Well, crud! My next anniversary night posts on 5/8.:scared: We were planning to use them for the Venetian or Palazzo this year.
I almost was going to say something about those with anniv. dates just after 5/1 in my earlier post and then I was like...that's just throwing salt in the wounds... That REALLY stinks...That's what's so stupid about this change...they should've given 12 month notice IMO.

What does the fine print say? Are you technically eligible out of curiosity?

I seem to be...This is all the info. The only thing that might apply to me is that I downgraded a little after one year. This was originally a no-fee card that I upgraded to the fee one when I was offered 100k to do so, that was a little over a year ago.
There is no annual fee for Additional Hilton Honors Ascend Cards.

You will receive a new Card Member Agreement and other account terms that provide additional details about the benefits and services associated with your new Card.

OFFER TERMS

You can earn 75,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $2,000 (the "Threshold Amount") on eligible purchases on your Card in your first 3 months of Card Membership starting from the date your account is approved. Eligible purchases to meet the Threshold Amount of this offer include those made by both the Basic and Additional Card Members on the Card Account. Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases to meet the Threshold Amount of this offer do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchase of travelers checks, purchase or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or other cash equivalents. Hilton Honors Bonus Points will be credited to your Hilton Honors account 6 – 8 weeks after the Threshold Amount has been reached. Your Card account must not be canceled or past due at the time of fulfillment of any offers. Additional Card Members are not eligible to receive this offer. Bonus Points do not count toward elite tier qualification; for more information, visit HiltonHonors.com/terms.

Purchases may fall outside of the 3 month period in some cases, such as a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction. (For example, if you buy goods online, the purchase date may be the date the goods are shipped). Hilton Honors Bonus Points will be credited to your Hilton Honors account 6 – 8 weeks after the Threshold Amount has been reached.

If we in our sole discretion determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with the welcome bonus offer in any way or that you intend to do so (for example, if you applied for one or more cards to obtain a welcome bonus offer (s) that we did not intend for you; if you cancel or downgrade your account within 12 months after acquiring it; or if you cancel or return purchases you made to meet the Threshold Amount), we may not credit Hilton Honors Bonus Points to your account. We may also cancel this Card account and other Card accounts you may have with us.

American Express reserves the right to modify or revoke offer at any time.

Yeah, not cool, Chase/IHG! I need to check when dh's night posts. I know it's around the same time, but maybe it'll get in under the wire.

I think I would make a big stink with Chase and/or IHG if I were in your position.

I probably should try...I just hate talking to people on the phone, let alone in a confrontational manner.:crazy2: But maybe I'll try. Do you think there's any chance a SM would accomplish anything?

On the bright side, dh's free night just posted, so we do have that one for this year.

Regarding the IHG card - I just got the letter from Chase out of my mailbox and after rereading I started to focus on the statement: Coming soon! Be on the lookout for an exciting offer to upgrade to our new IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.

Has anyone heard what the benefits will be with this card? Other than the opportunity to pay a higher annual fee? Maybe an unrestricted free night?

DH, DS and I, all have Chase envelopes waiting in the mailbox. I bet this is what ours are too.
Our free nights don't kick in until September, so I guess I have awhile to decide if I want to cancel or not.

I have a question for all the Southwest pros. Today my annual hit and I have the premier card. when will those points hit my account, and when should I call chase for a retention off.

This is a great point. AND we've recently discussed how having multiple freedom's is awesome - the easiest way to get multiple freedoms is to apply for one, then downgrade a CSP, CSR later. In 2 player mode you can actually end up with a CFU and 6 Freedoms pretty easily:
P1: CF, CFU (keep as CFU), CSP (downgrade to CF), CSR (keep as CSR)
P2: CF, CFU (PC to CF), CSP (downgrade to CF), CSR (downgrade to CF)
Boom! 6 Freedoms, a CSR and a CFU, haha!

That is what I figure - if I wind up not using the CFU as planned I downgrade and have two CFs.

Mine showed up about a week later.

My points posted to SWRR in about 7days. At that point I called, but I was not looking for retention; I just cancelled my card and got the refund.

When your next statement closes you should see 6,000 points on there. (You can see when your statement closes on the Chase website). Those 6,000 points should transfer to your SW RR account within 2-4 days. I would begin calling now to see if they will waive the annual fee, If they say no, I'd HUCA at least once a week for the next 3 weeks before I conceded and cancel. Obviously you want to make sure the 6k are safe in your SW RR account before you cancel too :)

Ugh. I guess I'm glad I'm in a holding pattern then. I just finished telling DH about the card and how you used it (we left the DC area about 6 years ago and he worked downtown so is familiar with the hotel), he walked away and the next thing I read was this post.

Keep in mind that the "anniv points" are tied to a statement closing and not the AF which will post on the 1st of a month. While your answers/advice technically isn't wrong in your instance it may not hold true for everybody, lol :). On one of my cards I receive my anniv. points BEFORE the AF posts and on the other the anniv. points post 3 weeks after the AF hits (just due to when my statements close in relation to my actually anniv. date) :D

I am not upset that I got DH the IHG card. We probably wouldn't stay at many hotels above 40k points, since my goal is to use these nights for when we need overnight stays for driving trips (visiting family, mostly). We love Holiday Inn Express for these types of nights because of the free breakfast. So $49 per night is still a great savings on a $150 room.

I am actually okay with getting it now too. Our IHG will more than likely be used for road trips with the girls. $49 fee for a room makes it worth it to me...plus the point sign up bonus which will get another couple nights. I guess we aren't too fancy!

For those that are upset @peel it maybe could be an option to contact Chase and tell them you don't want the card now. You haven't received it right? So haven't used it? It seems like I have read before that if you apply and get a card and then change your mind you can back out. If you did that then it would reset your 5/24 clock (at least in theory). I actually thought about doing that when I got the Hyatt Card last year. (But ultimately ended up keeping it and am glad that I did).
