceled cruises, you shouldn’t have to contact them, the refund should be automatically processed. We were canceled a couple of years ago because of a hurricane. We got an email and dcl refunded our payment back to the same form paid. Mine to my cc and my daughter to her many gift cards. We never had to call, though my TA did call later as we had some gift cards missing, but we got it sorted. The refund for the cc took at least a week to show up.

the refund should be automatically processed.
I don't think they will process it automatically because it sounds like they are offering a choice. This is from the notice online:

For anyone who isn't currently enroute or already started your vacation, I'd suggest waiting to receive the email as it instructs.

yes, I did see they were given a choice, not sure why. It did say they would get an email with more info.

I wonder if people who are on any of the mentioned above cruises in March who had contacted DCL when they were just offering the credit and taken the credit could now take the full refund that is being offered?

My guess is that the choice is either a refund OR a rebooking with a % discount or OBC. That would explain why they are not automatically refunding people, and why they are keeping the details on the down low (because they probably would rather people with april cruises rebook now with no discount than hold out for a sweeter deal if Disney has to extend the suspension into April).

very good. Thinking the same. Of course I have an April 18th Cruise and hoping for a refund and not a credit. I have several future cruises booked and no place to put a new cruise within the timeframe. With a discount, I could cancel my January 2021 if the price was better.......
