I've only made it to page 21 of this thread, so forgive me if I am repeating anyone....
Just wanted to comment on the Christian belief that what gets you to heaven is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior...
1) It seems like a lot of Christians say that, then try to pinpoint behaviors that will keep them out.
The bible says we need to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Period. It also says we ALL sin. Telling someone else thier "sin" is worse is nothing but hypocrisy.
2) A lot of non-Christians try to discredit Christianity by saying that what would make us "behave" if all we had to do is accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. All I can say is you are missing the point. The point being that there is no one on Earth that is perfect, whether or not you believe. We all do "bad" things, every single one of us. Recognizing and accepting that no one can be God is the point. (And actually, now that I am writing this, I think there are some that need to develop the "discernment" to realize this teaching.
) If you DON'T believe in God, what makes you "behave?" Why do you think it is a different thing for people who do believe?
3) I think it is really sad that there are so many people on this board, on both sides of the issue, that strongly dislike, or even hate people who have different beliefs than them. That is not a bragging right for anyone, it just shows your closed-mindedness, no matter how open minded you claim to be. I have to laugh every time I see certain posters write things that basically write off a whole section of society based on some label in their next post try to claim how friendly and accepting and morally superior they are.
And finally, it is everyone's OWN lives they should be concerned with. No one is so perfect or so all-knowing as to tell anyone else how they should live. Even if you believe in God, you should realize that it is God's place to judge others, our job is just to LOVE others.
