I love credit cards so much!

I didn't see other links yet on DISchurners so if you have an SPG personal you can refer to the LUX! Same as public offer. Go to your SPG personal referral link, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see an offer for the SPG LUX!

(And if you have the personal SPG you can try for a self refer using this method, it's been working on MR cards imho worth a shot :) )

Wow that's awesome...I assume then you could SELF refer maybe?? I don't have an SPG personal but that's cool!

This is actually an issue we're dealing with on r/churningreferrals with AMEX links...

If you go back to the link that has your name in it (Refer.Amex.Us) it will work...it's strange but try it...

Thanks for sharing! I’ll try a self-referral later today!

His 3/24 is:
4/17 - Barclay Arrival + (closed)
1/18 - SW Plus (and Business but that doesn't count)
7/18 - Barclay Arrival + (Tried again and was approved)

His CSR was PC's to a Freedom. He has had the SPG Cards but not Marriott so that is a possibility. Hyatt is a Maybe. Probably not United. He does have another card dropping off in April.

For sure need to keep a spot for the CSR/CSP. I will also be able to double dip beginning of next year. Both kids will be in college next fall so would be much easier to do those at that time when paying tuition.

Arrghhh... why does this need to be so difficult. So many rules!!
Yeah - it's EASY when you're 0/24...it's EASY when you're OVER 5/24... But when you're in the middle, it feels like every decision is so important.

That PRG card is a decent card. The 50,000 point offer is fairly easy to come by, so for some reason I just struggle to say it's a "good" idea... I'm just as indecisive as you on this one and it's not even my cards hahaha.

Unfortunately, his tuition is about $25,000 a semester, and I definitely don't have a credit limit near high enough to cover that :rotfl:. But the Plastiq tip is a really good one! I'll look into doing that for my rent to get me to the minimum spend.
You'd be surprised at the kind of credit limits some of these issuers will give you ;) Also you can combine your Chase limits. My chase cards I don't use have a $1,000 or $500 limit, and the ones I use have $20k-30k+ limits because I shifted the credit limit to those cards.

Barclays called last night basically asking if I applied for the Arrival +. and a few basic questions. Was approved and card should be here tomorrow or Monday. Going to use that on Plastiq for Mortgage since it is a MC. So, that will knock off spend on that.

Still waiting on mine an DH's Barclay AAdvantage cards (had to send in documentation). Only need to buy 1 thing so that is easy.

DH is now 3/24 (CSR/Freedom just went off his list). I went to Cardmatch and pulled up the AMEX Gold for 50,000 MR points for 1,000 spend. Is that a good deal. Seems reasonable but wanted to check with everyone before I jumped on it. Will put him at 4/24.

Congratulations!

If you can send your mortgage payments in $250 chunks, Plastiq’s no fee Masterpass promo runs through the end of September.

Oh Zack...just do you what you do best...

@amalone1013...poor Zack. We all know you just married him for his good looks and his social security number (gotta lock up that Player 2) :P HAHA!

I just use “Chase points” and “Amex points” with my wife. Lol

That's EXACTLY what I do with DH, and he still glosses over a little, but he is making a very good effort to use the correct credit cards, so I'll cut him some slack. He REALLY doesn't want to be stuck in coach for the 15+ hour Dubai to SF leg of our return Africa flights, lol...

Ha! I make more too. I think I'll start referring to him as my trophy husband.

It feels less illegal that way...

I usually do too, though I'm occasionally explain that those arent the real names...

If the school's credit card fee is low enough, you can pay tuition weekly while paying off your credit card balance weekly. Have any student loans, 529 plan distributions, etc., directed to your checking account instead of being paid directly to the school, if possible.

Here is a well-worded post on r/churning about the NEW Marriott program:
https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/99pgrr/the_new_marriott_points_program/

For any of us that are well versed in SPG and Marriott historically, you probably won't learn much here. For anybody who doesn't know a lot about Marriott points and is wondering if they should get in on the fun, it could be super helpful.

The author is LumpyLump76 from r/churning who has been around this game longer than I have and is VERY knowledgeable.

Hmmm, one thing I didn't exactly consider is the lifetime bonus restriction...though, not sure how much better (doubt the AF gets waived, maybe 150K?), relatively speaking, the offer could get down the road such that it would be worth the trade-off of waiting two years. For my own situation, if I plan to be done with Marriott, generally speaking (i.e. exhausting most of my points on trips in the next year or two), do I need/want to replenish my stash in two years and have it take longer to rebuild to a point where it's a worthwhile redemption? Or just take the 100K down and earn and burn? With Marriott developing a game plan to becoming more restrictive on bonuses, this makes me lean more towards taking it now, burn, move on, and see how the churning landscape evolves down the road.

This is my thought, get it now, earn and burn in the next year and then move on to a different hotel brand, unless things change.

So what happens if you wait?

Amex has a once per card per lifetime rule for welcome bonuses. Chase generally lets you get the bonus again in 24 months.

You got the Marriott Biz in February 2018 (did you ever get the Marriott Premier/Plus?), so you could possibly get a bonus on that card again as early as March 2020. If you do, you’re locked out of the SPG Lux for another 24 months. If you even qualify for the Marriott Premier Plus (under 5/24 and aren’t disqualified under the new rules), and you get that bonus, you’re also locked out of the SPG Lux for another 24 months. This puts the SPG Lux (or whatever it’ll be called then) out again to 2022.

If you decide to wait on the SPG Lux, under the new rules in effect on 8/26, your Marriott Biz bonus means you won’t qualify for the SPG Lux again until at earliest March 2020. By then, you have to pick, Chase or Amex? If you get the SPG Lux in or about March 2020, getting the SPG Lux bonus means you’re disqualified from getting the Marriott Premier Plus or Marriott Biz for 24 months. This pushes the Chase cards out til 2022 when you could’ve possibly gotten the bonuses again in 2020.

Basically, after 8/26, you’re almost always going to have to choose Chase or Amex. Amex is a one shot deal. Chase is on a 24 month cycle.

So, right now, you can take the SPG Lux 100k offer, as crappy as it is, but also take that card off the table and out of consideration. Then going forward, you can just focus on the Chase Marriott cards and (1) whether it’s been 24 months since you earned a disqualifying bonus, and (2) are you under 5/24, since Chase said they’d be moving all their cards under the 5/24 rule at some point.

Hope that made sense.

Thanks for posting this...Didn’t know anything about SPG and Marriott since I’m concentrating on Chase UR cards right now

Picked up a $500 US Bank MCGC this morning, registered the MCGC, created a Masterpass wallet with the MCGC, linked Masterpass to Plastiq, set up a $250 payment to student loan servicer -- no fee, but then I got this error:

Please Call Your Card Issuer
We're sorry your card issuer has declined your payment to MOHELA.

Please select another payment method or contact your card issuer by phone and see why they have blocked this payment.

Error Code: 2025 Payment ID: *******

Need to poke around to see what's wrong. Don't want to call the bank.

Just following up.

I found this: http://milenomics.com/2018/06/how-are-things-going-on-that-plastiq-masterpass-promo/

Which suggested: If you get the message below, try removing then re-adding the MCGC to Masterpass then re-adding it to Plastiq.

I did this, but I'm still getting the error.

I haven't seen anything about US Bank-issued MCGCs being blocked, but my head is trying to rule things out right now. If I can't liquidate this card through Plastiq's Masterpass promo, I still have some open card slots on Venmo. But it would suck because these $500 MCGCs are so easy to get from grocery stores without worrying about Level 3 data to Amex.

As an aside, I added the MCGC directly into Plastiq, and it looks like Plastiq treats the MCGC as a credit card and charges a 2.5% fee.

Did you ever get this worked out? And did I miss your follow-up somewhere in the past 200+ pages? :magnify:

Just to share a dp - I loaded a fixed value $200 USB MCGC onto my MasterPass account today and that went fine. Maybe variable load is treated differently than fixed value cards?

I did have to go incognito mode when I logged into Plastiq to avoid the Capital One MasterPass default, but was able to spend most of the $200 down.

Looks like the personal platinum is at 70000 miles and 10000 Medallion Qualification Miles with a $3000 spend in 3 months. That does carry a $195 fee. I think that's a pretty good offer for that card, but I know someone else probably knows better if it can go higher.

@Missyson offers for Delta cards are pretty much as high as they get right now miles wise. In the past there has been a statement credit (only difference with past increased offers). The Platinum Delta does have the $195 fee but for me it is still a keeper card as with the card anniversary you get a companion certificate (basically buy a ticket for travel in continental US get one free). You have until November for the current sign up bonuses.

Might have spoken too soon. Both offers showed and I swear worked fine when I posted them - and I went to check one minute later and now the links are showing as not available? I hope this is a glitch, maybe it's a cookie problem or something for me because I just saw someone mention the LUX referral on Reddit as well
Not showing for me either.

No, I’ll try again next week or the first week of September when I have some MCGCs and payments to make. I bought 3x of the $100 MCGCs from the Staples no fee deal the other day and they’ve shipped so I should have some in hand again soon. I couldn’t figure it out with my $500 MCGC so I ended up liquidating it via Venmo. I don’t like holding onto MCGCs for very long. @SBWB48 got it to work. Glad it worked for you too! I’ve seen the tip about going incognito and will try that next time.
