I love credit cards so much!

It doesn't look like it's going away. I see "Stay for 5, pay for 4. " still listed on the redeem points page for the changes coming in August.
And yes, no word on how the Swan/Dolphin will change yet. If you've got the points you can hedge and book it now, then try to rebook if it turns out better with the new rewards chart. (and personally I hope they keep the Marriott way where you can book on points before you have all the points available. but i'm not hopeful)

I recall reading that they are extending the Marriott booking system to SPG hotels too once the merger is finalized so that you can book even when you don't have all of the points available. Not sure I remember where I read that though.

OMG that is so funny! We have never flown first class. It sounds awesome, but I bet we will just stick with economy to Japan lol.

So I have to pay the AF again and then call to change it?

No, you don’t need to pay it a second time. Just let it hit and call to downgrade or cancel the card. The AF will be refunded as long as you do it within 30 days.

So much to read here but work is totally swamping me right now. Quick update on my attempt to purchase WDW tickets with URs- I'm throwing in the towel. I was going to wait until Fri but I just can't anymore. It's been 2 weeks, the other person here who ordered at the same time got their tickets Tues (their trip is next month, mine is Nov) and mine have yet to be processed. The vendor's T&C's say they can wait until 60 days before your trip to process your tickets. My Chase TA said dates don't matter they'll process in a week or so. Obviously dates do matter. I've sent my Chase TA an email thanking her for trying, said I understand this must be just as frustrating for her but that I will be requesting a refund if we can't get a Disney confirmation number from Funjet in the next couple days. My expectation is that she'll be so sick of this she'll issue the refund today or she'll try to level-up with a Funjet manager to push my tickets through faster. I really hope she does the later but I expect the former. If I get a refund I'll try again with a new agent and see if I can get direct with Disney but if I have to do Funjet again I'll make sure to tell them my trip is in 2 weeks to hasten this ridiculousness along.

Hi all!!! Newly single mom who could use your advice!! (Thanks @Jen and Ashwin for the recommendation!)

I am trying to take stock of my current CC's and figure out what my plan is moving forward after the divorce. After spending hours on The Points Guy website, I feel like what I ultimately want is to get the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and use it in combo with the Chase Freedom card to maximize UR points. I am aware of the 5/24 rule, and after checking, unfortunately I opened 4 cards in the past 24 months. So it looks like at the most I could get 1 new card now, and then a second after Jan 1 2019.

A little about my traveling style: The Disney trip I am currently planning for next Feb 2019 involves renting DVC points, buying tickets from Undercover Tourist and flying Southwest. Planning to get the Dining Plan this year because even though I know it might cost me more, I do NOT trust myself to not overspend while there and want to have as much paid off in advance of the trip as possible.

Besides a yearly trip to Disney, I have a few European trips planned in the next few years so I plan to utilize these cards for the long term, not just for churning.

Which card would you advise me to go with first until I can get approved for a second next year? I know that the 5x categories rotate and that right now Paypal (meaning DVC rental) is included, but unfortunately its probably going to be a month or so before I could apply. My credit is exceptional, but I need to refinance my mortgage first and don't want anything to mess with that. Not sure when this quarter ends.

I would appreciate any and all advice!

Thanks for heading over here!

I want to make sure that the 4 cards that you opened were under your name. Are any of these cards that your ex opened and added you as an authorized user on the card? If so, you can have yourself removed as an AU on those cards and then ask that they be removed from your credit report as well.

ETA: This quarter ends June 30.

Welcome! The people here are pretty awesome (and I'm not talking about myself :))

If I was in your spot and wanted the Reserve (CSR) and Freedom, I would try a double dip - applying for both the same day. If you're comfortable with the $4k spend for the CSR, and are okay adding the $500(?) spend for the Freedom bonus, that's what I would do. Check in here before you apply for anything and everyone here can walk you through it for your best chance of getting both approved. The process does take into account going for the card you want the most first, in case it doesn't work.

ETA: If you list out your cards and the month/year opened, people here can help give you the very best advice!

Hilton Honors American Express Business Card 125,000 Point Offer - via DoC.

This is a solid offer on an Amex business card that won't report to your personal credit reports and won't count against 5/24 with Chase. The previous offer was up to 100,000 HH points for $4k in tiered MSR.

@mefordis, if you're looking for another credit card to put $5k of spend on, the Amex Hilton Biz could be a good fit. (Make sure your vet accepts Amex.) It's got an exactly $5k MSR in 3 months for 125,000 HH points, good earning rate at Hilton hotels, and comes with complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status and 10 free Priority Pass Lounge passes (when your CSR's Priority Pass doesn't cover everybody).
That stinks!!! I just was approved for this card Tuesday for 100k and 4K spend. Any chance of Amex matching the offer? FWIW no hard pull.

If any of you had the visa offer on your Hyatt card for $10 on $50 at Lowe's don't forget to use it, it expires tomorrow. Just got my Disney gc and had an email before I left the store.

This is great! Can I get a referral link to this or is it too new? Would like to gain some points for my fellow dischurners!
I couldn’t find a referral link for this card when I applied on Tuesday. So I’m not sure there is one yet.

"I need to refinance my mortgage first and don't want anything to mess with that." TRUTH. This can wait until you wrap that up, but by planning this early you can have a solid plan when you're out of those mortgage woods!

Since you're 4/24 I would consider hitting the Chase Ink Preferred (CIP) first. This will leave you at 4/24 because Chase business cards don't count towards 5/24 (but you must be under 5/24 to qualify for a Chase biz card). You can then get the CSR after a few months. Depending on how everything lays out in your plans and x/24 status you could consider "The Double Dip". This is where by following some strict guidelines the churning community has figured out you can try to get yourself approved for the CSR and CSP in the same day. But, you need to have the self discipline to meet both spends in 3 months without purchasing items you would not otherwise purchase.

CIP is a business card. Don't have a business? Yes, yes you do :) I sell stuff on ebay, others sell on craigslist, some tutor, some sell cookies, some consult, does someone here braid horse hair for horse shows? I feel like someone I've encountered on the DIS does/did... Basically, we all have a business if we really think through stuff. You don't need an EIN, you don't need to have a business registered anywhere, you just apply using your name as the business name and your SSN as the tax id. If you want more info on this one just ask! As I said many here have CIPs for their "biz". The current CIP offer is 80k URs for $5k spend in 3 months plus af of $95 that is not waived. There is a 100k UR offer but you have to track down a specific banker at your local Chase and sit down and discuss your business so many opt for the 80k offer, we can also provide more info on the 100k route if you're interested. And- you can transfer the points to your CSR when you open that for the better redemption rate.

Amex doesn’t “match” offers.

Call Amex to complain and express how upset and frustrated you are that a card you don’t even have in hand yet or just go a few days ago, has been replaced with an offer of 25k more points. Ask what can be done as a “courtesy.” Escalate your call to a supervisor if you’re not getting anywhere. HUCA if they shuffle you off to their marketing department or say they’ll open a case for you.

You might get some “courtesy” points.

I looked into this, and the Amex Hilton Biz does not have referrals.
