Nicole was their mother, she made the choice to let them go. I don't feel sorry or sad for her at all.

I am a mother and no way in heck I would. I think she was able to be a part of their lives until they turned 18 and they shunned her.

I realize there is alot more to it @Mizzoufan, doesn't change the way I feel about mother's who abandon their children. This isn't a case of adoption where the child is better off with another parent, in fact leaving them in that world is probably much worse.
We can praise her acting skills, but I'm certainly not going to praise her as a mother.

I'm going to guess Suri isn't biologically his. I think she was already pregnant when they got together.

They are Scientologists...... so to them she is a "suppressive person" and they are not allowed to have any contact with her according to the church rules.

Really sad situation for her.

When Nicole divorced Tom Cruise, she had also made it clear that she never had been a Scientologist or supported the cult religion err, organization. It was then that she was labeled a "Suppressive Person," an "SP." Scientologists are not supposed to have ANY dealings with an SP for the reasons that they think an SP will suppress them. They are also not supposed to have any interactions or RELATIONSHIP with even family members who are not Scientologists. Scientology is their family, not those other people.

Since Nicole met those two criteria, Scientology & Cruise cut her off from them. THEY raised those two kids as Scientologists, indoctrinating them at a young age that she is an SP and is bad for them.

Thus, as a PP pointed out, why Katie Holmes left the way she did and made sure SHE got custody & control of Suri and allegedly, in her divorce settlement, that Tom cannot raise Suri as a Scientologist.

This is what Bella had to say (edited for language):

According to Leah Remini, for Scientology, bad/negative publicity is some of the worst things they can get. It is even above associating with SPs as members must protect Scientology's reputation at all costs. They are mandated to squash getting negative publicity which affects the reputation of Scientology. So of course, Bella is going to "talk" to Nicole every once in a blue moon to put to rest those rumors. It's not that they can't talk to other people. They do move around in public and interact with the general population. But, it is doubtful that she has any REAL, deep relationship with Nicole, after being indoctrinated as she has been for the past several years.

Likewise, since Suri is not a Scientologist, and may be a SP, (she fits their two criteria, ) Tom Cruise may not have very many dealings with her. Probably just a few well publicized visits so he gets positive publicity of the two of them. After all, "he is her parent," as Bella said about Nicole, like that one word should explain it all to non-Scientologists.

So do you have any suggestions about what she should have done instead? Stay in the marriage to remain close to them? Apparently not an option as he divorced her; rather suddenly too as the story goes. Fight for custody? Apparently she did but full physical custody was awarded to the father. Force whatever visitation order she had to be carried out? We have no way to know she didn't but given that kids themselves DID NOT WANT to see or talk to her, it would have been pretty futile.

At their ages, they pretty much control the level of meaningful interaction. Heck, my own DS went through a surly stage as a teen where he barely communicated with us and that was in an intact, relatively normal and happy home. I'm sure you think your love for your kids would simply eliminate or overcome any obstacle but again, you've never been in a situation like hers, have you.

I was listening to her speech. She talked very clearly about her two kids and husband who are at home with her. How her being off on location, doing a TV show affects them on a daily basis by her not being with them and spending time with them. THAT is why she thanked them. They gave her their support to film that show. As an "exchange" for that, she joked the Emmy will be in the girls' room, so they can say they got something in return for her being away from them all that time.

Connor & Bella are adults and do not live with her. Nor do they interact with her on a daily basis. They weren't getting the award in their room. So they weren't mentioned in terms of her daily home life situation.

Nicole has mentioned Connor & Bella in other acceptance speeches. I'm pretty sure one was when she won her Oscar.

IMO Nicole is a better actress than she is mother. She doesn't deserve to be winning any awards for the latter. YMMV.

My mother abandoned myself and my sister when we were little more than babies. I have no patience for women who do not fight for their kids. I'm extremely passionate about it. But. Most women don't have to go up against Tom Cruise, the Church of Scientology and the high powered attorneys that go with them. Add to that spending your married life as a virtual prisoner and the mental abuse that went along with that. If I recall right Tom divorced her, totally blindsided her. It was all over and done before she even knew what was happening. The Church of Scientology is known for threatening and menacing people the rest of their lives. It's all well and good to think you know what you'd do in a situation like that but you really have no clue. Maybe the choice for her was to let her children have peace rather than trying to battle the brainwashing they were born into and the madness that is their father.

If ou listened to her speech, she thanked her younger ones because this project took her away from them so much. She wanted them to know there was a reason for it, as they're obviously too young to watch this piece of work. The award is tangible.

She thanked the people in her household and it was specific about her time away from home and their support in that.

As for her older kids, while they are her children, as adults and still Scientologists, I don't imagine they're close to her. Even if what Isabella said is true and they do talk, my guess is they're essentially strangers to each other.

Yes, allegedly, he took the kids and ran from Nicole, the same way Katie did to him. That's probably where Katie & her father got the idea. Conner & Bella didn't just have Cruise talking to them labeling Nicole an SP, they had many people talking to them on a daily basis, telling them their mother was a suppressive person. That can be considered mind control, when day in and day out, they are told what's wrong with their mother. They didn't interact with normal people. Their environment was carefully controlled. So all they had contact with was other Scientologists, all having the same beliefs. That became their reality.

We used to have a Katie & Suri Cruise thread on the DIS from about a decade ago. Many of us were a part of it and researched what Scientology is about. So it's not just Leah Remini telling stuff. She just reinforces & affirms what many of us have already heard. I have not heard any info from Leah that disputes what I already know about them. She actually goes much more in depth.

A couple nights ago on our local news, they even went into the types of behaviors that cults do, without naming any particular organization. They were warning about the many telltale signs, so people could be alerted to them.
