1) are you holding the camera that way for extra stabilizing against your face?
2) is the D700 able to auto focus in that low of a light? (I'm assuming that it's autofocusing because of the way you're holding the camera)
3) did you apply any noise filtering (or other post processing) for this shot at ISO 8000, or is it straight out of the camera?

I'm always studying your low light pictures.

Thanks Todd-

1- I guess that is how I always hold the camera unless I have the battery grip attached. (I just noticed you can see I shot it portrait and cropped to horizontal.)
2- It does pretty good with a fast lens. I still can't seem to get a picture of the Haunted Mansion Caretaker though.
3- I don't think I used Noise Ninja on it but I may have- I processed about 50 mostly low light shots yesterday and maybe 1/4 of them needed noise reduction. Many (like this one) were overexposed and after pulling the exposure back to where it belonged the images were very clean.
