I Saw A Snake!

We saw snake at the BCV. First on the walkway around the BC cutting over from the BCV, near the gate. Then we saw it another day after we walked out of that gate and headed towards EpCot

Yikes,

I always want a upper floor room n Fl. My Dd lives in Pensacola near a wooded area. Glad she's on the 3rd floor.

herc.

I didn't think those black snakes were harmful. We saw a few in POR last trip...they just slithered away.

Are they harmful?

Oh man Oh man....I like the other poster who HATES snakes, am just like her...I ABSOLUTELY HATE THEM. :scared1:

I know some protect the environment, eat other bad critters, and etc etc...but they are still SLITHERY, HISSY, CRAWLY, SNAKEY, COILY, SNEAKY, SLIMEY, and UGLY critters WHO I ABSOLUTELY AM SCARED TO DEATH OF, Venomous or Not!!!

If I ever saw one, anyone else who was in 500 ft of me would hear the WORST god-awful high pitched scream they ever heard!!!!!!!:scared1: And a blonde gal RUNNING like WILDFIRE to get the HECK out of there!

Ooohh...now I got goose bumps just thinking about it. ugh.

It's just a snake. It's more afraid of you than you are of him. Just ignore them and give them a wide bearth and you'll be fine.

My family lives up in the panhandle of Florida and I've seen snakes/gators around their place many times. The only snake I've ever had a problem with is the Pygmy Rattlesnake. These buggers are just plain mean! They're small and you can come up on them unaware and they are quick to strike. Plus, since they are small, their rattle isn't very loud. They are quite common in Florida and I do not advise anyone to reach into/under a bush with checking first.

Every time I hear about the snakes and alligators it makes me scared to ride in the watermice. I can just imagine a snake slithering onto me and freaking out and tipping my boat over, then getting eaten by an alligator.

Hi: We did have a snake in our room. But it was our own fault and it was a tiny one as thin as a pencil and about l0 inches long.

I had left the sliding door open about one inch at the poly resort. Then left for another 8 hours in the parks. Nothing was stolen thank god. We came home around 9 p.m. my 12 year old son ran into the washroom and it was slithering around on the floor. He has always been and to this day (25 now) is afraid of snakes.

We called maintenance, while waiting my husband gently cornered it and escorted it in a cracker box and promptly put it outside. It was doing the sitting up thingy, it was black but we did not know what type it was. It was in the 90's outside and much cooler inside our room.

Finally maintenance came to the door about 10 min later with three foot long tongs to pick up the snake (wonder how big they usually are?) They checked all over our room (as kids and I were on bed with our feet up) behind curtains closet etc.
They advised my husband that they would have liked to have seen it to decide what type it was and what to do with it. Hubby put it outside in some bushes.

We were offered another room but declined as we liked our location and patio. We went to bed around l0:00 as we were going into the parks early the next day and there was a knock at our door. A man was there with two huge platters of cheeses and different fruits and crackers with a nice linen for our round table for us. I looked at the room service menu and it came to about $75 for the food he brought us. He was shocked we had gone to bed so early, lol.

Management called us twice to make sure everything was okay. I thought they treated us pretty fair considering it was MY FAULT leaving the sliding door open a little.

Have never seen another snake even while walking around the different resorts.

Bye.

Deb.

Are you describing ME?!?!?!? I completely understand your fear! I can't even watch them on television because it makes me so nauseous.

My husband is pretty sure you're my twin seperated at birth. I hate, snakes, bugs, creepy crawlys of any kind.

He finds it quite odd that, on the other hand, I have no problem with holding a rat or mouse or ferret. As long as it has fur..:confused3

I cant watch the Croc Hunter (RIP) when he does his show, I absolutley dont watch the "educational shows" about the slithering beasts....

And you know that movie SNAKES ON A PLANE? uh....NO THANK YOU! I cant even watch the TV commercials. :scared: hubby wants to rent it, so I politely told him I would let him have the livingroom DVD/Surround sound so he could watch it, and I would go put in a Disney Movie in our bedroom with the door SHUT, LOCKED, LATCHED AND A TOWEL TO COVER THE HOLE AT THE BOTTOM TO KEEP THE SNAKES OUT.

Its just a snake? NAW. ITS A SNAKE. PERIOD. :snooty:

I live in central florida. I've seen several snakes at Disney. I saw 2 snakes at BB, 1 at TL. The 2 I saw at BB were when I was on the lazy river. They were on the bank. The one I saw at TL was very close to someone's bag. From that day on, I've only taken bags that can zipper to the water parks. I saw 1 snake at MK in the water near Tom Sawyer Island. I saw 5 snakes the day I went to Cypress Gardens. I have seen 3 snakes in 7 years in my front yard. Once we had a cotton mouth in our pool. Had to call someone to get it. I do not like snakes!

As for alligators, I see them all the time in retention ponds and lakes. Our subdivision has told us that they can't do anything about gators that are under 4 feet long. I have never seen a gator at a resort, but i have seen them in the retention ponds and banks near I-4.

the one thing I have learned about reading this thread, request a top floor room!!! Thanks!!!!!

It was most likely a black racer. They are very abundant in this area. I have one who lives by my front porch. They are not poisonous, but can be agressive. They will raise up if confronted. Just walk away and you will be fine.

I rolled over a black snake with with my DD's stroller while I was holding her and then stepped on it! We were on the promenade going to the food court at Old Port Royle to see a Calypso band playing on the patio, but we never made it! I thought it was a crack in the cement when I rolled over it. There was The snake swung around and hit its head on the back of my calf - I may have peed a little! I made a small "scene" and my wife made fun of me the rest of that trip. Got a little sick of being called Crocodile Mardee Stayed at the Poly from that point on... although not because of the snake.

I probably shouldn't post a pick of the 6 foot Boa constrictor my roomate used to have huh? He was a freidnly guy.

Okay, I appreciate the place snakes hold in the grand scheme of things. They are fine and necessary animals. That said, I don't want to see them.

The only snake I ever saw near WDW was in the parking lot of the Wyndham Palace, fairly late in the evening (10pm or so). My dh saw one at OKW one time, as he was bringing the luggage up to our room. It was by the stairs. I made him show me where he saw it and I walked through there with my eyes wide open on the lookout for it. Mainly because I didn't want to be taken by surprise or I'd likely scream and run (its my instinctive reaction and I've done it more than once when encountering a snake unexpectedly. I've left others behind going "what was that about?" when the snake slithered off.).

Snakes on a Plane, yeah, no thanks. I can walk through the reptile house at the zoo though.

Now I had to read this thread 10 days before arriving at OKW again....LOL. Darn, I didn't request an upper floor.

yes, because Steve Irwin said they do this all the time.

We saw several small snakes and dozens of lizards around the resort grounds at the Polynesian. We're all animal and reptile lovers, and as a young girl I've owned both snakes and lizards, so for us it was a treat. :)
