My daughter - a sophmore in high school - is in her school play this weekend. She and her friends - all in the play - are planning a slumber party at another girl's house after the show/cast dinner. DD15 was tearing the video cabinet apart looking for a movie before she left - Hercules. She called me from school and said she was going onstage soon but it would be really great if I could possibly find Hercules and maybe bring it to her.

I looked halfheartedly but I was not in the mood to really search, plus I really think my older daughter took it back to school with her (we are a Hercules-loving family!!) so I got in the car, drove to Target, spent thirteen bucks on a new copy, then drove out to school and put it in her bag backstage.

Yep, I'm winning Mother of the Year!!

Frankly, I was so glad they wanted to watch a Disney movie instead of soft core porn or one of the Saw movies!!

Also, there was an intense situation with another student this week and the student body has been deeply affected - some girlfriend spend the night/Disney movie marathon is exactly what the doctor ordered...

She just called between scenes to tell me another place to look - boy, they must really want to watch Hercules tonight!!

I said, "Look in your bag."

She did and said, "OMG, MOM!!!!! Did you bring it to me? OMG, MOM!!! Did you go buy a new one? I can't believe you did that!!!"

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Needless to say, she LOVES me and I am the BEST MOM EVER!!!

Haha - until tomorrow, when the play is over and I make her clean her room...

Nice work Mom!

My DS is also on stage tonight. I hate not being there. I saw it last night but due to content DD 9 cannot go so DH and I are trading off.

What show are they doing?

:thumbsup2That was very thoughtful of you. For a little over the price of admission for 1 to go to the theatre, you brought long-term enjoyment instead.

You are awesome!!

To the PP that asked, when I was in school play .. it was several nights in a row and my parents only attended opening night . No need to be there every night .

Judge much? Sheesh. :sad2:[

It's a question.
My son is in school plays and I attend performances, maybe he is to young for parties but you don't need to be rude.
Nothing to do with parenting skills, just a question.
Holy Crap, maybe no one should comment

How is that judging ?
It is a question.

I didn't think it was judging, I was wondering the same thing.

I think its great that you got her the movie, OP. Sounds like whatever is going on at school warrants some innocent Disney movie watching and good girlfriend bonding.

You did a very nice thing. :thumbsup2

I was also in plays in high school, and my parents would only attend ONE performance (usually opening night). I would never expect them to come to all performances. :confused3 They did miss ONE of my shows...but that was because they were in a serious car accident on the way to see me. Thank God they were eventually okay, but it was a very difficult night for me at the time.

lol - I knew that would come up!!

I went opening night and I'm going tomorrow to the clsoing matinee. I bought tickets for last night and tonight but I didn't want to see it four days in a row. Sue me.;)

Last year the play was Les Miz and it was fabulous - I could have watched it every night for months. This year the show is Thoroughly Modern Millie and although I love watching the talent of the kids, it's not my favorite show. That white slavery theme just doesn't resonate in modern times, kwim??:rotfl:

DD has a smallish to medium size part - I thought she was adorable and she didn't blow any lines, so we are all happy campers.:lovestruc

Isn't it nice to "sometimes" be the BEST EVER mom? :rotfl2:
Gotta LOVE those times~ ;)

I was in drama in High School and some parents would go to every performance (we usually did a Thursday and Friday night and then a Saturday matinee and Saturday night) and some would only go to one. My mom only came to one each show. I don't feel angry at her for that.

Yikes, even if my daughters were in the lead roles for a high school play, I don't think I could sit through it more than once, twice at the most! High school plays just make me cringe and get twitchy, as there seems to either never be enough talent to cover the entire play, or they let everyone who wants to be in it (that would be me, as I have no talent, but they'd find something for me to do, usually as a villager or nun, or other quiet person, LOL!)

With girls especially, (as we tend to get attitude and conflict and competition in the teen years) it's such a wonderful feeling when we moms get to be heroes!

I'm in the middle of spoiling DD18 rotten - I bribed her to come home last night from college by taking her to Sonic and doing all 5 loads of her laundry - on the way back to campus, we'll stop and I'll buy her some groceries, then give her some $$$ to last between now and Thanksgiving!

That's great for DD! My DD loves Hercules here too. :thumbsup2

I can see why you aren't at every performance at HS level. If my DD gets a part this year in the musical, it's Sweeney Todd. They usually do 3 or 4 performances. I think 1 will be even be too much for me but I'll suffer through 1 to see her. I'm not going to see it 3 - 4 times! :lmao:

Ours usually sell out & quickly too, so I can let others have a chance to see it.

when i was in high school my mom would only come to one night of the play unless it was a competition play then she would come to the opening night and then to the competition! i never expected more than that!!

i love hercules also, it is one of my favs., especially now that i have a little boy and it is a movie that he can enjoy!

Way to go Mom! That was so great of you to that! I think DD was alot happier to get the DVD then have you in the audience! I have a son that has been in theater scince 4th grade. He had his first University orchestra concert last night and I could not be there due to having the H1N1 virus. I called him after his concert and I said what are you doing? And he said I am at my friends watching Beauty and the Beast. Ya gotta love it.
