I love credit cards so much!

It seems like a lot of people PC their CSR or CSP after a year or two. Would you want keep a CSR, CSP or CIP in order to utilize UR on the portal, or do most people transfer the points to travel partners? I want to earn UR points to use for WDW/US rooms and/or park tickets, so it seems like I need to keep a premium card in order to use the UR portal, right?
Yes. And if you want CSR 1.5x rate or CSP/CIP 1.25x rate you need to be holding that card at time of booking. In general I think most of us hold onto 1 premium card for these benefits and downgrade the rest of the cards.

thanks but I just don't know what I'm doing. I tried several times to post my plastiq link and now I am doing something wrong with my chase links. I am just banging my head on my keyboard lol
Ouch. Well if you have any specific q's throw them out here and people might be able to help :) I'm headed back to work but there are some other people here who might be able to help you out!

Been 12 months since I received my first Barclay Aviator bonus, closed it 6 months ago and opened another last month, made one charge and paid it and my annual fee as soon as it posted this weekend. My AA account is showing 50k more than yesterday the offer is still chugging along despite the fine print...

oh my goodness.....I think I figured it out. Can anyone please look at my CIP link and just tell me if I did it correctly.

You’d need a CSP, CSR, or CIP to transfer to Chase’s travel partners too. If you want to use UR points for WDW/US, then yes, it sounds like you need access to the UR portal or Chase’s Tours and Cruise Dept. and you’d need one of the premium UR cards.

After pricing flights from IAD-LAX all day to go to Disneyland and finding a good United flight, I've been contemplating how best to maximize our points/dollars. A one way United flight to LAX is 12.5k United miles (we'll be flying Alaska back most likely). I couldn't figure out how I wanted to make this work and thought maybe I'd just burn a little bit of URs to book it.
Well... it's fate. I just came home to a letter from United addressed to DH saying that he has 20,xxx United miles that will expire 8/31!!:teeth::cool1:

I don't even know where these points came from because I can't remember the last time DH flew United, but I'm so excited! So now I'm thinking I will book DH's flight with 12.5k of those points. My question for all of you is how I should handle booking my flight out there. I'll have 8k points left. Do I buy 4k more points? Is that worth it when the cash price is only $144? Do I transfer some points from Marriott or UR? Do I pay with CIP or Marriott Biz (vaguely recall seeing something about earning more Marriott points when booking United flights recently)?

TIA! I'm so excited that this trip will now become a reality!

what does the little red arrow mean on Reddit when you post something?

its called an upvote or downvote. Usually when u like something, you would upvote, which would push the post towards the top for people to see. you can downvote which will lower the views of it.

A Google search shows that AMEX has restrictions on AF refunds:

"If an Annual Membership fee applies, we will refund this fee if you notify us that you are voluntarily closing your Account within 30 days of the Closing Date of the billing statement on which that fee appears. For cancellations after this 30 day period, the Annual Membership fee is non-refundable."

Given that, your second plan of attack to see if they'll offer a retention bonus in June when your AF hits seems reasonable.

I buy VGC at Krogers with my BCP and they've always earned 6%. I'm not worried about RAT because I'm not doing this for a signup bonus, I've had this card for a long time - it used to be the Old Blue Cash and I didn't know back then how much bank I could've made! VGC can come in handy for places that won't take AMEX as payment (looking at you, Costco!). That is my backup method of reaching $6K in spend on BCP when I'm busy meeting MSRs on other cards. I don't MS these into MO like other people have reported, but if you're brave...

Amex will give you a prorated refund of your AF if you downgrade your card (but not if you cancel).

I am actually okay with getting it now too. Our IHG will more than likely be used for road trips with the girls. $49 fee for a room makes it worth it to me...plus the point sign up bonus which will get another couple nights. I guess we aren't too fancy!

For those that are upset @peel it maybe could be an option to contact Chase and tell them you don't want the card now. You haven't received it right? So haven't used it? It seems like I have read before that if you apply and get a card and then change your mind you can back out. If you did that then it would reset your 5/24 clock (at least in theory). I actually thought about doing that when I got the Hyatt Card last year. (But ultimately ended up keeping it and am glad that I did).
I’m just going to keep the card for the first year. The 80K will get me a couple of nights somewhere, and then once I get the annual certificate I’ll decide if I want to keep the card. And if they still give me the $50 statement credit after matching the higher bonus, even better.

I would start with how much is it to buy the miles you need and go from there. I've bought miles before when I was close and it was much cheaper than the flight. I didn't have transfer partner options at the time.

I would also consider that his 8k miles won't expire since you'd use some but if you buy a ticket and he's the only one with miles I would redeem thr miles for you and buy his so he earns the 2k+ miles for that flight.

The thing that gets me about the IHG change Is they clearly had the change planned yet the old terms were still on the application page. I applied and was approved Friday evening. If people are receiving the letters today, then they were likely in the mail already at that point. I know they can change the terms at anytime, but in that case, they should have changed the application page or temporarily closed the card to new applications until they announced the change. Sneaky and underhanded, Chase!

Side question: how are people wording their secure messages to Chase requesting to be matched to the 80,000 offer? I can’t truthfully say I saw the offer, because I didn’t. I tried multiple times to pull it up, to no avail.

Thanks for the response! So how exactly would he earn the 2k? Do you mean just purchase his ticket outright in cash?

It looks like it would be $10 more than the cash price of the tickets to buy the rest of the points I need...

So no dumb questions...but I need a true confession I am so dumb sometimes moment.

DH has a fraud alert on his card from when they hacked all his information last May. Basically the note is on his credit report and days of automatic approval is done and the card company has to call his cell and verify identity before card approval. Not a huge deal and makes us feel better which is why I keep renewing the alert. (I offer this as background as to why I was SO STUPID on Saturday). Basically to get him a new card we both have to be together and in a position to talk to the bank lending department and fraud section. During the week with both of us at work it is too hard and at nights it is too crazy so weekends the best. This Saturday he was ironically enough working at his business but home so I decided it was a perfect time to submit the CIC application. I even brought my ipad down to him to make sure entering business categories correctly. My duh moment...just as I hit submit I realized I had put my SS# instead of his on the application. Ended up having to call/explain/ huge mess.

Not quite ready to get back to it I let it go this weekend and decided to just apply again now while I am work and he just got home. Put his phone number down and have sufficiently coached him what to say/answer if they call. Fill out the application and hit submit. Nothing. Like it didn't go through. Nothing red popping up just a quick submitting and then the application form. Any ideas?

Apparently the CIC and us is not meant to be...

I just said that I had seen the 80k offer but had not been able to get it to go through (all true) and asked if they would match it. They said yes if I met the $2000 instead of $1000 minimum spend.

I just received my SPG card! Is there any reason to keep my personal and business account on separate logins, like I do with my Chase cards?

Off to figure out what I'm going to spend 7k on in the next 11 weeks....:ssst:
