I love credit cards so much!

So what happens if you wait?

Amex has a once per card per lifetime rule for welcome bonuses. Chase generally lets you get the bonus again in 24 months.

You got the Marriott Biz in February 2018 (did you ever get the Marriott Premier/Plus?), so you could possibly get a bonus on that card again as early as March 2020. If you do, you’re locked out of the SPG Lux for another 24 months. If you even qualify for the Marriott Premier Plus (under 5/24 and aren’t disqualified under the new rules), and you get that bonus, you’re also locked out of the SPG Lux for another 24 months. This puts the SPG Lux (or whatever it’ll be called then) out again to 2022.

If you decide to wait on the SPG Lux, under the new rules in effect on 8/26, your Marriott Biz bonus means you won’t qualify for the SPG Lux again until at earliest March 2020. By then, you have to pick, Chase or Amex? If you get the SPG Lux in or about March 2020, getting the SPG Lux bonus means you’re disqualified from getting the Marriott Premier Plus or Marriott Biz for 24 months. This pushes the Chase cards out til 2022 when you could’ve possibly gotten the bonuses again in 2020.

Basically, after 8/26, you’re almost always going to have to choose Chase or Amex. Amex is a one shot deal. Chase is on a 24 month cycle.

So, right now, you can take the SPG Lux 100k offer, as crappy as it is, but also take that card off the table and out of consideration. Then going forward, you can just focus on the Chase Marriott cards and (1) whether it’s been 24 months since you earned a disqualifying bonus, and (2) are you under 5/24, since Chase said they’d be moving all their cards under the 5/24 rule at some point.

Hope that made sense.

As always, you've articulated and made more sense of most of what was going through my head when I typed my post earlier. This is exactly what made me lean towards just getting it now, burn, and see what the churning landscape looks like down the road as oppose to pegging this on uncertainty. The longer I wait on the Lux, the further I push the reset clock, in addition to the fact that again, Marriott is making it more and more difficult to churn their line of cards post 8/26. As you said, you have to choose Amex or Chase, but if I round out Amex now, I can just focus on Chase IF I want to remain attach to the brand long-term. At the moment, my sentiment towards them is :headache:.

Did you ever get this worked out? And did I miss your follow-up somewhere in the past 200+ pages? :magnify:

Just to share a dp - I loaded a fixed value $200 USB MCGC onto my MasterPass account today and that went fine. Maybe variable load is treated differently than fixed value cards?

I did have to go incognito mode when I logged into Plastiq to avoid the Capital One MasterPass default, but was able to spend most of the $200 down.

My fixed rate MCGCs from Staples last time also went through fine, but perhaps you may have found the 'issue'? I plan to try a variable load later tonight (if I remember, since I have two apps (Lux and CIP) to do tonight ) or sometimes tomorrow. Will report back.

Also, I noticed there was a link that you could click without using incognito to bypass the CapOne MasterPass Default. It's towards the bottom of the main prompts and read "change wallet", I think. Had "wallet" in the link.

I read about that. How do I join? I don't see where I can send a message? It might be because I don't have many posts?

@SouthFayetteFan can add you if you PM him. I do think you need a certain number of posts on here before you can message. Not sure what that number is.

Edit: I see @SouthFayetteFan already took care of you with this request. Ignore me. :-)

I guess I feel like I might as well sit on it a week or so, if I get SPG Lux I'd just want it before we leave on Sept 13th. It'll be interesting to see if people have luck getting it expedited.

It's a 3 day delivery regular, but calypso says she's getting it overnighted.

:thumbsup2………………:teleport:………:yay:.......:cool1:............pixiedust:
1 night.... 2 night.... 3 night.... 4 night... 5 nights Ah ah Ahhhh!

Thank you!

ust to add a DP, this will make my 5th Amex credit card. I also have two Amex charge cards in addition to the 5 Amex credit cards. Some time ago I'd read 4 was the max on credit cards with Amex. Then there were DPs suggesting 4/5 and I've seen more recent DPs suggesting a possibility for a 6th one to get approved. I will likely test that theory down the road

I can add another DP - oldest daughter had 6 credit Amex's until this morning when she applied for the Lux. She had 2 spg's, 2 Hilton's, Amex Everyday, 1 Delta. So she was not instantly approved and called in when we were applying about 7ish this morning. First rep blew her off. Second call, different number, was told to drop 2 cards and she gave up a Hilton and the Delta (which she had since April 2018) and was approved while on with this rep and they gave her the Delta's credit limit.

Awww snap. You’re just one shy of completing the Starriott Gauntlet! Jk jk!

Can't get the Ritz - and I was right there applying for a Freedom while daughter got the Ritz back in July. Daughter has the Starriott Gauntlet Big 6. Myself just a meager 5.

Since we are player one and two on some vacations, this gives us combined 3 of the 50K nights. And if nothing else for me this can be a beach night in Maryland as those nights are I think 45K this year - I'll have to double check that one. And, for both of us NYC is just up the road a bit a little over 3 hours Acela on Amtrak.

And - the Lux is 15 nights so Platinum Elite for me out of all this and I haven't paid cash for a single night this year. The terms said its a 15 night card now. Hopefully I'm not wrong cause free breakfast would be nice.

What I’ve used my UR points on so far is a Christmas trip to Orlando December 19-24 to visit my son who lives there no parks this trip..we booked a 2 bedroom villa at Wyndham Disney Bonnet Creek for 87,496URs

I didn't know you could book the Wyndham Disney Bonnet Creek! We *might* have enough UR for a cabin at Fort Wilderness which would be our first choice, but I have been trying to convince myself that an off-site two bedroom would be a much better use of points. Even though the Wyndham is "off-site" it's still in the Disney Bubble.

I did some quick looking around, and do you know the difference between all of the 2-bedroom point values?

After much deliberating on the SPG cards this morning - have decided to hold fire in preparation for DW's CSR/CSP DD at the end of next month. If nothing else, will give me an excuse to burn through some of my gift card stash.

Coming on here everyday and seeing everyone getting new cards sure tests the willpower - but on this occasion, I will resist.....yes, really.........(but, 100k Starriott pts!).....oh, go on then.........NO!!! MUST NOT APPLY. Final Answer! :o

Some of the comments on that Marriott r/churning post I shared are quite comical. Apparently the new SPG/Marriott program is just garbage. I don't know what people want here...
When it comes to the chains churners talk about, there's basically: Wyndham, Choice, Marriott, IHG, Hilton & Hyatt.

Of those, ONLY Marriott and Hilton have multiple cards that offer tons of opportunities to earn points. Of course Hyatt, IHG and Marriott can be obtained through UR transfers as well.

At the end of the day, we have to accept that these programs aren't designed for us. They're designed for actual travelers...the people who are on the road 40+ weeks a year. We exploit signups, loopholes, card programs, etc. to gain status and free stuff. I love what we do, but I don't begin to actually believe that I'm a good and loyal Marriott customer. I may have 1.4million points with them...but that doesn't make me a good customer, haha. Ok, I'll end my rant about "Churner Privilege" LOL. I just can't believe the reactions some people have to this stuff when we are literally being handed free travel for just buying stuff we would've purchased anyways!!

Ditto. Lux 100k combined with 60k redemptions at dream properties right now is very hard to resist but the timing for me is absolutely not right. The FOMO is strong but not having any Chase Marriott cards it is definitely not the right call for me to apply either :charac2:
